Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning were in the market, attempting to sell turnips. Wen Ning, lacking enthusiasm, quietly peddled his wares, prompting Wei Wuxian to encourage him to be more passionate, noting that their turnips seemed unappetizing due to his subdued calls. As Wen Ning attempted to be louder, an impersonator of the Yiling Patriarch appeared, loudly hawking his "spiritual tools" and "talismans." Wei Wuxian subtly intervened by offering turnips as payment for one of the impersonator's compasses.

The impersonator, dismissing him for having no cash, boasted about his fake wares. Wei Wuxian then rendered the impersonator's talismans useless, causing them to crumple and ensuring no one would buy them. As the impersonator continued his futile cries, Wei Wuxian, strolling contentedly, suddenly froze, spotting Jiang Cheng. Stunned by the sight of Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian was quickly led away from the bustling market to a quiet residence.

Inside, he found his Senior Sister, Jiang Yanli, dressed in a beautiful red wedding gown and phoenix coronet, a joyous sight that momentarily captivated him. Jiang Yanli, with a radiant smile, explained that she was getting married soon and wanted to show him her wedding attire. Wei Wuxian, overjoyed, complimented her profusely. The three of them then sat around a table, just like old times.

Jiang Yanli had brought her famous lotus root and rib soup, serving generous portions to her two brothers. She then asked Wei Wuxian to bestow a courtesy name upon her unborn child. After some thought, Wei Wuxian suggested "Jin Rulan." Jiang Cheng grumbled about the name sounding too much like the Lan clan, but Wei Wuxian playfully defended his choice, highlighting the beauty of the "orchid" character.

Jiang Yanli intervened, revealing that it was Jiang Cheng who had suggested she ask Wei Wuxian for the name, before encouraging them to enjoy the soup. Wei Wuxian eagerly savored the soup, finding it utterly delicious. Jiang Yanli, ever kind, had also brought a small bowl for Wen Ning, who was waiting outside. Wen Ning was deeply touched by her consideration and carefully tasted a spoonful, expressing his desire to save the rest for Wen Yuan.

Inside, Jiang Cheng raised his bowl, playfully "toasting" the "Yiling Patriarch," causing Wei Wuxian to nearly choke on his soup and promptly tell Jiang Cheng to be quiet. Their banter continued as they discussed their past staged fight, with Wei Wuxian reminding Jiang Cheng that his own arm was in a sling for over a month, compared to Jiang Cheng's quick recovery, all to make their dramatic fallout appear convincing to outsiders and silence public criticism.

Jiang Cheng, still attempting to sway Wei Wuxian, asked about his future plans. Wei Wuxian, however, resignedly stated that he would continue living as he was, confident that people feared him too much to approach him, and that as long as they didn't actively cause trouble, they would be fine. Jiang Cheng vehemently disagreed, warning that trouble would find Wei Wuxian regardless.

Jiang Cheng then urged Wei Wuxian to reconsider his path, but Wei Wuxian countered that the people he was returning to in the Burial Mounds were also his family. As they prepared to leave, Jiang Yanli handed Wei Wuxian a pendant, explaining that she had found it in their father's study and believed it was meant for him, and quickly bid them farewell to avoid being seen.

Wen Ning, still carefully holding the bowl of soup, intended to bring it back for Wen Yuan, a decision Wei Wuxian approved, instructing him to hold it steady and not to tell Wen Qing about their meeting. Back at the Burial Mounds, Wei Wuxian had no appetite for dinner.

He confessed to the Wen remnants his disinterest in turnips and his sudden desire to grow lotus roots in the Burial Mounds, a notion met with skepticism due to the poor soil quality, yet he defiantly vowed to succeed. Later that evening, after the others had gone to rest, Wen Ning finally gave the carefully preserved lotus root and rib soup to Wen Yuan, who savored every spoonful. Wen Qing, witnessing this, became suspicious.

She confronted Wen Ning, who then confessed that Clan Leader Jiang and Lady Jiang had visited that day. Meanwhile, Wei Wuxian sat alone, holding the pendant Jiang Yanli had given him. He was lost in a bittersweet flood of memories of his time in Lotus Pier, deeply regretting that those days could never return.

