Jin Ling expressed his confusion over Lan Sizhui's strange stance regarding Wei Wuxian, asserting that everyone knew what Wei Wuxian had done, particularly the ambush at Qiongqi Road and the bloodbath at Nevernight, which resulted in many cultivators dying by Wen Ning's hand and the Stygian Tiger Amulet. Jin Ling maintained that Wei Wuxian instigated Wen Ning to kill his father and mother, a grudge he would never forget, and questioned how anyone could justify such actions.

Lan Sizhui calmly suggested that one should not pass judgment without understanding the full context of events. Other disciples interjected, advising them to stop arguing, especially since they had just survived Coffin Town and were still dining. They also worried about attracting Hanguang Jun's attention. Lan Sizhui apologized for his thoughtless words. As they spoke, Lan Wangji descended the stairs and, to everyone's astonishment, uncharacteristically ordered a pot of liquor, causing the disciples to quickly disperse.

Meanwhile, in his room, Wei Wuxian opened his window, only to find Wen Ning hanging outside, disheveled and rather startling. Wen Ning's attempt to speak was cut short when Lan Wangji entered with the liquor. Wen Ning hastily dropped from the rooftop, landing heavily before scurrying away. Wei Wuxian sat down, a mix of amusement and surprise on his face as he watched Lan Wangji.

He then mused that both Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng had recognized his true identity and curiously asked Lan Wangji how he had been found out. Lan Wangji retorted, questioning Wei Wuxian’s poor memory. He then shifted the conversation to serious matters, proposing that Wei Wuxian accompany him to Jinlintai for the upcoming Cultivation Conference.

Lan Wangji explained that Nie Mingjue's head was still missing, and he believed Jin Guangyao had hidden it somewhere close to him; finding it in Jinlintai would confirm their suspicions. Wei Wuxian hesitated, but Lan Xichen arrived, affirming the importance of Wei Wuxian joining them and pledging that if evidence were found, he would deal with Jin Guangyao justly, without leniency. And so, Wei Wuxian, wearing a mask, journeyed to Jinlintai with the Lan brothers.

Jin Guangyao personally came out to greet them, his perpetual warm smile and courteous demeanor unchanged. He expressed surprise at Lan Wangji’s presence, remarking that he had never seen Hanguang Jun at a Cultivation Conference before, and subtly questioned Wei Wuxian’s identity by referring to him as an outsider. Jiang Cheng also made an appearance, and Jin Ling addressed him as "Uncle."

Jin Guangyao quickly interceded for Jin Ling, claiming the boy had been so afraid of punishment that he had lost his appetite and sleep. Wei Wuxian playfully suggested he was there for a free meal. Jin Guangyao gracefully waved off the jokes, assuring them of ample food. Whispers spread among other cultivators about Mo Xuanyu, some remarking that he had been "thrown out" yet was now allowed back in.

Wei Wuxian privately noted that everyone seemed to recognize Mo Xuanyu and informed Lan Wangji of his intention to play the fool if questioned. Lan Wangji simply told him to suit himself, as long as he didn’t provoke others. A banquet was held that evening in Pageant Hall, with the three-day Cultivation Conference officially set to begin the next day. During the banquet, Jin Guangyao arrived gracefully with his wife, Qin Su.

Amidst the conviviality, Nie Huaisang burst in, distraught and in tears, pleading with Jin Guangyao, whom he called "Third Brother," to help him with yet another problem and threatening suicide if denied. Jin Guangyao tried to console him, but Nie Huaisang insisted it was a new issue. Jin Guangyao quietly asked Qin Su to return inside before guiding Nie Huaisang away to talk privately.

Wei Wuxian observed the strange looks he received from the Jin clan members and slipped away to the backyard to uncover Mo Xuanyu’s past entanglements, asking Lan Wangji to cover for him. He was quickly surrounded by several Jin disciples, led by a young man named Jin Chan, who accused "Mo Xuanyu" of shamelessly pestering Lianfang Zun's wife.

