Early in the morning, Fu Dayong called Yang Xun, accusing him of trying to harm him. Yang Xun feigned ignorance, prompting Fu Dayong to reveal that the documents Yang Xun provided were fake. Yang Xun tried to stall, claiming it was a misunderstanding and promising to visit Fu Dayong immediately. After hanging up, Yang Xun quickly contacted Qiao Xichuan, informing him that Fu Dayong had discovered the fake documents.

Qiao Xichuan instructed Yang Xun not to worry and to wait for Fu Dayong to follow up, assuring him that Fu Dayong would soon cooperate. Meanwhile, Pang Yishan visited Lin Xiaolan in the hospital. He brought good news of a company willing to invest in Dinghua, stating that the deal was nearly certain if they agreed to a slight reduction in the stock price.

Lin Xiaolan, trusting Pang Yishan’s capabilities, reluctantly gave him full authority to manage the negotiations, acknowledging it seemed to be the only way to save Dinghua. Later, Fu Dayong received an unexpected package containing only a mobile phone. Upon opening the phone, he saw a video of his daughter being kidnapped. Moments later, Qiao Xichuan called him, threatening his daughter’s safety if he reported anything to the police.

Qiao Xichuan demanded that Fu Dayong follow their plan to prepare the ore as instructed and complete the mining contract on time, promising his daughter's safe return and a "thank-you gift" once the deal was complete. Fu Dayong, distressed and fearful for his daughter, had no choice but to comply. At Dinghua, Pang Yishan's efforts to win over Engineer Cheng Lei became increasingly obvious after Yu Haoran's incident.

While Cheng Lei initially disliked Pang Yishan, he admitted that Pang Yishan had genuinely worked hard to resolve the company's crisis. Miao Lu, overhearing their conversation, expressed her dissatisfaction with Cheng Lei's change of heart. Cheng Lei then questioned why Miao Huanyang, Miao Lu's father, had not appeared to address the major issues facing Dinghua, leaving Miao Lu speechless. Separately, a contact known as Bat reported to Jeffrey that Qiao Xichuan was diligently working on the case.

Jeffrey, in turn, instructed Bat to temporarily cease tracking Qiao Xichuan to ensure Bat's identity remained unexposed. Miao Fei called Ma Shang for a meeting, informing him that she had secured permission from Pang Yishan for him to attend the second round of negotiations between Dinghua and Knowledge & Invention Union. Ma Shang was surprised by this gesture.

Miao Fei found the short interval between the two negotiation rounds unusual, suggesting Knowledge & Invention Union seemed overly anxious as they had set the negotiation times. Ma Shang later reported on the meeting, noting that both sides fiercely bargained over the stock price. However, he found it curious that Pang Yishan steadfastly refused to lower the stock price, despite the other side's pressure.

Ma Shang believed Miao Fei's special request for him to attend the meeting confirmed her suspicion about his true identity. An Jing agreed, recalling her previous encounter with Miao Fei. She wondered if Miao Fei's eagerness to show loyalty had an ulterior motive, but Ma Shang resolved to remain vigilant without revealing his identity. An Jing admitted her admiration for Miao Fei’s ability to remain composed and focused despite the crises, even questioning if she could be deeply deceptive.

Ma Shang, however, explained that his background check on Miao Fei showed she had dedicated her entire career to Dinghua since graduation, making it unlikely she had time for professional espionage training. An Jing then considered her own situation, admitting she hadn't yet told her mother about her true work and needed time to organize her thoughts.

Ma Shang, too, was conflicted; he decided to go home that night, worried about his father’s displeasure after not returning home the previous night. He lamented the difficulty of keeping his secret from his parents while living under the same roof, joking that his mother might "kill him" when she found out, though An Jing reassured him, saying his mother would surely understand.

An Jing dropped Ma Shang off near his home, where they unexpectedly saw Fu Dayong rushing out of Ma Shang's house, looking disoriented. Fu Dayong briefly mumbled that he had been discussing something with Ma Shang’s father before hastily departing. Ma Shang entered his home, where his father, Ma Junhai, immediately asked to speak with him privately. Ma Junhai explained that he had pondered all night and felt something was amiss with Ma Shang’s recent behavior.

He ruled out romance, drinking, gambling, or other illicit activities, concluding there was only one possibility: Ma Shang had another job. Ma Shang, trying to appear calm, confirmed he had taken a side job to supplement his income, explaining that his salary at Dinghua was significantly less than his previous job in Beijing. He assured his father that this wouldn't affect his main responsibilities at Dinghua, especially since Dinghua's uncertain future meant he couldn't afford to be idle.

Ma Junhai, though initially concerned about contract ethics, ultimately accepted Ma Shang’s explanation, cautioning him to maintain a balance and prioritize his health over money. Ma Shang then inquired about Fu Dayong, to which his father casually replied that Fu Dayong had simply asked him to handle a shipment for another company, as Dinghua's business had declined.

Later, Fu Dayong received another call from Qiao Xichuan, who instructed him to close all the curtains in his house, an action observed with confusion by Du Meng, who was monitoring Fu Dayong. Following Qiao Xichuan’s next command, Fu Dayong went to the bathroom and turned on all the faucets at full blast. Meanwhile, He Zixuan reported that Yushan Mining lacked the necessary government approval to extract ore, confirming that Fu Dayong's private mining activities were entirely illegal.

An Jing grew increasingly concerned that Fu Dayong was indeed planning to smuggle ore. Suddenly, Ma Shang called An Jing, reporting that he was being followed. An Jing immediately instructed He Zixuan to locate Ma Shang's car. Ma Shang skillfully led his pursuer through streets with surveillance cameras, allowing An Jing to identify the follower. To her surprise, An Jing recognized the man as Ma Shang's father. Ma Shang was momentarily at a loss, but decided to confront his father.

He kept his phone line open for An Jing to monitor their conversation. Department Chief Song Ming arrived, and An Jing briefed him on the situation. Song Ming suggested a simple explanation: a father worried about his son. However, he also acknowledged the need for other preparations, given Ma Junhai's connections to Miao Huanyang and Fu Dayong.

Ma Junhai confessed to Ma Shang that he had been following him since work, driven by worry that Ma Shang might be involved in something illicit. Ma Shang reiterated his earlier explanation about his side job and rushed out, claiming he had to meet a friend. Simultaneously, at the mine, Fu Dayong was overseeing the secret extraction and storage of ore, emphasizing safety precautions even for overnight storage.

Back at headquarters, He Zixuan found it perplexing that Ma Junhai would run a red light just to keep up with Ma Shang, finding it an unusually extreme action for a worried father. Ma Shang, understanding the implications, admitted he couldn't fully explain his father's persistence. He acknowledged his father's extensive connections with Miao Huanyang and Fu Dayong, and his deep familiarity with Ma Shang himself, making it impossible to hide his true identity from him.

He worried that if his father was involved in any criminal activity, his own identity might already be compromised. An Jing, having confirmed with Miao Huanyang that Ma Junhai’s relationship with Dinghua was strictly business and not private, proposed a solution to clear Ma Junhai's suspicion. An Jing and Department Chief Song Ming arranged to meet Ma Junhai for a meal.

During their conversation, An Jing directly informed Ma Junhai that they possessed sufficient evidence to prove Fu Dayong was smuggling national rare resources, catching Ma Junhai off guard. He expressed disbelief, mentioning that Fu Dayong had just given him an order for a shipment. An Jing confirmed that they had been tracking Fu Dayong since he discussed that order with Ma Junhai.
