Story of Kunning Palace Episode 37 Recap
> Story of Kunning Palace Recap
Jiang Xuening was fuming. She had wanted to think everything through before discussing the future with Xie Wei, but he had dashed off early in the morning. She couldn’t tell who was at more of a disadvantage between them. Love was one thing; marriage was another. Jiang Xuening needed more time to figure things out. Xie Wei grew even angrier. The Emperor had no intention of punishing Xie Wei—after all, capable men were needed in court.
Upon hearing this, Xue Shu quickly sent a message to the Duke of Xue: they could wait no longer—the time had come. You Fangyin was hidden and interrogated at the Xue residence. Zhou Yinzhi urged her to say something—anything would do, true or not, since she was Jiang Xuening’s close friend. But You Fangyin refused, prompting Zhou Yinzhi to use branding torture. Xie Wei and Lü Xian received news of You Fangyin’s capture and decided to return to the capital.
The war with the Xues had begun. Xie Wei saw Jiang Xuening with Zhang Zhe and shared the plan to return to the capital. Then he told her about You Fangyin. Jiang Xuening was furious—she had always known Zhou Yinzhi’s nature and should have eliminated him earlier. She planned to rescue You Fangyin from the Xue residence and gave her sword to Xie Wei, wishing him a safe return.
But Xie Wei was full of resentment—she couldn’t give him a promise, yet still stirred his emotions. Xie Wei’s true goal had always been Prince Pingnan and the Xue family. This return to the capital was for the sake of the realm. Yan Mu also hoped Xie Wei wouldn’t be blinded by hatred. They bid each other farewell. Before departing, Jiang Xuening looked toward Xie Wei, but he hesitated to speak.
When the Emperor learned that Xie Wei had set out for the capital, he had no intention of punishing him—so long as Xie Wei and Yan Lin remained loyal. Suddenly, the Emperor coughed up blood. The Empress Dowager questioned Xue Shu, who feigned ignorance, enraging the Dowager to the point of ordering her to be slapped. At that moment, the Duke of Xue arrived and told the Dowager the Emperor did not have long to live.
She instantly realized the Duke and Xue Shu were colluding. Furious, she tried to call for help, but the Duke threatened her into silence and revealed Xie Wei’s identity. The Dowager was devastated by how the Duke could harm his own flesh and blood, but ultimately gave silent consent to their plan. Xie Wei and Zhang Zhe escorted Shen Zhiyi back to the capital, where she was summoned by the Empress Dowager.
Zhang Zhe, Xie Wei, and Yan Lin headed to the imperial study. Though the Emperor was very ill, he insisted on seeing them. But before they arrived, he fainted. Zhang Zhe, Xie Wei, and Yan Lin were surrounded by Xue Ye. Weaponless, they had only Yan Lin and Jianshu to resist. Yan Lin told Jianshu to lead Xie Wei and Zhang Zhe away.
Meanwhile, the Duke of Xue presented an imperial edict transferring power to Prince Linzi, ordering the arrest of Xie Wei and his group. Gu Chunfang didn’t believe his one-sided claims but was still placed under house arrest. Lü Xian and Jiang Xuening led men to the Xue residence to rescue You Fangyin. Zhou Yinzhi took You Fangyin hostage to save himself, but she held him back during his escape and was stabbed in the chest by him.
She refused to let someone like Zhou Yinzhi escape. Jiang Xuening was devastated—she wished You Fangyin could stay with her forever, but it was too late. You Fangyin looked once more at Lü Xian. Sadly, she hadn’t signed the divorce papers, leaving Lü Xian labeled as a widower. She had always known his feelings and believed they would be together someday. Unable to hold on, You Fangyin collapsed in Jiang Xuening’s arms.
