The Untamed Episode 16 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
As the small boat drifted, the purple lightning binding Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng finally released its hold. They immediately tore down the boat's planks, using them as makeshift paddles, and desperately rowed back towards Lotus Cove. For Jiang Yanli's safety, they insisted she remain behind to wait. Meanwhile, the once serene Lotus Cove was engulfed in a bloodbath. Jiang clan disciples were mercilessly slaughtered. Yu Ziyuan fought fiercely but sustained grave injuries.
Just then, Jiang Fengmian arrived with his followers and rushed to her aid. However, they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of Wen clan soldiers. Jiang Fengmian fell, a sword piercing his chest. Yu Ziyuan, refusing to live on, let out a heart-wrenching laugh, then resolutely plunged a dagger into her own heart. In her final moments, she struggled to grasp her husband's hand, and they died together.
Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian arrived shortly after, but dared not act rashly. They crouched on the rooftop, observing the horrific scene below, as bodies were dragged out of the main hall. They began to fear for Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan. Any lingering hope shattered when they saw the lifeless bodies of Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan lying in the main hall, their hands clasped in death.
Inside, Wang Lingjiao, nestled coquettishly in Wen Chao's arms, venomously disparaged Yu Ziyuan. Wen Chao, oblivious to the blood-stained hall, focused only on comforting Wang Lingjiao. She recounted her terror of almost not seeing him again, while he reassured her, praising Wen Zhuliu for protecting her. Wang Lingjiao then cruelly asserted that Yu Ziyuan deserved her fate, claiming she forced Jiang Fengmian to marry her despite his dislike, living for decades as a scorned woman mocked by all.
Wen Chao even remarked on Yu Ziyuan's beauty, questioning why Jiang Fengmian wouldn't like her. Wang Lingjiao dismissed this, criticizing Yu Ziyuan's lack of manners and her habit of whipping others, concluding that Jiang Fengmian's marriage to her was "rotten luck." Wen Chao agreed, declaring that women should be tender, lovely, and obedient like his "Jiaojiao," loving him with their whole heart. Wang Lingjiao then confessed she wanted to stab Yu Ziyuan more times, but Wen Zhuliu stopped her.
She scoffed at Wen Zhuliu's disposition and hypocrisy for claiming "one can be killed but not humiliated" after committing such a massacre. Wen Chao, asserting his dominion, ordered that "Lotus Cove" be renamed "Yunmeng Supervisory Office" and all its nine-petal lotus symbols be replaced with the Wen clan's sun emblem. Upon witnessing this desecration and hearing their parents' names scorned, Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian were filled with rage, their fists clenched and tears streaming down their faces.
Overcome with grief, Jiang Cheng tumbled from the roof and bolted into the wilderness, with Wei Wuxian in close pursuit. After running for a long distance, Jiang Cheng suddenly stopped, realizing he needed to return to retrieve his parents' bodies and seek revenge. Wei Wuxian desperately restrained him, knowing it would be suicide. Jiang Cheng roared, choking Wei Wuxian, blaming him for defending Lan Wangji and Jin Zixuan, which he claimed led to the Wen clan targeting and destroying Yunmeng.
Wei Wuxian did not resist, letting Jiang Cheng vent his fury. Finally, Jiang Cheng's strength failed him, and he sank to the ground in despair, lamenting the loss of his parents, his martial siblings, and Lotus Cove, acknowledging that nothing could ever be the same. Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian remained in the wilderness through the night.
As dawn broke, Wei Wuxian urged Jiang Cheng to rise, reminding him that Jiang Yanli was still waiting for them, unaware of the tragedy. They walked together until they found Jiang Yanli in the forest, who had been anxiously waiting. Seeing their tear-swollen eyes and profound sorrow, she instinctively knew something terrible had happened. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the worst.
But when Wei Wuxian finally delivered the devastating news, Jiang Yanli collapsed, weeping uncontrollably, unable to accept the truth. A heavy rain poured down that day, washing the world clean, but it could not wash away the bloodstains on Lotus Cove, nor the cloud of sorrow that engulfed Wei Wuxian and his siblings. Overwhelmed by grief and soaked by the rain, Jiang Yanli soon developed a high fever.
Wei Wuxian settled her and the shell-shocked Jiang Cheng, then ventured out to buy medicine. He found the streets swarming with Wen clan soldiers conducting searches. Wei Wuxian stayed alert, but the soldiers apprehended a suspect on the other side of the market, allowing Wei Wuxian to escape detection. He rushed back to the inn, only to find Jiang Cheng gone.
Realizing the danger, he urged Jiang Yanli to seek refuge with a woman named Grandma Liu, promising he would find Jiang Cheng and bring him back safely. Jiang Yanli made him promise to find Jiang Cheng so that all three of them could go to Meishan together. Wei Wuxian made his way towards Lotus Cove, where he unexpectedly encountered Wen Ning at the entrance.
It was then that he learned Jiang Cheng had been captured by Wen Chao and brought back. Wei Wuxian briefly considered taking Wen Ning hostage but couldn't bring himself to do it. Wen Ning, appearing to have no ill intent, volunteered to help rescue Jiang Cheng, and Wei Wuxian decided to trust him.
That night, Wen Chao hosted a celebratory banquet at Lotus Cove, hanging the bodies of Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan by the gate as a grotesque testament to his victory. Unbeknownst to him, Wen Ning had already secretly drugged the wine. Wen Chao heartily drank, even urging Wen Zhuliu to join him. Wen Zhuliu's expression was grim, and though he seemed to sense something amiss with the wine, he remained silent and drank it anyway.
Meanwhile, Wei Wuxian anxiously waited outside, hoping Wen Ning would succeed in rescuing Jiang Cheng. He wrestled with his worries, unsure if Wen Ning could be trusted, and even considered if it would be better if Jiang Cheng wasn't inside, though his immediate concern was for his senior sister's safety.
