Dear Mayang Street Episode 32 Recap
> Dear Mayang Street Recap
Liang Yuanchao was deeply troubled by the catastrophic failure of the pharmaceutical factory project he had persuaded his neighbors to invest in, as all their money was now lost. He felt distraught, telling his wife, Lin Jiahao, that he couldn't be rational and didn't know how he could ever compensate everyone. Lin Jiahao initially suggested they keep the truth hidden or even move away, arguing that their family was also a victim.
However, Liang Yuanchao firmly believed they needed to confess proactively to maintain their dignity in Mayang Street, fearing the shame if the truth were to be exposed by others. Despite his conviction, Lin Jiahao, feeling too embarrassed and timid to face the neighbors, tried to approach Hao Pushi but couldn't bring herself to speak.
She returned home and falsely told Liang Yuanchao that she had informed the neighbors and they hadn't blamed him, giving him a false sense of relief, though he still felt too ashamed to leave the house. Three days later, Chen Lili discovered the scam. While on her way home from work, she saw a large crowd protesting outside Hongtu Company and realized that the pharmaceutical factory project Liang Yuanchao had promoted was fraudulent.
She also found out that the money had been lost days prior and Liang Yuanchao had kept it secret, which she questioned as suspicious. Chen Lili immediately rushed to inform Aunt Niu and Hao Pushi, who were both shocked to learn about their lost investments. The three women, furious, marched to Liang Yuanchao’s home, banging on his door and demanding he come out, return their money, and threatening to call the police.
After much hesitation, Liang Yuanchao, who was on a phone call, opened the door, cutting his call short. He tried to explain that he thought Lin Jiahao had already told everyone the truth. Chen Lili accused him of being selfish and shirking responsibility, even suggesting he had taken kickbacks. Liang Yuanchao vehemently denied the kickback accusation, repeatedly apologizing and vowing to repay all their money, stating he was also a victim.
Lin Jiahao then stepped forward, admitting that she was the one who had been too timid to tell the neighbors and argued that since everyone invested voluntarily, Liang Yuanchao shouldn’t be solely blamed. Humiliated by her outburst, Liang Yuanchao slapped Lin Jiahao, telling her not to embarrass him further. As the couple broke down in tears, Aunt Niu, Chen Lili, and Hao Pushi, seeing their distress, quietly left.
That night, Liang Yuanchao reassured Lin Jiahao that even if he lost everything, he would never lose her, as she was the foundation of their family. However, the next morning, Lin Jiahao woke to find Liang Yuanchao gone. He had left with no luggage, only their family photo. Panicked, she frantically searched for him, fearing he might do something foolish. When Yi Shengli arrived, Lin Jiahao tearfully explained that Liang Yuanchao was missing.
Concerned, Yi Shengli quickly organized everyone: Sun Benyan was assigned to search for Liang Yuanchao and report his disappearance to the police, while Hao Pushi would gather other neighbors to join the search efforts. Chen Lili suggested seeking help from Ma Xiaoxiao, who worked at a law firm. Yi Shengli decided to lead a group to Hongtu Company to demand their money back. Despite being advised to stay home, Lin Jiahao insisted on joining him.
Yi Dongdong and Yi Nannan were instructed to stay home and handle affairs there. Lin Jiahao specifically asked them not to tell her son, Liang Xiaobao, about the incident, as he had just started a new job in Shanghai and she didn't want it to affect his work. At Hongtu Company, a large crowd of angry investors protested, demanding their money.
Ma Xiaoxiao, having arrived with Yi Shengli and Yi Dongdong, urged everyone to remain calm and avoid violence, explaining that it would be legally detrimental to their cause. She advocated for pursuing their rights through "civilized means" and advised them to rest, assuring them that the culprits couldn't escape. Lin Jiahao rushed upstairs to ask for updates, becoming distraught when she heard Liang Yuanchao was still missing.
