Gu Dapeng waited for a long time at Ren Jiajia's school gate, but even after school ended and most students had left, he still didn't see her. Worried, he called Niu Meili to ask about Ren Jiajia's whereabouts. Niu Meili, feeling a bit jealous that Gu Dapeng hadn't called her in a while and was now asking about Ren Jiajia, became concerned when she heard Ren Jiajia was missing.
Just as Niu Meili was preparing to go out and search, Ren Jiajia appeared at her house. Niu Meili wanted to scold Ren Jiajia, but Ren Jiajia quickly changed the topic, mentioning Zhao Xiaobei and Gu Dapeng. Ren Jiajia claimed she was "vetting" them on Niu Meili's behalf to see who would be more suitable for her. Niu Meili, exasperated, chased Ren Jiajia, pretending to hit her, before they both ended up lying on the bed.
Ren Jiajia then confessed that she had skipped school because her father was getting his marriage registered that day, and she was in a bad mood, which made her forget about Gu Dapeng. Hearing this, Niu Meili felt pity for Ren Jiajia and couldn't bring herself to scold her further, offering to let her stay overnight.
Ren Jiajia ended up staying at Niu Meili's house for a long time, wanting to give her father more time and feeling like an "outsider" after his remarriage. Niu Meili, now affluent, bought back a watch she had previously sold. Later, Niu Meili received a call from Peng Yongkang, who expressed his desire to visit her in person. Ren Jiajia mistakenly thought Peng Yongkang was a suitor for Niu Meili and immediately objected, disliking the "pot-bellied" Peng Yongkang.
Niu Meili, however, readily agreed to the visit, but immediately ordered Ren Jiajia to clean up the messy house. When Peng Yongkang arrived, Ren Jiajia did her homework nearby. Peng Yongkang remained silent for a while before revealing his true purpose, which was when Niu Meili learned that he had previously sought out Hao Zeyu. Niu Meili felt upset and gloomy after Peng Yongkang departed. Meanwhile, Hao Zeyu and Fu Zi discussed Fu Zi's father's attitude.
Fu Zi still harbored some resentment towards her father, but she had been very happy during Hao Zeyu's stay at her home, feeling like "intimate lovers" and family, enjoying peaceful times. She didn't want this to change. Hao Zeyu, however, comforted Fu Zi, explaining that as a professional actor, he needed his own space. Hao Zeyu jokingly suggested Fu Zi was proposing, which she denied, stating she wasn't so desperate.
Later that night, Fu Zi's father chatted with Hao Zeyu, reiterating that it was unsuitable for Hao Zeyu to return to the basement, suggesting he could rent an apartment now that he had money. Hao Zeyu, however, was accustomed to living in the basement and said he didn't mind where he lived. Fu Zi's father, feeling a bit regretful about Hao Zeyu moving out, added that he could still come back for meals.
Hao Zeyu eventually moved back to his old basement. Fu Zi, despite the short distance between their places, felt a void and helped him pack. Hao Zeyu, noticing her unease and feeling she believed he had become distant, confided in her, and then jokingly suggested he rent a bigger house for them all to live in, or for Fu Zi to move in with him.
Fu Zi, however, felt this was improper, wishing only for Hao Zeyu's happiness and hoping he would use his current position to avoid taking roles he disliked. Niu Meili came looking for Hao Zeyu and was surprised to learn he had moved out of Fu Zi's home, having been "driven away" by Fu Zi's father.
She vehemently criticized Fu Zi's father for being "sensitive" and pushing them to a dead end, stating that such actions would only make Hao Zeyu and Fu Zi, who were "intimate lovers," cling to each other even more. Although Niu Meili generally did not approve of their relationship, reasoning that an actor and an ordinary person might "depart from you" down the line, she felt Fu Zi's father was being overly aggressive.
Niu Meili also felt that Hao Zeyu had become arrogant and "floating" since returning from filming with Director Wang, now avoiding Peng Yongkang. When Fu Zi's father revealed that he knew about the situation, implying it wasn't Hao Zeyu's fault, and recalling an unpleasant past collaboration, Niu Meili became furious that she, as Hao Zeyu's agent, had been kept in the dark about Peng Yongkang seeking him out, while even Fu Zi's father was aware.
Niu Meili angrily confronted Hao Zeyu in the basement, demanding to know why he had hidden his meeting with Peng Yongkang from her. Fu Zi, hearing this, was stunned. Niu Meili insisted that Hao Zeyu must accept Peng Yongkang's project, reminding him that Peng Yongkang's help was crucial for his initial success.
She also pointed out that Hao Zeyu had been back from filming for over half a month without any new work, and that his dream of being a good actor required him to accumulate more projects and deliver through his work. Hao Zeyu, however, viewed Peng Yongkang's offer as a trap, believing that repaying a favor shouldn't involve such a compromise. He countered Niu Meili, asking what if a better project came along while he was committed to Peng Yongkang's.
Having come so far, he firmly stated that he wanted to be a good actor and only desired to act in roles he genuinely liked, unwilling to compromise. Fu Zi, upset by the argument, left the room. Hao Zeyu and Niu Meili continued to debate, and Niu Meili eventually left in great displeasure. Though Niu Meili knew Hao Zeyu held no ill will towards her, she deeply resented him for his secrecy.
She later complained to Zhao Xiaobei about the matter, but Zhao Xiaobei supported Hao Zeyu's decision. He reminded Niu Meili that actors aiming for a long career needed to be steady and careful. He also warned her that once successful, some people change their agents, and even if Hao Zeyu didn't currently have such intentions, their professional relationship would inevitably "depart from you" if Niu Meili continued on her current path.
Zhao Xiaobei urged Niu Meili to adopt a long-term vision. Niu Meili, unwilling to accept this, left angrily again, walking dejectedly and feeling increasingly sad and lonely. Meanwhile, Fu Zi silently did household chores, refusing to speak to Hao Zeyu, knowing that Niu Meili felt Hao Zeyu had distanced himself from everyone, and acknowledging that it was somewhat true. Hao Zeyu, seeing Fu Zi's silence, left without a word.
He then proactively sought out Peng Yongkang, expressing a desire to see his script and to apologize. Later, Fu Zi returned home distraught, and her father recognized that she was troubled by the issues between Hao Zeyu and Niu Meili. Niu Meili, still feeling lost, encountered a street violinist. Without cash, she offered him the snacks she had just bought, and as the music began again, she listened quietly, deeply moved.
