Teng Yue is struggling with outdated designs, relying on colored shoelaces to refresh an old model. Limited sales channels and rising prices are adding pressure. Production director Liu Jun proposes switching to new suppliers for raw materials to save 5%. Pei Zhiyuan, another production director, hesitates, preferring the reliability of existing suppliers. Jiang Hu approves the switch, stressing the importance of quality control. Jiang Hu discusses the need for a new designer with Yue Shan.
Yue Shan's suggestions don't align with Teng Yue's brand identity. Jiang Hu wants someone with a unique style and deep understanding of the brand's history, and suggests Xiang Chaoyang, a popular freehand painting blogger, who she's observed painting Teng Yue shoes at Lidu Department Store. Yue Shan acknowledges Chaoyang's talent, including her St. Laurent Design Competition win while at Aneda, but reminds Jiang Hu of the two-year non-compete agreement Chaoyang signed after working with Free Unicorn, which complicates things.
At Lidu Department Store, Xiang Chaoyang's collaboration is successful. Song Zhi tells Xu Si that Lidu's general manager, Gao Yi, creatively integrated Chaoyang's on-site painting with the store's redecoration. The event is generating online buzz, and Song Zhi predicts Chaoyang's video will get over a million likes. Xu Si rarely compliments Song Zhi, making her jokingly feel that she might be fired.
Xu Si asks Song Zhi about Teng Yue, and Song Zhi says that sales have decreased and that Jiang Hu is using colored shoelaces as a temporary solution. Xu Si notes Jiang Hu's busy schedule, working long hours doing market research. Xu Si also confirms the Free Unicorn payment has been sent to Teng Yue. Jiang Hu visits Lidu and sees Xiang Chaoyang, exchanging a look with Gao Yi before leaving.
Fang Lan confronts Jiang Hu, making condescending remarks about her current factory life, and mockingly asks her to tie her shoelace. Gao Yi takes Xiang Chaoyang to dinner. He orders her favorite dishes, mentioning Jiang Hu told him about their shared love of strawberries from a high school trip. Gao Yi discusses Chaoyang's design background and suggests her Chinese-style designs didn't suit Aneda's European-influenced sneaker style.
He advises her not to blame Jiang Hu for her departure from Aneda, explaining that Jiang Hu has a flamboyant personality but no malicious intent. Gao Yi asks about the pressure Jiang Hu is facing from Baoxing investors. At home, Yang Jian finds his mother, Zhou Suqing, preparing a large dinner for Xiang Chaoyang. He's upset when he learns Chaoyang is out on a date. Zhou Suqing thinks Chaoyang is in love and hopes she finds a good man.
Yang Jian waits outside Chaoyang's building and sees Gao Yi dropping her off. Gao Yi meets Jiang Hu outside the Teng Yue factory. He offers Teng Yue a booth at Lidu's Sports Festival Fair. Jiang Hu refuses, accusing Gao Yi of trying to destroy her family, saying she would never accept help from him. Jiang Hu goes to the C Club and drinks heavily. Xu Si intervenes when a man bothers her.
Drunk, Jiang Hu mistakes Xu Si for Gao Yi, confessing her feelings for "Gao Yi" and regretting not confessing sooner. She kisses Xu Si and passes out. Xu Si helps her into his car and calls her a "little drunkard." Yue Shan calls Jiang Hu's phone, and Xu Si answers, saying he's taking her home. He takes Jiang Hu to Yue Shan's place. Yue Shan apologizes for the trouble and warns Xu Si against troubling her work partners.
Xu Si dismisses it and leaves. The next morning, Jiang Hu doesn't remember the night before. Yue Shan suggests she drink less and exercise. Meanwhile, at the factory, Pei Zhiyuan finds Liu Jun and others playing cards during work hours and stops them.
