The Untamed Episode 13 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
Wen Chao led the cultivation disciples towards Mount Muxi. Along the way, Wei Wuxian, concerned about Lan Wangji's injured leg, offered to carry him. Lan Wangji, however, stubbornly refused. Observing Lan Wangji's persistence, Wei Wuxian sent a small paper man to Wen Qing. He conveyed his gratitude for her help the previous night and requested her assistance in getting Lan Wangji some rest. Understanding the plea, Wen Qing announced a halt for the group to rest.
Wen Chao, suspicious, warned Wen Qing not to cause trouble and reminded her to consider her younger brother's safety, before ordering everyone to resume their journey. Upon reaching Mount Muxi, Wen Chao commanded the disciples to find the entrance to the monster's cave before nightfall. A young disciple privately questioned the identity of Wang Lingjiao, the bossy woman giving orders.
Another explained that she was formerly a maid to Wen Chao's principal wife, who had used her looks to win Wen Chao's favor. She possessed no real skill but was adept at exploiting Wen Chao’s authority. Wang Lingjiao, overhearing the whispers, sharply chastised the disciples. When they reported no cave entrance could be found, Wen Chao furiously called them useless. Wei Wuxian then produced a spiritual talisman, which dispelled the surrounding mist and revealed the cave entrance.
Wei Wuxian led the way into the gloomy, rock-strewn cave. Upon reaching a deep, dark pit, Wen Chao callously shoved Wei Wuxian down. Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng quickly followed to ensure Wei Wuxian’s safety. As they ventured deeper, they discovered a vast, glowing green pool. Wen Chao, bringing the rest of his group down, ordered someone to be hung and bled to lure out the beast. Jin Zixuan protested, condemning the use of human flesh and blood as bait.
Wang Lingjiao, however, singled out Mianmian to be sacrificed, taunting Jin Zixuan for his reluctance to see her harmed. As Wang Lingjiao prepared to proceed, Wei Wuxian intervened, vehemently denouncing Wen Chao for using the disciples as human shields and now resorting to live bait. Enraged, Wen Chao ordered Jin Zixuan to bind Mianmian himself, threatening that no one from their clans would return if he refused.
Wei Wuxian then condemned Wen Chao's actions, quoting a passage from the Wen clan's own "The Quintessence of Wens" about executing those who rely on their family's power to commit evil. Wen Chao, infuriated that Wei Wuxian dared to quote Wen Mao's words to him, attacked. Wei Wuxian swiftly took Wen Chao hostage, holding his sword to his throat and leaping onto a large rock in the water.
He warned Wen Zhuliu and the other Wens that if Wen Chao bled, everyone present would die. Suddenly, the ground beneath Wei Wuxian began to shake violently. Jiang Cheng realized it wasn't an earthquake but the rock itself moving. Lan Wangji urged everyone to remain silent, explaining that the creature's poor eyesight meant it wouldn't attack if they made no sound.
However, Wen Chao foolishly shrieked for Wen Zhuliu’s help, alerting the gigantic Xuanwu of Slaughter, a massive turtle that immediately surfaced and attacked. Amidst the chaos, Wang Lingjiao, resentful of Mianmian's beauty, attempted to brand her face with a hot iron. Wei Wuxian rushed to Mianmian's aid, pushing her out of the way but suffering a severe burn to his chest. As the monster rampaged, Wen Chao, Wang Lingjiao, and Wen Qing began to retreat.
Despite Wen Qing's protests, Wen Chao maliciously cut the escape ropes and used rocks to seal the cave exit, trapping Wei Wuxian and the remaining disciples. The cultivators despaired, but Lan Wangji, noticing maple leaves floating in the dark pool despite no maple trees inside the cave, deduced that an underwater exit must connect to an outside stream. Taking the lead, Wei Wuxian hurled a torch to distract the monstrous turtle.
Seizing the opportunity, Jiang Cheng dove into the pool and soon resurfaced, confirming the existence of an exit large enough for five or six people to pass through at once. Wei Wuxian ordered everyone to follow Jiang Cheng and escape, while he remained behind to cover their retreat. As Mianmian rushed to escape, she stumbled and cut her hand, her blood seeping into the water.
The scent of blood sent the Xuanwu of Slaughter into a frenzy, causing it to launch a furious attack on Wei Wuxian. Lan Wangji rushed to help, his already injured leg sustaining further damage. Wei Wuxian managed to pull Lan Wangji into a narrow crevice in the rock, where the turtle’s massive head could not reach. Once safe, Wei Wuxian tended to Lan Wangji's leg.
Finding no rope, he unceremoniously used Lan Wangji's forehead ribbon to bind the wound, much to Lan Wangji's chagrin. Wei Wuxian then remembered a rare medicinal pill Wen Ning had given him, only to find very little of it remaining. Realizing Lan Wangji needed to expel clotted blood from his chest, Wei Wuxian provoked him by attempting to remove his wet robes. Lan Wangji, furious and embarrassed, coughed up the stagnant blood, feeling much better afterward.
Wei Wuxian then felt the searing pain from the brand on his chest but declared he had no regrets, considering the mark a permanent badge of his bravery in protecting Mianmian. He tried to reassure Lan Wangji that rescue would surely come. Lan Wangji, however, expressed a grim outlook, revealing that Cloud Recesses had been burned, his uncle severely wounded, and his elder brother, Zewu-Jun, was missing.
Wei Wuxian's heart sank, and he began to worry about Jiang Cheng and the safety of Yunmeng. He tried to lighten the mood by chattering, observing that Lan Wangji had spoken more to him in their current predicament than ever before. As Lan Wangji succumbed to sleep, Wei Wuxian pondered their dire situation, having angered Wen Chao, and worried deeply for Jiang Cheng and the fate of Yunmeng.
