Dear Mayang Street Episode 2 Recap
> Dear Mayang Street Recap
The new semester was approaching, and Mayang Street organized a basketball game to help everyone relax. Hao Pushi was initially concerned that her children, Yi Dongdong, Yi Nannan, and Yi Qianqian, wouldn't keep up with the new term's curriculum, urging them to study. However, after speaking with Chen Lili and Aunt Niu, who suggested a balance of work and rest, Hao Pushi agreed to let the children watch the game, reminding them to stay safe.
Earlier, Grandma Zeng had encouraged Zeng Hao to be kinder to the Yi siblings, so Zeng Hao proactively offered soda to Yi Dongdong at the basketball court. During the game, Liang Xiaobao was injured after being kicked by a player from Shangyang Street. Sun Falcon became furious and demanded Zeng Xing replace him on the court. Zeng Xing, however, declined, remarking that "success or failure is a common thing" in competition.
With Mayang Street facing defeat and no one else willing to play, Yi Dongdong and Yi Nannan bravely stepped forward, ultimately securing a victory for their team. Ou Xiaojian, having heard about the commotion, rushed to the court, only to find the Mayang Street team had already won. He encountered Ma Xiaoxiao and their friends, and Ma Xiaoxiao was visibly displeased, feeling that Ou Xiaojian no longer wished to associate with their group.
She recalled how his personality had changed after his father's incident, leading him to get into fights with people like Brother Hong. Concerned, she had tried to reason with him, but Ou Xiaojian told her to stay out of his affairs, admitting that he looked down on himself and didn't want her intervention. From that day on, Ma Xiaoxiao remained distant from him. Meanwhile, Yi Dongdong heard Ou Xiaojian's name for the first time and was curious about him.
Having been dismissed from the police station, Ou Xiaojian had returned to work at the Mayang Street repair shop, also helping his grandmother at her small store. Feeling that her previous temper had been unwarranted, Ma Xiaoxiao prepared some old review materials for Ou Xiaojian, hoping he could use them for self-study. She decided to wait for him under the big banyan tree until nine o'clock that evening.
However, that night, during heavy rain, Huang Mao and his gang arrived at the repair shop, creating trouble and threatening Ou Xiaojian's grandmother's shop. Ou Xiaojian fought them off, declaring that "Mayang Street, I have the final say," before hurrying to his appointment.
Unbeknownst to him, Zeng Xing had gone to Ma Xiaoxiao's house, ostensibly to deliver English reference books, and subtly informed Aunt Niu that Ma Xiaoxiao and Ou Xiaojian, after an argument earlier, had planned to meet under the banyan tree that night. Concerned about Ou Xiaojian's current behavior, Aunt Niu rushed to the banyan tree, where she found Ma Xiaoxiao waiting.
She told Ma Xiaoxiao that Ou Xiaojian had changed and urged her to distance herself from him, emphasizing that Ma Xiaoxiao was the family's hope and couldn't afford to make mistakes. Aunt Niu then took Ma Xiaoxiao home, leaving the study materials soaked in the rain. Later that night, Yi Dongdong, unable to sleep, heard strange dripping sounds from the bathroom. He followed the sound to the attic, where he discovered blood seeping through the tiles.
Terrified, he found Ou Xiaojian, injured and bleeding from a head wound, presumably from the ambush. Yi Dongdong quickly carried him to the clinic's emergency room, despite being a stranger to Ou Xiaojian. As Ou Xiaojian endured his headache, his mind drifted back to when he was eight years old. He remembered his father being taken away, leaving him and his grandmother alone.
His father had given him a national emblem, telling him to look at it whenever he missed him. At the clinic, when asked about his relationship to the injured man, Yi Dongdong, still shaken, claimed not to know him. Still unsettled, Yi Dongdong went to the bathhouse to wash the blood from his clothes, struggling with his thoughts about what to do next.
On his way home, he unexpectedly encountered Sun Falcon, who was also out late, and they exchanged a surprised glance. The next morning, Yi Dongdong woke up, still contemplating whether to report the incident to the police. Meanwhile, Chen Lili bought breakfast for Sun Falcon, entering his room without knocking to find him exercising shirtless. He asked for privacy, but she brushed it off, reminding him that she knew him since he was in her womb.
As the new school term began, students arrived for registration. Sun Falcon and Liang Xiaobao were seen discussing the new seating chart, which was based on last semester's grades. The new homeroom teacher, Teacher Su, addressed the class, acknowledging that grades don't define everything but emphasizing that consistently low scores indicate an ability issue.
She stressed the importance of academic performance for their upcoming college entrance exams, calling it a "single-plank bridge for thousands of soldiers," and stating that desirable front-row seats must be earned through hard work and achievement. During the assembly, Yi Dongdong noticed Ma Xiaoxiao was not with them on the ground. She was on stage, speaking as the student representative, being introduced as "Mayang Street's number one top student."
Following her, Zeng Xing, "Mayang Street's number two top student," also gave a speech. Sun Falcon almost blurted out that there was an even more legendary top student, "Ou Xiao. . ." but was quickly silenced. Zeng Xing's speech focused on studying as the primary task, citing Harvard University. Later, Yi Nannan confronted Yi Dongdong about his whereabouts last night, but Yi Dongdong quickly concocted an excuse about taking a shower, and Yi Nannan agreed to keep it a secret. A narrator reflected that their high school life began in 1984, bringing together the friends from Mayang Street, who would become the most important people in their lives.
