Ever Night Season 2 Episode 10 Recap
> Ever Night Season 2 Recap
Li Qingshan urgently advised Li Zhongyi to make a swift decision, urging him to apprehend Ning Que and Sangsang to quell public outrage. However, Li Zhongyi had already discerned the ulterior motives of West Shrine and other nations; they were merely seeking a pretext to attack Tang State, and he firmly refused to compromise. Li Peiyan elaborated on the grave situation, explaining that West Shrine had completely allied with Tianqing Sect following the Yulan Festival.
Yuelun State, South Jin, the Golden Horde, and West Shrine had formed a siege around Tang State, potentially leaving them vulnerable to attacks from both sides. He added that Dahe State, though traditionally friendly, remained indecisive due to Mo Shanshan's confinement in the Hidden Boudoir. Furthermore, Long Qing, now the chief strategist for the Golden Horde, might unite with Yan State to strike Tang State's northeastern border.
Li Yu then suggested forming an alliance with Yan State, reasoning that Crown Prince Chong Ming had resided in Tang State for over a decade and had always been on good terms with her. However, Li Zhongyi rejected the idea of any alliances, asserting that in such a perilous time, no ally could be relied upon.
He emphasized that Tang State must rely solely on its own strength, reinforcing its military to demonstrate its power to crush any adversary, even West Shrine. Meanwhile, Li Manman quickly recuperated by absorbing vital energy. Seven Sense, respecting the fairness of their duel, waited for him to recover. Despite Seven Sense's efforts, he was ultimately defeated by Li Manman's mind power. Li Manman reiterated his resolve to take Ning Que and Sangsang.
Seven Sense pleaded with him to consider the fairness to humanity, questioning if he truly felt no shame in sacrificing countless lives for two individuals. Li Manman countered that the stories of the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased bringing disaster were mere legends, potentially spread by those with hidden agendas. Realizing he could not overpower Li Manman, Seven Sense declared he would seek the Chief Master of Scripture Recitation for assistance.
Later, Queen Xia Tian brought pine nuts, a taste of home, to Li Zhongyi. She understood that he would not harm Ning Que and Sangsang, as doing so would imply the same fate for her, a Saint Virgin of Demonic Cult. Li Zhongyi, deeply touched by her understanding, found solace in her presence. Princess Li Yu sought out Chao Xiaoshu, informing him that Ning Que and Sangsang were in the West Badlands.
She expressed concern that the capital's citizens might retaliate against Sangsang's parents upon learning of the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased. She requested Chao Xiaoshu to dispatch his Yulong Gang brothers to protect Zeng Jing and his wife. Chao Xiaoshu immediately sent his men to Zeng's mansion. He mused that Li Yu's actions were not merely out of loyalty to Ning Que, but a calculated move to gain favor with the Emperor, acknowledging her profound shrewdness.
However, Chao Xiaoshu confessed his disinterest in court politics, his primary concern being the Academy's and the Sage's stance on the matter. At the Academy, several disciples approached the Sage, expressing their worry for Ning Que and Sangsang, and the absence of First Brother Li Manman. They implored the Sage to recall Li Manman and ensure the safety of Ning Que and Sangsang.
The Sage, clearly exasperated, told them to stop bothering him and forbade them from interfering in the matter. In West Shrine, Xiong Chumo was informed that Ning Que and Sangsang had eluded their trackers because the golden compass had failed. He commanded Luo Kedi to lead West Shrine cavalry to the West Badlands to cooperate with Tianqing Sect. He also ordered Luo Kedi to summon High Priest of Jurisdiction Ye Hongyu to kill the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased.
He further instructed Luo Kedi to monitor Ye Hongyu, and if she showed any sign of disloyalty, she was to be executed in the West Badlands. Ye Hongyu, having received her orders, conversed with her brother, Ye Qing. He knew her mission would be difficult and advised her to follow her heart. Ye Hongyu admitted her uncertainty about the outcome of confronting Ning Que and Sangsang again, expressing regret if their story were to end.
Ye Qing reiterated that by holding her ground, her heart would guide her way. Ye Qing then visited Mo Shanshan in the Hidden Boudoir, where she was engrossed in calligraphy. He conveyed the news that Ning Que and Sangsang were alive in the West Badlands and that Ye Hongyu was pursuing them. Mo Shanshan was overjoyed to learn Ning Que was safe and expressed her confidence that Ye Hongyu would make the right choice.
She argued that the true source of disaster was not the gentle and slender Sangsang, but the evil desires within people's hearts—power, greed, slaughter, and conflict. These, she said, were not the righteous path, but rather acts committed by those who used the banner of light to conceal their wickedness. Ye Qing was visibly moved by her words. Ning Que and Sangsang ventured into Yuelun State.
Ning Que left Blacky in the mountains, planning to take Sangsang to Chaoyang City for healing. Sangsang, burdened by the recurring cold sickness, worried it signified the awakening of the Lord of the Deceased within her, fearing she would inadvertently harm Ning Que and bring disaster upon the world. Ning Que firmly reassured her, expressing unwavering faith that the Sage would cure her, allowing them to return to the Academy and live a simple, happy life.
He emphasized that if they couldn't trust their teachers and senior siblings, they would be truly alone. Suddenly, Sangsang noticed that the stone she had been sitting on had turned ice-cold, sending her into a panic. Ning Que tightly clasped her chilly hands, offering warmth and insisting she banish such dire thoughts. He swore they would face everything together, and if she were to die, he would not wish to live on. Moved to tears, Sangsang cried.
Ning Que lovingly wiped her eyes, and they packed their belongings before descending the mountain. Disguised, Ning Que and Sangsang entered Chaoyang City, the capital of Yuelun State. They noted its stark contrast to Tang State's capital, with no city walls or visible guards, and a leisurely populace. However, Ning Que soon spotted a "wanted" poster with Sangsang's image, prompting him to quickly guide her through a narrow alley.
They eventually stumbled upon an old, deserted house, which Sangsang, ironically, declared the safest place, reasoning that no one else would dare enter a "haunted house" except the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased. The yard was littered with distorted, dry bones, and crows ominously circled above. Ning Que cautiously led Sangsang inside, where a skull rested on a table, which he playfully called a "treasure for warding off evil." He swiftly tidied the room, making it their temporary home.
That night, Ning Que prepared warm water for Sangsang to soak her feet. Following Master Qi Shan's advice, Sangsang kept a scripture in hand, continuously reading. Ning Que decided to venture into the city the next day to find more scriptures for her. Before resting, he sealed the door with a paper and strategically placed the skull outside, creating an illusion of an uninhabited dwelling, hoping to deter any potential pursuers.
