A Fei confronted Ou Xiaojian, suspecting him of betraying him. He questioned how the batch of goods Ou Xiaojian handled could have sold so well, and why the accounts didn't match, suggesting Ou Xiaojian was working behind his back or was a police spy. A Fei issued a warning. Ou Xiaojian confidently replied that he always kept his word and would sell the goods properly, emphasizing he had his own sales channels.

Under A Fei's persistent questioning, Ou Xiaojian revealed his selling methods. Impressed by Ou Xiaojian's cleverness, A Fei regained his trust, expressed his high regard for him, and urged him not to disappoint. Subsequently, Ma skin approached Ou Xiaojian to thank him, confessing that he himself had misappropriated funds, which was the real reason for the accounting discrepancy. Ou Xiaojian confided in Grandma Ou, expressing his desire to go to Beijing once his current engagement was over.

Grandma Ou, worried about his present activities, asked when he would return to help at the goods store. Ou Xiaojian then told her of his plans to quit his job at the repair shop and asked if she would consider moving to Beijing with him.

Grandma Ou initially feared he had gotten into trouble again, but Ou Xiaojian quickly explained that a friend had helped him find a stable, formal job in Beijing, where he intended to settle for a couple of years before returning to Guangzhou. Reassured, Grandma Ou only wished for his peace and safety, stating that she would wait for him in Mayang Street. On the day of the Gaokao, the neighbors in Mayang Street showed their support for the students.

Sun Falcon left with eggs prepared by Chen Lili. Hao Pushi personally walked Yi Dongdong to the exam center, offering words of encouragement. Ma Xiaoxiao's family expressed their immense hope and cheered her on. Ou Xiaojian also came out to wish Ma Xiaoxiao good luck, and she headed to the exam with confidence. After the exam, the friends gathered to compare answers. While some were happy, others were distressed.

Sun Falcon and Zeng Hao, feeling overwhelmed, were given the answer sheets to check at home. Ma Xiaoxiao returned home to find Aunt Niu in tears, having lost 2,000 yuan gambling on a bid. Aunt Niu explained that a neighbor, Chen, had introduced her to a man named A tian, who had previously offered good investment opportunities. However, this time she lost everything.

Ma Xiaoxiao angrily reprimanded her for investing such a large sum of money in an unsafe venture, especially after being taught that there are no free lunches. Incensed, Ma Xiaoxiao marched directly to the gambling den to demand the money back from A tian. As Ma Xiaoxiao entered the gambling den, she was surprised to find Ou Xiaojian playing mahjong with the very group she was confronting. Concerned for her safety, Ou Xiaojian quickly pulled her aside.

Ma Xiaoxiao explained Aunt Niu's plight, and Ou Xiaojian assured her that he would handle it. Ou Xiaojian then confronted A tian, demanding Aunt Niu's money back. He sternly warned A tian not to conduct any more bid releases in Mayang Street, threatening severe consequences if he did. A tian promptly returned the money, which Ou Xiaojian handed to Ma Xiaoxiao.

They shared a brief, encouraging conversation, with Ma Xiaoxiao reaffirming her belief that he would eventually return to the right path. The Gaokao results were finally released. Ma Xiaoxiao achieved the third-highest score in liberal arts across the entire province, which was also Yucai Middle School's best performance in five years, allowing her to choose her desired university major.

Yi Dongdong also succeeded, scoring just one point above the college admission threshold, which meant he could apply to universities in Beijing. Zeng Hao was also admitted to a university, and while Sun Falcon only got into a vocational college, everyone was relieved that he wouldn't have to repeat his studies. Ma Yingjun decided to host a celebratory dinner for Ma Xiaoxiao.

During the meal, Aunt Niu commented that a girl being too outstanding might make it difficult to find a partner, a sentiment Ma Xiaoxiao quickly countered. Amidst the celebration, family members also discussed Ou Xiaojian's recent positive changes. Aunt Niu clarified that it was Ou Xiaojian who had helped retrieve her gambling money. Others added that Grandma Ou was overjoyed because Ou Xiaojian had quit his job at the repair shop, which she always considered a dangerous place.

It was further revealed that Ou Xiaojian was behind the expansion of Grandma Ou's goods store into a larger 'Little Hong Kong' and had invited them to its upcoming grand opening. This news led everyone to believe that Ou Xiaojian was finally choosing the right path. Meanwhile, Chen Lili, aware of Sun Falcon's interest in photography, bought him a camera as a reward.

Yi Dongdong then suggested that they all go to Yuexiu Park for a group photoshoot, secretly hoping for a chance to take a picture with Ma Xiaoxiao. However, during the outing, Ma Xiaoxiao spent most of her time chatting with Ou Xiaojian, leaving Yi Dongdong feeling disappointed. Sun Falcon also showed off his new camera and enlarger to Ou Xiaojian, pleased that he no longer needed to borrow one.

However, the celebratory mood was shattered when news spread that someone had anonymously reported Ma Xiaoxiao for cheating on the Gaokao, sending a letter directly to the Academic Affairs Office. The school informed Ma Xiaoxiao that she needed to provide evidence of her innocence before filling out her university applications, otherwise her Gaokao scores would be invalidated, potentially barring her from taking the exam for the next three years.

Ma Xiaoxiao was furious, vehemently denying the accusations and stating she had no idea who would orchestrate such a thing or what "evidence" they might possess. Her friends and family were equally distressed, believing she was being framed.
