Li Huizhen's family believes she argued with Xia Qiao, causing her to come home. Her sister, Huilin, advises Li Huizhen to cherish Xia Qiao as a friend. Bai Haoyu calls Li Huizhen after reflecting on their recent interactions, but Huilin answers and invites him to Li Huizhen's parents' home. Bai Haoyu brings a new television as a gift. Li Huizhen's family warmly welcomes him, and Li Huizhen's father invites him to drink.
Bai Haoyu, a light drinker, becomes intoxicated after one glass. Li Huizhen's parents comment on his transformation from a heavy, unattractive child to a handsome adult. Li Huizhen later attempts to untie his tie while he sleeps on the sofa; he wakes up and misunderstands her actions. Xia Qiao returns home late to find her birth mother waiting. Her mother, whose life has improved, wants Xia Qiao to move to France with her for a better life.
Xia Qiao refuses, explaining that she has endured fifteen years without her mother and the pain of their past, stating she doesn't hate her but will not go with her, having moved on. The letter reveals Xia Qiao's initial intention to approach Bai Haoyu on Li Huizhen's behalf, her subsequent falling in love with him, and her willingness to withdraw. Bai Haoyu expresses his understanding that it wasn't Xia Qiao's fault, reiterates his commitment to Li Huizhen, and promises to wait for her to resolve her issues, urging her not to avoid him.