His thoughts drifted to his own defiance, wondering if he could truly achieve anything, even growing lotus roots in the barren Burial Mounds, as he had promised. For a time, Wei Wuxian diligently tried to cultivate lotus roots, perplexed by his lack of success despite his background in Yunmeng. Eventually, a small sprout emerged, but to his dismay, the innocent Wen Yuan plucked it. Wei Wuxian's immediate anger frightened Wen Yuan, who burst into tears.

Wen Qing quickly comforted the child and advised him to tell Wei Wuxian that if he missed his sister, he should simply go visit her. Wen Yuan, in his childlike innocence, relayed this message to Wei Wuxian, even suggesting he could "fly like a bird" to his sister. Wei Wuxian's anger dissipated instantly, replaced by warmth and amusement, and he cheerfully played with Wen Yuan. Meanwhile, at Lanling, the Jin clan was busy preparing for Jin Zixuan's upcoming wedding.

Jin Guangyao meticulously oversaw the decorations, impressing both Jin Zixuan and Clan Leader Jin Guangshan with his competence. Jin Zixuan even urged his father to trust Jin Guangyao more, but Jin Guangshan remained wary of his illegitimate son, reaffirming his firm resolve that Jin Zixuan, and not Jin Guangyao, would inherit the position of Clan Leader. A year later, Wei Wuxian had successfully cultivated lotus roots in the Burial Mounds, to the delight of the Wen remnants.

As he and Wen Ning once again descended the mountain to sell turnips, they overheard conversations about joyous celebrations at Jinlin Tower. Wen Ning inquired, learning that five days prior, Jiang Yanli, now Mrs. Jin, had given birth to a son, Jin Ling, whose courtesy name was Rulan. The Jin clan was holding a seven-day banquet to celebrate. Wei Wuxian was overcome with joy, realizing he had become an uncle.

At Jinlin Tower, Jin Guangyao, who clearly doted on the infant Jin Ling, wished to hold him, but Clan Leader Jin Guangshan sharply refused, instructing the wet nurse that only she was permitted to hold the baby, displaying his ongoing distrust towards Jin Guangyao. Jin Guangyao, visibly disappointed, questioned his father's urgency. During the celebration, Lan Wangji boldly asserted that Wei Wuxian, as Jin Ling's elder, should be invited to the first-month celebration.

Clan Leader Jin Guangshan immediately challenged this, questioning the wisdom of inviting an enemy of the great clans. Jin Zixun then angrily interjected, reminding everyone of the massacre at Qiongqi Path. Despite this, Lan Xichen supported Lan Wangji, noting that Wei Wuxian had committed no misdeeds since establishing himself in the Burial Mounds. Undeterred, Jin Zixun expressed outrage at the suggestion of inviting Wei Wuxian, whom he labeled a "ruthless killer," and questioned Lan Wangji's relationship with him.

Lan Wangji simply replied, "To visit an old friend." Jin Zixuan then surprisingly agreed with the Lans, reasoning that despite Wei Wuxian's rebellion, he had been peaceful for a year, and since Jiang Yanli still cared deeply for him, this could be an opportunity for his return. Jin Guangshan considered this, acknowledging that if Wei Wuxian was truly repentant, it would resolve a major concern for the prominent clans.

He, however, voiced concerns about Wei Wuxian's association with the Wen remnants, the powerful Stygian Tiger Amulet, and the formidable Ghost General, Wen Ning. Jin Guangyao then presented a cunning proposal: write an invitation for Wei Wuxian to attend the full-month ceremony alone at Jinlin Tower. Once there, they would persuade him to surrender the Stygian Tiger Amulet and provide an explanation. If he agreed, they could announce his reintegration into the Yunmeng Jiang Sect.

If he refused, he would merely have to promise not to harm the innocent, and then could return to the Burial Mounds. Clan Leader Jin Guangshan found the plan viable and tasked Lan Wangji with delivering the invitation. As this decision was finalized, Jin Zixun suddenly appeared unwell, while Jin Guangyao's eyes glinted with a knowing light, hinting at his deeper machinations. Later, Jin Guangyao found the distressed Jin Zixun, asking if he held a personal grudge against Wei Wuxian. Jiang Yanli, meanwhile, joyfully informed her baby Jin Ling that his Uncle Xian would be coming to his full-month celebration.
