Dear Mayang Street Episode 30 Recap
> Dear Mayang Street Recap
The residents of Mayang Street gathered to mourn Grandma Ou, whose sudden passing left everyone in shock and disbelief. Neighbors recalled her warmth, with one remarking on her health just recently and another remembering how Grandma Ou had helped him during his most difficult time by letting him manage half her store. Sun Falcon had to leave early for an urgent overtime shift at the TV station after paying his respects.
Many lamented that Ou Xiaojian was not by Grandma Ou's side when she passed, as he was incarcerated and Little Hong Kong was shut down. Aunt Niu urged Ma Xiaoxiao to do everything possible to bail Ou Xiaojian out so he could attend to Grandma Ou's funeral, emphasizing that a close relative should handle the arrangements. Ma Xiaoxiao promptly contacted a criminal lawyer from her firm.
The lawyer initially stated that the case was difficult, but after Ma Xiaoxiao's earnest plea, explaining that Ou Xiaojian's grandmother had passed away and he needed to be present for the burial, the lawyer agreed to guide her on preparing the necessary documents, which would then be submitted under the law firm's name. Ma Xiaoxiao gathered the bail documents and went to the police station. However, she was informed that Ou Xiaojian had already been released.
Meanwhile, Li Zhaohang had visited Ou Xiaojian in jail, telling him that Little Hong Kong was being investigated for selling smuggled goods, with all evidence, including delivery slips and products, pointing to him. Ou Xiaojian vehemently denied the charges, asserting that all items sold at Little Hong Kong were genuine and that he was being framed.
Li Zhaohang, who had been secretly monitoring Ou Xiaojian since their previous encounter, assured him of his trust and revealed he had already begun investigating the anonymous tip-off. He also informed Ou Xiaojian about Grandma Ou's death, telling him he needed to be mentally prepared. Li Zhaohang then proceeded to bail Ou Xiaojian out. Upon returning to Little Hong Kong, Ou Xiaojian found the main entrance sealed by the police and the store empty.
He called out for Grandma Ou multiple times. Big fat and others came downstairs, and it was then that Ou Xiaojian fully understood Grandma Ou was gone. He collapsed in tears before her photo, overcome with grief. Later, Hao Pushi prepared a dinner for everyone, but the atmosphere was somber due to Grandma Ou's death.
Yi Shengli, having rushed back from Shenzhen upon hearing the news, reflected on the suddenness of her passing, recalling how kind Grandma Ou was to everyone on the street, like a mother. Ma Xiaoxiao, worried about Ou Xiaojian, chose not to eat, going to his room instead.
She tried to talk to him through the closed door, reminding him of a poem from their "A Tale of Two Cities" book and expressing her belief that he hadn't changed, still being the honest, kind, and brave Ou Xiaojian she knew. She asked him to let her in, but when he didn't respond, she quietly left, understanding he needed to be alone. She sat in the courtyard, watching his window.
During dinner, Liang Yuanchao proudly displayed his newly acquired "Big Brother" mobile phone, a status symbol for businessmen from Hong Kong. Aunt Niu inquired about Yi Shengli's logistics company in Shenzhen, to which Yi Shengli happily replied that Shenzhen was a land of opportunity, where the logistics industry was rapidly developing. He planned to expand his company to earn enough money to buy a house for Yi Dongdong's future marriage.
Liang Yuanchao, however, suggested investing in a pharmaceutical factory, touting it as a venture with immediate and substantial returns. Hao Pushi and Aunt Niu were very interested and, believing Liang Yuanchao, decided to invest. That night, Yi Dongdong, seeing Ma Xiaoxiao asleep under a tree, carefully positioned his hand under her head to cushion it, staying with her throughout the night. In the morning, Ou Xiaojian emerged and gently draped his jacket over Ma Xiaoxiao.
Waking up, Ma Xiaoxiao was touched by Yi Dongdong's gesture. Grandma Ou's death had profoundly enraged Ou Xiaojian, solidifying his resolve to take revenge and eliminate the roots of all evil using his own methods. Ou Xiaojian began investigating the ledgers and discovered that Big fat had, without malicious intent, switched to a problematic supplier because the new source offered cheaper goods. Ou Xiaojian, furious, told Big fat to go home and stop making foolish decisions.
Seeking answers, Ou Xiaojian confronted Antu, accusing him of framing Little Hong Kong and causing his grandmother's death. Antu, the twin brother of An Ye and part of Cheng Fang's operation, revealed that his brother, An Ye, had previously offered Ou Xiaojian an opportunity to join them, which Ou Xiaojian had refused. The confrontation escalated, with Ou Xiaojian threatening Antu, determined to make him pay for Grandma Ou's death.
Antu tried to stab Ou Xiaojian with a knife, but Cheng Fang intervened, stopping him. Ou Xiaojian returned to his room covered in injuries. Ma Xiaoxiao, deeply concerned, rushed to help him. As she tended to his wounds, Ou Xiaojian, overwhelmed, embraced her and then fainted. Shortly after, police officers arrived at Ou Xiaojian's residence to inform him that his substantial fine had been paid by someone else. Ma Xiaoxiao later deduced it was Cheng Fang.
When Ma Xiaoxiao spoke with her sister, Ma Dada, who had just returned from a performance without removing her theatrical makeup, Ma Dada mentioned that their father had complained about Ma Xiaoxiao spending all her time with Ou Xiaojian. Ma Dada also shared that Sun Falcon had seen Ou Xiaojian at the cemetery, implying he had been staying there for days.
Ma Xiaoxiao confessed to Ma Dada that she hadn't thought about her future with Ou Xiaojian, feeling that simply being with him in the present was a luxury. She admitted to feeling constantly anxious, like her heart was "always hanging," and that she felt their paths diverging, yet she did not want to break up.
Ou Xiaojian confided in Li Zhaohang, revealing that Little Hong Kong's troubles were orchestrated by Antu, and that Cheng Fang, the true power behind Antu and An Ye (who were twin brothers, An Ye being cunning and Antu volatile), had paid his fine, likely hoping to use him to control the twins. Ou Xiaojian, driven by a desire for revenge and to clear his grandmother's name, decided to seize this opportunity.
He also implored Li Zhaohang to protect Ma Xiaoxiao and ensure she was not involved. He planned to infiltrate Cheng Fang's Hongtu company to uncover their overseas fund transfer channels and gather concrete evidence of their smuggling activities, a plan Li Zhaohang fully supported. Later, Ma Xiaoxiao, still worried, followed Ou Xiaojian to a club where he met with Cheng Fang. Ou Xiaojian directly asked Cheng Fang if she had paid his fine, stating he would repay her.
Cheng Fang dismissed his offer, explaining that she never asked for repayment on money she chose to spend. Ou Xiaojian, in turn, stated he never used a woman's money. Cheng Fang then challenged him on how he would repay the substantial amount given his business was closed. Ou Xiaojian then requested her guidance on how to make money. Cheng Fang offered him a position in her company, which Ou Xiaojian accepted without hesitation. Cheng Fang, pleased by his decisive nature, raised a toast.