Yi Shengli then sent Yi Nannan to take Lin Jiahao home, emphasizing the need for her to rest, and Lin Jiahao reiterated her plea to keep Liang Xiaobao ignorant of the situation. Inside the company, Antu, observing Ma Xiaoxiao and her group, deliberately let them enter, only to tell them that Ou Xiaojian was in a meeting and they would have to wait.
After a prolonged wait, Antu dismissively told them that Ou Xiaojian's schedule was full and they should leave. Enraged, Yi Shengli demanded to know where Ou Xiaojian was, and someone directed him to the office. Ma Xiaoxiao and Yi Dongdong tried to stop Yi Shengli, but he burst into Ou Xiaojian's office, where he found Ou Xiaojian in a seemingly intimate moment with Cheng Fang.
As Yi Shengli attempted to confront him, Antu’s men forcibly restrained Yi Shengli and Yi Dongdong. Ma Xiaoxiao re-entered the office and confronted Ou Xiaojian, demanding an explanation. Cheng Fang, visibly annoyed, instructed Ou Xiaojian to get rid of her. To protect Ma Xiaoxiao and maintain his undercover operation, Ou Xiaojian harshly told her to "get out now" and "get away," splashing water on her face and reminding her that they had broken up.
Yi Shengli and Yi Dongdong were then forcefully removed from the building. Later, back in Mayang Street, Yi Shengli angrily recounted the events, calling Ou Xiaojian a "white-eyed wolf." He informed everyone that Ou Xiaojian was the boss of Hongtu Company and mistakenly concluded that Ou Xiaojian had masterminded the entire scam. The neighbors reacted with outrage, condemning Ou Xiaojian as ungrateful and demanding his immediate arrest by the police.
Liang Yuanchao was eventually found by the police, having been rescued after attempting to jump into a river. The officers brought him home, advising his family to provide continuous emotional support to prevent further desperate acts. Meanwhile, Ou Xiaojian met with Li Zhaohang, confirming that he was on an undercover mission, diligently collecting criminal evidence against Cheng Fang and her associates.
He explained that his harsh treatment of Ma Xiaoxiao and the Mayang Street residents was a necessary measure to protect them and prevent Antu from using his connections as a vulnerability. Li Zhaohang then took Ou Xiaojian to a small, secluded, and safe hideout that he had used in the past, supplying him with essentials and operational documents.
He urged Ou Xiaojian to remain calm and patient during this "critical moment," emphasizing the need for extreme caution and instructing him to communicate via beeper. Ou Xiaojian, in a moment of quiet reflection, returned to his Little Hong Kong apartment, gazing at a photo of his late Grandma Ou, and felt a profound sadness at how much everything had changed. Ma Xiaoxiao, still reeling from Ou Xiaojian's public rejection and cold words, later encountered him downstairs.
When she confronted him, he offered no explanation. She told him that his deception of her was not important, but his betrayal of the entire Mayang Street community, the aunts and uncles who had watched them grow up and who had even supported them during his grandmother's funeral, was unforgivable. She passionately implored him not to harm the people of Mayang Street or anyone who had genuinely cared for him, referencing their stolen "hard-earned money."
During a subsequent company meeting with Cheng Fang and Antu, Ou Xiaojian confronted Antu about the escalating public outcry over the illegal fund-raising. Antu, in turn, contemptuously accused Ou Xiaojian of orchestrating the protests himself and questioned the authority of the police. Cheng Fang intervened, asserting that she had approved the fund-raising decision and that further inquiries into the reasons were unnecessary.
She then supported Ou Xiaojian's proposal to initiate preparations for an immediate withdrawal to mitigate further damage, advising them to remember that "as long as the green mountains remain, there will always be wood to burn," signifying the importance of preserving their assets for future endeavors. Antu again objected to sharing such sensitive information with Ou Xiaojian, but Cheng Fang silenced him, reaffirming her trust in her core team members and demanding their loyalty.
