Lu Yi confessed his fear that Yuan Jinxia, given her character, would not hate him, but would instead blame fate and herself, a thought he found unbearable. They planned to depart the following morning. Lu Ting's health showed no improvement, prompting Lu Yi to personally bring him medicine. She presented him with the handkerchief she had painstakingly embroidered, apologizing for its amateur appearance. Lu Yi, maintaining a cold demeanor, rejected the gift and dismissively told her he had no time for her. When she questioned his behavior, he harshly declared that she should know her place, asserting that her identity would bring shame to the Lu family. Trembling, she realized she had misjudged him and their bond, feeling her heart had been misguided. She dropped the handkerchief and walked away. Lu Yi quietly picked it up, internally apologizing and believing his actions were necessary to protect her. Heartbroken, Yuan Jinxia sought solace in drinking heavily with Yang Yue, who struggled to restrain her.

She begged Yang Yue to let her drink more, hoping to forget Lu Yi and his cruel words. Yang Yue reluctantly complied, then carried her drunken body home. Lin Ling prepared sobering soup for Yuan Jinxia, who expressed her deep desire to forget Lu Yi. Lin Ling compassionately told her that while she could make her sober up, she could not make her forget; that was a burden Yuan Jinxia had to bear herself. Lin Ling suggested a possible misunderstanding and encouraged Yuan Jinxia to talk to Lu Yi, but Yuan Jinxia firmly refused, stating there was nothing left to discuss.
