Cui Tianqi is heartbroken after being rejected by Liang Dawei once more. Wu Fei comforts her and advises her to accept the situation, then accompanies her to the hospital for treatment, during which Cui Tianqi cuts off contact with everyone. Xiao Di and Liang Dawei are worried when they cannot reach her.
Xiao Di visits Cui Tianqi's home, using a spare key, and is shocked to find Cui Tianqi's room adorned with Liang Dawei's photos, realizing the depth of her feelings for him. Witnessing Cui Tianqi's distress, Xiao Di becomes hesitant to resume her own relationship with Liang Dawei. Meanwhile, Guan Xiao meets Xiong Kuohai at the AK club to discuss Xiao Di.
Xiong Kuohai admits he has known Xiao Di was his daughter since he rescued her from a fire, recognizing her by the necklace (or wedding ring) she wore. However, he is consumed by guilt for abandoning Xiao Di and her mother, Lu Lin, and feels unworthy to acknowledge her. Enraged by Xiong Kuohai's continued hesitation, Guan Xiao beats him. Xiong Kuohai does not resist and is injured, falling unconscious, and is subsequently hospitalized by Guan Xiao.
Xiong Kuohai recovers, and Guan Xiao, whose own time is limited, tells the recovering Xiong Kuohai that he resents him for the pain he caused Lu Lin and for his reluctance to acknowledge Xiao Di. Guan Xiao wishes to entrust Xiao Di to Xiong Kuohai before he dies, believing Xiong Kuohai, as her biological father, is the one who can truly care for her.
Xiong Kuohai explains to Guan Xiao that he is grateful for Guan Xiao's care of Lu Lin and Xiao Di but feels too unworthy and self-loathing for his past actions to act as Xiao Di's father. Despite his anger, Guan Xiao vows to create opportunities for Xiong Kuohai and Xiao Di to reconcile. Xiao Di learns of Xiong Kuohai's hospitalization and visits him.
She has also opened a box left by her mother, Lu Lin, on her 20th birthday, and read a letter detailing Lu Lin and Xiong Kuohai's past. During her conversation with Xiong Kuohai, Xiao Di acknowledges him as her father but states that she still cannot fully forgive him for abandoning her and her mother, who spent many years in sadness because of him. Xiong Kuohai, filled with guilt and regret, loves Xiao Di as his only child, despite their estranged past.