To Wei Wuxian's surprise, Jin Ling stepped forward to shield him, pointing out that Mo Xuanyu was a guest of Hanguang Jun and could not be punished without his permission. As a fight broke out, Wei Wuxian subtly guided Jin Ling with verbal instructions, teaching him moves that allowed him to defeat Jin Chan and his group. Elated by his victory, Jin Ling boasted about his newfound skill.

Wei Wuxian claimed Lan Wangji had taught him the moves and encouraged Jin Ling to fight more while he was young, arguing that later in life, he would be forced to get along with people he wished he could fight. After the skirmish, Wei Wuxian gleefully informed a suspicious Jin Ling that he had "moved on" from Qin Su, explaining that she wasn't his type.

Sensing something was off about Wei Wuxian’s identity, Jin Ling decided not to press the issue, only asking him to leave to avoid any misunderstanding with Jin Guangyao. He then threatened to summon his spiritual dog, Fairy, counting down from three. Startled, Wei Wuxian quickly fled to Lan Wangji’s room. There, he conjured a small paper cut-out and injected his spiritual cognition into it.

The paper figure sprang to life, playfully climbing onto Lan Wangji's forehead and tugging at his forehead ribbon. Lan Wangji gently chided it not to play around, reminding it to be careful on its mission to investigate Jin Guangyao. The paper Wei Wuxian slipped out and journeyed to Jin Guangyao’s residence, the Fragrance Hall. It squeezed through a window and landed on a desk, attempting to retrieve a letter that was pinned down.

Before it could succeed, Qin Su entered the room. The paper figure darted into hiding, observing with surprise that her complexion was deathly pale, a stark contrast to her vibrant demeanor at the banquet. As Qin Su tremblingly picked up the letter, Jin Guangyao's voice suddenly came from behind her. She turned fearfully to see him watching her with his characteristic gentle smile, which now appeared terrifying.

Qin Su confessed that she had met someone who revealed some things and gave her the letter. Maintaining his smile, Jin Guangyao took the letter and read its contents. His smile gradually solidified into a grimace as he vehemently denied everything written, calling it baseless fabrication. In tears, Qin Su was appalled that he would still lie to her. A wave of nausea washed over her, and she retched uncontrollably.

Jin Guangyao calmly stated that they had shared many harmonious years, and everything could return to normal if she simply disregarded the matter, telling her it was all in her head. Her thoughts turned to their deceased son, A-Song, and she voiced a chilling new suspicion: that Jin Guangyao had killed him. Focused on identifying the informer, Jin Guangyao pressed Qin Su for the name.

She angrily tore free, declaring that she now saw his true colors—a heartless man who would kill his own child for power. Jin Guangyao's eyes blazed as he admitted that A-Song had to die, for if he had grown up, their secret would have been exposed. Enraged, Qin Su slapped him twice. Seeing her resolute refusal to reveal the informer, Jin Guangyao sealed her meridians, declaring her "sick and muddled."

He stated that he would send her away to "rest" and dragged her into a secret room, followed quietly by the paper Wei Wuxian. Inside the secret room, with Qin Su incapacitated, Jin Guangyao again pressed her for the informer's name. The paper Wei Wuxian inadvertently made a rustling sound. Jin Guangyao’s expression changed dramatically as he sensed an intruder. He concealed Qin Su and cautiously approached a covered, ominous-looking display. " Was that you looking at me just now?"

he whispered. " It's been so many years. Why won't you let me go, big brother?" He slowly lifted the talisman-covered curtain, revealing Nie Mingjue’s severed head. After Jin Guangyao stepped away, the paper Wei Wuxian flew closer, discovering not only the head but also blueprints for the Stygian Tiger Amulet. The paper figure then affixed itself to Nie Mingjue’s head. Back in his own room, Wei Wuxian, who had been resting, suddenly sat upright, his hands tensed as he began to experience Empathy, shocking Lan Wangji.
