The Untamed Episode 20 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
Wang Lingjiao, already distraught, was disturbed by a piercing scream. Upon turning, she was horrified to see a pair of bloody eyeballs lying on the ground. Her own ear-splitting shriek awakened Wen Chao in the adjacent room, who was trying to drown his sorrows in drink. Annoyed, Wen Chao cursed and demanded silence from Wang Lingjiao. Suddenly, an eerie chill swept through the room, and the door creaked open. A woman’s figure, swaying unsettlingly, floated in.
Wen Chao's blood ran cold when he recognized the figure, bleeding from all seven orifices, as Wang Lingjiao herself. She begged him for help, stretching her rigid arms towards him. Terrified, Wen Chao futilely thrust his sword through her, but she seemed to feel no pain, merely pausing before continuing to crawl towards him. He completely broke down as Wang Lingjiao continued to convulse, stumbling around the room, repeatedly apologizing for having wronged and killed innocent people.
Finally, she used a porcelain shard to brutally disfigure her own face. Wei Wuxian, cloaked in black atop the roof, chillingly played a dark flute, emanating an ominous black mist that enveloped him and the instrument. With a final gesture, he cast a white silk sash over a beam, and Wang Lingjiao, without hesitation, put her neck into the noose, ending her torment. Wen Chao was left a gibbering wreck, kowtowing repeatedly, begging for his life.
Wen Zhuliu, arriving just then, quickly pulled him away to flee. Not long after, Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng led their forces into the Supervisory Office. They found all the Wen clan members dead, each by a different, gruesome method: some hanged, some burned, some drowned, some poisoned. Jiang Cheng observed that the mission seemed to have been completed by "something unknown." He also discovered Wang Lingjiao’s body, self-hanged in the room.
Overcome with grief and rage for his parents, Jiang Cheng lashed her corpse repeatedly with his purple lightning whip, Zidian, to avenge his family. Lan Wangji noticed that the talismans originally meant to ward off evil, posted throughout the Supervisory Office, had been altered. By adding just a few strokes, painted with human blood, their function had been reversed to "summon the evil." He described this as "unheard of" and a clear act of human design.
Jiang Cheng, though equally perplexed by who could possess such an ability, stated that it didn't matter who was responsible as long as their goal aligned with theirs: to bring down the Wen clan. In the dungeon, Jiang Cheng discovered Wen Qing. He inquired about her well-being and the whereabouts of Wen Ning.
When he learned Wen Ning had been taken to Qishan, he offered Wen Qing a chance to leave the Wen clan and seek refuge with him, citing that she had once saved his life. However, Wen Qing declined, explaining that she was still a member of the Wen clan with a brother and family to protect, and that he could not save them all. She stated that their mutual acts of salvation had made them even.
Before leaving, Jiang Cheng gave her a comb, telling her to come to him if she ever needed help again. Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng relentlessly pursued the fleeing Wen Chao and Wen Zhuliu. They noticed that someone else consistently outpaced them, eliminating many Wen clan remnants along the way. Lan Wangji remarked on the "strong wicked energy" of this unknown person, cautioning Jiang Cheng, who retorted whether anything could be more wicked than the Wen clan.
Jiang Cheng maintained that as long as their objectives were aligned, they were not enemies. They soon tracked Wen Chao and Wen Zhuliu to a Yunmeng courier station. Observing from the rooftop, they saw Wen Zhuliu helping a cloaked Wen Chao to a table. Wen Chao was trembling, even afraid to light candles, eager only to escape. Wen Zhuliu stopped his frantic movements, intending to apply medicine.
Wen Chao cautiously removed his cloak, revealing a scarred, bald head covered in dense, fish-scale-like wounds. As Wen Zhuliu applied the medicine, Wen Chao cried out in agony but desperately tried not to shed tears, fearing they would infect his wounds. His dry, choked sobs were terrifying. Wen Chao frantically asked when they would reach his father, only to be told it would still take two more days. Enraged, he cursed Wen Zhuliu as useless.
As Wen Zhuliu stood up, Wen Chao panicked, fearing abandonment. However, Wen Zhuliu merely looked towards the door and softly declared, "No need." At that exact moment, the door silently opened, and slow, deliberate footsteps echoed through the room. Wei Wuxian, a sinister smile playing on his lips, strode in, clutching his black flute. Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng, still perched on the roof, watched in stunned surprise.
Wei Wuxian sneered, asking if Wen Chao truly believed Wen Zhuliu could still save his wretched life. Wen Zhuliu, however, remained resolute, blocking Wen Chao. He declared his unwavering loyalty, stating he must repay the Wen clan's kindness. Wei Wuxian lowered his voice, calling it a "joke" and demanding why others should pay the price for Wen Zhuliu's gratitude. Without further words, Wei Wuxian played his black flute, summoning a swirl of black mist and a red-clad female ghost.
With long, crimson nails, she ripped off Wen Chao's cloak. Wen Chao shrieked and fainted on the spot. Wen Zhuliu moved to protect him, engaging the ghost in a fierce, albeit one-sided, battle. Unable to bear the grotesque spectacle any longer, Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng burst into the room from the rooftop. Wei Wuxian was momentarily startled. Jiang Cheng, using Zidian like a rope, lassoed Wen Zhuliu’s neck, hoisting him into the air.
Wen Zhuliu thrashed desperately, his eyes bulging, before finally succumbing to a painful death. Jiang Cheng felt a sense of satisfaction as Wen Zhuliu drew his last breath. After Wen Zhuliu’s demise, Jiang Cheng eagerly embraced Wei Wuxian, demanding to know where he had been for the past three months, expressing how worried he had been. Wei Wuxian, feigning nonchalance, denied being thrown into the Burial Mounds and tried to lightly dismiss the topic.
However, a deepening concern clouded Lan Wangji's eyes, his gaze becoming sharper. He had deduced that Wei Wuxian was the one who had altered the Wen clan’s talismans and used strange methods to kill the Wen disciples. Lan Wangji confronted Wei Wuxian, asking why he had abandoned swordsmanship for wicked tricks. Wei Wuxian, unable to reveal the loss of his golden core, defensively argued with Lan Wangji, coldly telling him to mind his own business.
Just then, Wen Chao stirred, regaining consciousness. Seeing Wen Zhuliu dead, he began to kowtow frantically to Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng, begging for his life. Wei Wuxian looked towards Lan Wangji and stated that it was a domestic affair of the Yunmeng Jiang clan and that Lan Wangji should not interfere. Lan Wangji, with a crestfallen expression, reluctantly left. Finally, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng killed Wen Chao, avenging the deaths of Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan.
Wei Wuxian knelt before their memorial tablets, murmuring that he had fulfilled his promise to protect Jiang Cheng and that their great vendetta had been avenged. Now, Wei Wuxian could finally see his Senior Sister. He followed Jiang Cheng to Qinghe, where he saw Jiang Yanli's familiar back as she tended to the wounded. Wei Wuxian softly called out "Senior Sister," and Jiang Yanli turned, her face lighting up with surprise. Wei Wuxian silently shed tears, grateful for their reunion after so long.
