Mai Chenghuan is a gentle and sweet girl from Shanghai, 29 years old this year. Her mother, Liu Wanyu, and father, Mai Laitian, are both working-class. She has lived in the small alley of Sanheli since childhood. It was already 10:30 PM, and Mai Chenghuan hadn’t returned home yet. Liu Wanyu was worried and urged Mai Laitian to go to the alley entrance to pick her up.

Mai Laitian was impatient—after all, the Botticelli Hotel where Mai Chenghuan worked was very close to home, and there was no danger at all, so he felt there was no need. Still uneasy, Liu Wanyu decided to go herself, with Mai Laitian reluctantly following. Mai Chenghuan had been in a relationship with Xin Jialiang for three years. She felt the timing wasn’t right and had never introduced their parents.

Early in the morning, Mai Chenghuan took the dessert to work. Her colleague Wu You called and asked her to buy a watermelon on the way, which she did.

Carrying the dessert in one hand and the watermelon in the other, she entered the elevator, just as Liu Wanyu called again to harp on the previous night’s events. She persistently asked whether Mai Chenghuan had slept with Xin Jialiang. The call was loud, and her colleagues turned to look. Embarrassed, Mai Chenghuan blushed deeply. There was also a stranger in the elevator standing right next to her.

When they reached their floor, the man left the elevator with a cup of coffee. Mai Chenghuan accidentally spilled it and apologized repeatedly. The man said nothing and walked away. She handed the dessert and watermelon to her colleague, then chased after the man to clean the coffee stain from his shirt with a stain remover pen. The man offered her a few hundred yuan as a tip, but Mai Chenghuan politely declined and welcomed him to the hotel.

Xin Jialiang lived alone, and his mother often visited to bring him things. Seeing that he was living comfortably, she knew it was all thanks to the capable Mai Chenghuan, who managed his daily life in perfect order. However, his mother looked down on Mai Chenghuan for growing up in a small alley and wrongly believed she was only interested in their wealth.

Xin Jialiang had wanted to explain his family background early on, but his mother always stopped him, so Mai Chenghuan still didn’t know he was from a wealthy family. To welcome the new director, Yao Zhiming, Wu You asked Lily to prepare a fruit platter and cake. Lily forgot to order the cake, and Wu You wanted to use the one Mai Chenghuan made for Xin Jialiang. Suddenly, Liu Wanyu called again, and Mai Chenghuan stepped out to answer. When she returned to the meeting room, she saw Wu You had placed her cake on the table. The new operations director, Director Yao, was the same man from the elevator. Without asking for details, he fired Mai Chenghuan on the spot. Lily tried to explain she had put the cake away, but Wu You had brought it out again. Wu You also mocked her.

Knowing Wu You was targeting her, Mai Chenghuan insisted on explaining everything to Yao Zhiming. Yao Zhiming officially took his post, warmly welcomed by General Manager Dennis. Zhang arranged for her most trusted driver, Mai Laitian, to drive Yao Zhiming. Mai Chenghuan followed Yao Zhiming to a convenience store and earnestly begged for another chance. Yao Zhiming was surprised to learn she was both Xin Jialiang’s girlfriend and Mai Laitian’s daughter.

Just then, he received a call from his assistant and had to get to Songjiang within an hour. It was rush hour, and Mai Laitian couldn’t arrive in time, so Mai Chenghuan took Yao Zhiming on a 40-minute subway ride, followed by a 10-minute bike ride. They arrived 15 minutes early. Impressed, Yao Zhiming agreed to give her another chance and arranged for her to meet a client the next day. Mai Chenghuan stayed up all night researching Deshan Home Furnishings.

Coincidentally, Xin Jialiang worked there. She wanted to call him for more information. Meanwhile, Liu Wanyu urged her to discuss marriage with Xin Jialiang. Left with no choice, Mai Chenghuan reluctantly agreed and texted Xin Jialiang to come over for dinner the next day. But Xin Jialiang had to meet a client, so she dropped the idea. General Manager Xin brought Xin Jialiang to meet Yao Zhiming. Yao Zhiming deliberately stepped out, leaving Mai Chenghuan to receive them.

Xin Jialiang worried she’d recognize him, so he disguised himself, but still got found out. Mai Chenghuan was shocked to learn that Xin Jialiang was the son of Deshan Home Furnishings’ CEO.
