The Qingshan House was filled with solemnity for a funeral. Yuwen Yue, dressed in mourning clothes, displayed a quiet sadness as he prepared to seal the coffin of his deceased grandfather. However, his command was interrupted by an uninvited guest, Yuwen Huai, from the Third Household. Disregarding the guards, Yuwen Huai arrogantly announced his intention to personally open the coffin and examine the corpse. Yuwen Yue tried to stop him, leading to a fierce confrontation in the memorial hall.

Yuwen Huai accused Yuwen Yue, an adopted grandson, of wanting to seize control of the Spy Network of Heavenly Eyes and Qingshan House prematurely, implying he was the murderer. Yuwen Yue, in turn, insulted Yuwen Huai by referencing his mother's past. Amidst their intense battle, a sword thrown by Yuwen Huai narrowly missed an eunuch standing near the courtyard entrance. The eunuch immediately cried out for guards, announcing the presence of the Noble Consort.

Hearing this, Yuwen Yue quickly dropped his weapon and respectfully greeted her. Yuwen Huai, realizing the Noble Consort was a strategic intervention by Yuwen Yue, also ceased his attack. The Noble Consort, in her regal attire, immediately questioned Yuwen Huai for causing a disturbance. Yuwen Huai falsely claimed that Yuwen Yue had insisted on sealing the coffin and had attacked him first. Yuwen Yue countered, explaining to the Noble Consort that his grandfather had died from a rare Western poison.

Fearing the poison would spread, he had swiftly burned all suspicious items before sealing the coffin. The Noble Consort commended Yuwen Yue's decisive action. When asked about the poisoner, Yuwen Yue stated the answer was obvious, subtly hinting at Yuwen Huai, who was responsible for procuring tributes via the Silk Road—including a two-colored-eyed cat for the Dowager Empress the previous year.

Upon hearing the implied accusation, Yuwen Huai attempted to attack his cousin again but was immediately stopped by the Noble Consort. She rebuked Yuwen Huai for his audacity and, to prevent further discord, declared she would personally inspect the body. After her examination, the Noble Consort confirmed that Yuwen Zhuo had indeed died of poisoning.

Acknowledging a past debt of gratitude to the deceased, she issued an imperial decree: Yuwen Huai was forbidden from ever entering Qingshan House again, unless explicitly invited by its master. Resentful, Yuwen Huai grudgingly complied and departed with his men. Before her departure, the Noble Consort expressed her concern for Yuwen Yue's precarious situation.

She suggested that if he could gain the Emperor's trust and reactivate the Spy Network of Heavenly Eyes, she would facilitate his marriage to Princess Chun, a match his grandfather had wished for. Yuwen Yue humbly declined, stating he was unworthy.

The Noble Consort then warned him that the Spy Network was a valuable asset the Emperor would never abandon, and reminded him that he was not the Emperor's sole candidate for its control, implying he must either fully commit or face dire consequences. Meanwhile, in the woodshed, Chu Qiao regained consciousness, overwhelmed with grief. She refused the medicine brought by her older sister Zhixiang, blaming herself for their brother Linxi's death.

Xiaoba, another younger sister, harshly accused Chu Qiao of being an "unlucky star" who cursed their family. Zhixiang intervened, defending Chu Qiao and explaining that in their chaotic world, the lives of slaves were cheap and their fates were beyond their control. Encouraged by her sister's words, Chu Qiao resolved to live on for Linxi, who had died trying to save her, and drank the medicine.

In the courtyard, maids gossiped as guards carried out the body of Jin Lan, a maid sent to the Bliss Chamber who was tortured to death by Yuwen Huai after Old Master Xi rejected her. Soon after, Madame Song arrived to select more maids for the Bliss Chamber, specifically naming Chu Qiao. To save her, Zhixiang desperately begged to go in her place.

Before leaving, Zhixiang entrusted a special item to Xiaoba for Chu Qiao and urged Chu Qiao to take care of their younger sisters and to endure whatever happened. No girl who entered the Bliss Chamber came out alive, and Zhixiang was no exception. Chu Qiao, hiding with her sisters, watched in silent agony as Zhixiang's lifeless body was loaded onto a cart and taken away.

Witnessing this, Chu Qiao understood true powerlessness and vowed she would not "swallow down anything anymore." Later, after secretly burying Zhixiang, the three sisters burned paper money at the makeshift graves of their siblings. Suddenly, Madame Song, who had been punished by Yuwen Huai for revealing secrets about the Third Household's tributes, stumbled upon them. Hoping to regain favor by turning them in, she started a struggle. During the scuffle, Madame Song slipped from a bridge.

Chu Qiao managed to grab her but couldn't maintain her grip, and Madame Song plunged into the water. Terrified, the younger sisters believed they had committed murder, but Chu Qiao reassured them that Madame Song deserved her fate and promised to take full responsibility. Unbeknownst to them, a hidden figure had watched the entire incident. Back in Qingshan House, Yuwen Yue's parrot repeatedly squawked, "Bad guy is here!" just as Yan Xun sauntered in.

Yan Xun playfully circled Yuwen Yue, suggesting that if his grandfather were truly dead, he wouldn't appear so calm. Yuwen Yue replied that being too clever is not always a good thing. Yan Xun spoke of his dislike for the Yuwen family's internal strife, expressing his own desire to be a free eagle on the prairie. When asked about his own aspirations, Yuwen Yue stated that his choice had always been "no choice."

Yan Xun then warned him that the Old Master of the Third Household would personally plant spies by his side. Changing the subject, Yan Xun took a bottle of injury medicine from Yuwen Yue's desk and went to find Chu Qiao. He arrived just as guards were attempting to take her away for punishment. Yan Xun effortlessly intervened, dispersing the guards by claiming Chu Qiao as his friend.

Confused by her somber mood, he listened as she explained her recent losses and precarious situation. Understanding her plight, Yan Xun said no more, simply left the medicine, and quietly departed. Later, as Yuwen Yue oversaw the dismantling of the funeral hall, the Old Master of the Third Household arrived. He declared Yuwen Yue's adoption papers invalid because they lacked his birth father's signature. With a subtle smile, Yuwen Yue calmly produced an imperial decree, nullifying the challenge.

Undeterred, the Old Master presented Yuwen Yue with a beautiful woman to serve him. Yuwen Yue graciously accepted, declaring he would welcome not only the Old Master's gifts but also those from all other powerful relatives, signaling his intent to consolidate all power offered to him.
