Following the splashing incident, Lu Xian quickly comes to Shi Shuangjiao's aid, insisting on taking her away to get cleaned up. Gu Renqi asserts that as her leader, he will seek justice for his employee and that an outsider like Lu Xian need not interfere. Lu Xian, frustrated, argues that delaying only makes Shuangjiao more uncomfortable.
After helping Shuangjiao dry her hair and ensuring she drinks ginger soup, Lu Xian cautions her about Gu Renqi, calling him "abnormal" and advising her to limit contact with him. Shuangjiao defends her boss, noting Lu Xian has only met him a few times. Gu Renqi soon returns with new clothes for Shuangjiao, declaring them compensation for a work injury. This sparks another terse exchange between the two men, both insisting the other should leave, before they finally depart together.
Gu Renqi has chosen a white dress for Shuangjiao, leaving a note that the color suits her and a warning not to get it dirty. The next morning, Shuangjiao arrives at work in the pristine dress. Lu Xian initially praises its beauty, but upon learning Gu Renqi bought it, he quickly dismisses the dress as "just so-so," asserting that Shuangjiao herself is far prettier. Hu You is captivated, calling her a "hidden flower" he'd never noticed before.
Li Dongxian, however, prefers her previous flowered dress and advises her to improve her aesthetic sense. When Gu Renqi sees Shuangjiao, he notices a loose thread on her neck and gently removes it. Later, he has Li Dongxian buy him bone soup from a specific shop but is repulsed by the smell, wondering if his adverse reactions are now specific only to things "not" associated with Shuangjiao.
When Shuangjiao returns his borrowed clothes, freshly washed and ironed, he not only accepts them but also wears the shirt. Shortly after, Shuangjiao requests leave to "meet a very important person." Gu Renqi, who had hoped she was about to ask him out, is dismayed and mutters to himself about being "foolishly sentimental." Shuangjiao's "very important person" is her mother; she is visiting her grave on her birthday with her favorite chestnut cake.
She confides in her mother about her father's improving health, Shi Junjie's upcoming college entrance exam, and her own anxieties about her department potentially being dissolved. Elsewhere, Shi Junjie waits for Zhu Yan outside her home, seeking comfort. Later, at Shuangjiao’s house, Lu Xian helps her retrieve an item from a high shelf, joking about her height.
This simple act triggers an epiphany for Shuangjiao: her difficult client, the former tennis player Li Chao, is in a wheelchair, and his frustration likely stems from objects being placed inconveniently out of his reach. Energized, she rushes back to the company, where Uncle Jin praises her insightful solution. Gu Renqi, about to leave, spots her returning and quickly retreats to his office. There, he takes her water cup to test if he is now "immune" to others' belongings.
He drinks from it without issue and takes it home. That evening, Gu Renqi's mother visits unexpectedly and casually drinks from the cup Shuangjiao used. She insists he watch a program featuring Wang Qianqian, where an expert discusses the psychology of love. The expert explains that being in love can impair judgment, make one cherish the beloved's trivial belongings, and lead to contradictory behavior—acting dismissive in person while secretly missing them and changing one's own habits.
Gu Renqi dismisses it all as "nonsense," but his uncomfortable reactions suggest otherwise. Meanwhile, Shi Junjie, suffering from "pre-exam syndrome," confides his feelings of uselessness to Zhu Yan. When the power goes out, he expertly fixes the lights, and Zhu Yan sees him in a new, admirable light. The next morning, as Zhu Yan drives a nervous Junjie to his exam, he asks for a "lucky charm."
She gives him a comforting hug, which he calls his "talisman," leaving her with a new, profound feeling. Believing she has the perfect solution for Li Chao, Shuangjiao presents him with a detailed cleaning plan tailored to his needs. However, Li Chao furiously rejects it, accusing her of pity and telling her to get out. His refusal results in a formal complaint against the cleaning department, worrying her colleagues that it will hasten their department's elimination.
Shuangjiao takes full responsibility and promises to explain everything to Gu Renqi. While cleaning the office, she overhears Li Dongxian telling Gu Renqi that, based on the TV program's signs, he has fallen for Shuangjiao. Gu Renqi vehemently denies it, claiming he only watches her to find faults and fire her, asserting she joined the company with "impure motives." Unable to listen anymore, Shuangjiao stands up and confronts him directly, asking if he truly wants to fire her that badly.
