Storm Eye Episode 6 Recap
> Storm Eye Recap
Ma Shang and He Zixuan tracked Jia Changan's movements, informing An Jing that he had just passed the Youhe intersection of Nancheng Ring Road and was heading south. A report letter against Jia Changan surfaced, completely disrupting their entire plan, and Jia Changan was also internally distraught. An Jing was puzzled when Jia Changan continued heading east, as both the airport and railway station were to the west.
Ma Shang reassured her that they were monitoring his phone and would stay in touch. Jia Changan first tried to call an unknown number, but the call did not go through. He then received a call from Miao Fei. Crying, Jia Changan claimed the report letter was false and that he was being framed. Miao Fei believed him, telling him not to answer any questions if interrogated, and to immediately come to Dinghua, where her father was arranging a lawyer.
Jia Changan, distressed, admitted National Security was already after him. Ma Shang, having intercepted the call, quickly contacted An Jing, informing her that Jia Changan had just entered Dinghua's parking lot and was about to meet Miao Fei. An Jing, still ten minutes away, was urged to hurry to prevent them from colluding their stories. Ma Shang and He Zixuan speculated whether Miao Fei was truly unaware of Jia Changan's activities.
Miao Fei waited anxiously in her office for Jia Changan. His car parked in a surveillance blind spot in the underground garage, making it impossible for Ma Shang to observe him. Upon arrival, An Jing found Jia Changan dead in his car. The door was locked, and she used tools to open it, confirming his death. Miao Fei, seeing Jia Changan's lifeless body, struggled to accept what had happened.
An Jing and Du Meng then went to question Miao Huanyang and Miao Fei. Overcome with grief and anger, Miao Fei vehemently demanded they leave. An Jing calmly waited outside. Miao Huanyang asked An Jing if the report letter's allegations were true. An Jing disclosed that they had already intercepted the latest batch of ore bound for Changan Science & Technology, indicating that the report was not entirely baseless.
Miao Huanyang feigned ignorance, expressing anger that Jia Changan had conducted such activities behind his back. Du Meng, however, remained suspicious, noting that a shipment of such a large quantity of ore from Dinghua would require Miao Huanyang's personal authorization. Ma Shang continued investigating an unknown number Jia Changan had called before his death, which did not connect.
The initial forensic examination showed no external injuries on Jia Changan's body, and the cause of death was determined to be carbon monoxide poisoning from car exhaust. He Zixuan pointed out that Jia Changan had sent a text message to Miao Fei with only three words, "I am sorry," which seemed like a suicide note. Du Meng concluded that Jia Changan had committed suicide due to fear of conviction.
However, An Jing and Ma Shang disagreed, questioning why he would choose a surveillance blind spot in Dinghua for suicide, and pointing out that he had not yet been convicted, nor was it necessarily a capital crime. They wondered why he would choose such an extreme path when there was still a possibility for him to clear his name.
Ma Shang highlighted that Jia Changan's secretary had seen him leave with a stack of documents, which were missing from the crime scene. Director Song instructed An Jing and Du Meng to continue investigating Miao Huanyang and Miao Fei, emphasizing that Miao Huanyang was the origin point, regardless of his direct involvement in smuggling. Ma Shang mused about who would benefit most from Jia Changan's death.
On the way back, An Jing continued to ponder the case, suggesting a possible connection between Jia Changan's smuggling and Dinghua's intellectual property theft case. An Jing and Du Meng approached Miao Huanyang again, requesting another autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death. Miao Huanyang strongly refused, but Miao Fei interjected, agreeing to speak with them. Miao Fei struggled to reconcile Jia Changan's promise to meet her with his sudden death, adamantly stating he would not have committed suicide.
She agreed to the autopsy, determined to uncover the truth. Meanwhile, Miao Huanyang, agitated, called Qiao Xichuan (referred to as Elder He), accusing him of being responsible for Jia Changan's death. Qiao Xichuan denied the accusation, claiming Jeffrey's people had acted too swiftly, showing a lack of trust in him, and making things more complicated. He emphasized the urgent need to find new suppliers to restore the flow of goods.
Zhou Lian expressed a desire to withdraw from their operations, but Qiao Xichuan rejected her request, instructing her to remain close to Miao Fei and to find an opportunity to handle the cameras in Jia Changan's office. He Zixuan's review of surveillance footage confirmed that neither Miao Huanyang nor Miao Fei had the opportunity to commit the murder themselves, though the possibility of them hiring a killer could not be ruled out.
During this time, Ma Shang received a call from Dinghua's Administration Department, inviting him for an interview on Monday. Ma Shang went back to the crime scene, re-evaluating the details. He Zixuan discovered a crucial piece of evidence from the Dinghua underground parking lot surveillance: a third person was present before An Jing's arrival and took documents that Jia Changan had brought from his office.
Ma Shang hypothesized that the killer had hidden in Jia Changan's trunk beforehand, waiting for the opportune moment. An Jing found this unlikely, arguing that Jia Changan's decision to go to Dinghua was at Miao Fei's insistence, and his parking spot was random, making it impossible for a killer to have been pre-positioned at the scene. Ma Shang further suggested that Jia Changan's lack of resistance during the murder implied the use of drugs, indicating an acquaintance was likely involved.
Director Song questioned how the killer could have left the scene without being captured by surveillance cameras. An Jing then received a call from Dr. Li, who reported finding a small needle mark under Jia Changan's left armpit during the autopsy, yet no drug residue was detected in his body. An Jing asked if there were drugs that could induce a coma and metabolize quickly. Ma Shang confirmed such drugs existed but were extremely difficult to acquire.
An Jing then deduced that the killer, after committing the act, hid in the trunk of a nearby car. The killer would have remained there, listening to the movements outside, including the police's initial investigation. Once the scene was less restricted and the onlookers dispersed, the killer would have emerged from the trunk, used a surveillance blind spot to hail a ride, or blended into the crowd to escape.
She concluded that the killer was not only an acquaintance but very likely someone associated with Dinghua. An Jing sternly warned Ma Shang that his mission at Dinghua had escalated. What started as an investigation into commercial espionage now involved a murder, and if his identity were exposed, he could become the killer's next target. Ma Shang calmly stated that he had considered such risks when he joined National Security.
Later, at home, Ma Shang's father mentioned Jia Changan's reported suicide, to which Ma Shang feigned ignorance. On Monday, Ma Shang went to Dinghua for his interview, where he met another applicant named Yang Xun, who was already working at Dinghua as a special assistant to the administrative management center director.
