After Hu Fei's arrival in Foshan caused unrest, Feng Tiannan instigated the townspeople to attack Hu Fei and Yuan Ziyi, offering ten taels for a punch and a staggering ten thousand taels for their deaths. Despite the enormous reward, the villagers hesitated, knowing Hu Fei and Yuan Ziyi were righteous. A brave child stepped forward to defend them, only to enrage Feng Yiming, who aimed an arrow at him.

In a tragic turn, the deranged Mrs. Zhong, mistaking the boy for her own son, shielded him and was fatally struck by the arrow. This brutal act ignited the fury of the townspeople, who vowed revenge and demanded the Feng family be driven out of Foshan. The enraged crowd surged toward the Feng family mansion. The yamen runners and soldiers guarding the entrance were quickly overwhelmed and scattered.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Feng Tiannan, along with his son Feng Yiming, fled through a hidden dog hole in the back, declaring that they could no longer remain in Foshan. Hu Fei, wounded and witnessing the chaos, felt a deep sense of sorrow. Hu Fei's injuries became too severe, and he collapsed unconscious. Yuan Ziyi, distressed, cared for him diligently, shedding tears as she tried to rouse him.

With a final burst of strength, Hu Fei opened his eyes and learned her true name. Yuan Ziyi introduced herself, saying her surname was Yuan and, as she liked wearing purple clothes, he could call her Yuan Ziyi, a name Hu Fei found beautiful. As Yuan Ziyi prepared to leave Foshan with Hu Fei, the entire town lined the streets to bid them farewell, a poignant display of their gratitude and support.

Meanwhile, Tian Guinong sought to win Nan Lan's affection by immersing himself in refined arts like zither, chess, calligraphy, and painting. He eagerly presented his progress to Nan Lan for her critique. Tao Baisui, observing Tian Guinong's deepening infatuation, warned him against neglecting important matters, fearing he was playing a dangerous game. However, Tian Guinong confidently dismissed the warning, affirming his commitment to Nan Lan. Indeed, after a period of intense courtship, Nan Lan had completely surrendered to his charm.

The journey to Weituo Sect was arduous, and Yuan Ziyi meticulously looked after Hu Fei, who had slipped into a deep coma again after his brief awakening, his face growing alarmingly pale. Despite the difficulties, Yuan Ziyi persevered, pulling Hu Fei on a wooden board up the mountain steps. She refused to give up, even as her knees bled from the strain, determined to reach the sect and save him.

Official He arrived at Weituo Sect to deliver an invitation from Fu Kangan for the World's Sect Leaders Gathering, only to find that the sect leader, Wan, had unexpectedly died, which he considered a bad omen. Shang Baozhen, now in service to Fu Kangan after his own family's tragedy, saw an opportunity.

He advised Official He to exploit the power vacuum, suggesting that whichever disciple emerged as the new sect leader would owe Official He a great debt, as they needed a new leader to attend the prestigious gathering in the capital. Around the same time, Yuan Ziyi reached the sect gates, only to be told of Sect Leader Wan's passing. She showed a keepsake, but the guards, unfamiliar with it and noting the master's death, refused her entry, even for mourning.

There were three main contenders for the Weituo Sect leadership. Sun Fuhu, the eldest disciple, had trained with Sect Leader Wan since childhood and possessed the most profound Weituo martial arts. The second disciple was known for his sharp mind and cunning, employing the most refined and adaptable martial techniques. Yang Bin, the third disciple, had joined the sect most recently but showed remarkable progress, his skills rivaling his senior brothers, setting the stage for a fierce succession battle.

Shang Baozhen subtly fanned the flames of ambition among the disciples. Sun Fuhu, eager for Official He's support, presented him with a treasured string of Buddha beads, a gift from his late master. The second disciple, witnessing this, was displeased. He invited the officials to see the Epiphyllum Dew Cream, describing its miraculous healing and anti-aging properties and promising it as a gift if he secured the leadership.

To further sweeten the deal and outdo his senior brother, he also offered the officials the ancient King Kong's Pestle, a significant sect heirloom. Less than a day after Sect Leader Wan's death, the main hall had already been converted into a martial arts arena for selecting the new leader. In a quieter corner, the Weituo Sect's Martial Uncle lamented before Sect Leader Wan's memorial tablet, initially refusing to involve himself in the unseemly squabble.

However, upon learning that the disciples were lobbying the officials and preparing to fight, he eventually decided to ensure his late junior's dignity and urged the third disciple, Yang Bin, to contend fairly. On the stage, Sun Fuhu and Yang Bin began their contest, with the officials encouraging them, believing it would enhance Weituo Sect's reputation. Witnessing the chaotic scene, Yuan Ziyi realized the competition would be prolonged.

Concerned for Hu Fei's grave condition, she decided to claim the position of sect leader herself to expedite his treatment. With a swift move, she leaped onto the stage, easily pushing back the sparring brothers, and loudly chastised them for their unfilial behavior of fighting for power so soon after their master's death. She then solemnly identified herself as Yuan Ziyi, a direct disciple of Sect Leader Wan, making her claim to intervene.
