Thousand Years For You Episode 34 Recap
> Thousand Years For You Recap
Lu Yan carefully examined Dengdeng’s condition, revealing that her shadow was growing increasingly faint and nearly half of her vital energy, blood, and veins were depleted. He noted that even his continuous replenishment of energy would soon prove insufficient. Faced with this grim reality, Lu Yan resolved to sacrifice his own energy core to save her. Witnessing his decision, Xin was overcome with self-reproach and sorrow.
Xin desperately pleaded with Lu Yan to reconsider, worried about the immense sacrifice and the burden it would place on Dengdeng. However, Lu Yan's determination was unwavering. He reminded Xin that Yun Xi had once given him her energy core, and he would not stand by as she suffered again.
He stated that this matter concerned the safety of the world, a belief he and Yun Xi had upheld for three thousand years, and thus, either Dengdeng or he must make the ultimate sacrifice. Xin, though heartbroken, ultimately yielded to Lu Yan’s resolve. Unbeknownst to Lu Yan, Dengdeng was privately grappling with her worsening health and terrifying nightmares.
Confiding only in her rooster, Dahong, she spoke of the Black Saintess’s resurgence and how Wei Du’s prophecies of shadows ruling the land were coming true. Dengdeng confessed her fear, as people she dreamt of dying would indeed perish the next day, making her question if she or the Black Saintess was responsible.
With her own shadow fading and recent attacks from the Black Saintess, Dengdeng made a secret decision to sacrifice herself, believing that if she died, the Black Saintess could not survive. She worried that if Lu Yan knew, he would try to save her by sacrificing his energy core, a fate she wanted to prevent. Therefore, she resolved to spend her remaining days happily with her loved ones, particularly Lu Yan, without revealing her true intentions.
She felt deeply sorry for them, knowing they would be sad, but felt she had no choice. One evening, as Dengdeng stood lost in thought, Lu Yan approached her and gently draped a coat over her shoulders. She shared with him her reflections after seeing Bai Shiqi and Gu Beixi’s joyful reunion, a moment that made her understand the feeling of "getting back what was lost."
She wished them future happiness, noting Gu Beixi’s hidden affection for Miss Bai despite his stubborn exterior. Sensing her unspoken desire for a more formal union, Lu Yan asked, "Let's get married." Dengdeng, startled but delighted that he had discerned her thoughts, playfully accused him of eavesdropping. Lu Yan confessed that he knew her heart. As they gazed at a shooting star, they made wishes.
Dengdeng remarked on the meteor's fleeting beauty, to which Lu Yan replied that brief things often possess the most splendor, suggesting they cherish the moment. She then affectionately traced his features, admiring his handsome eyebrows, eyes, nose, and mouth, playfully declaring him "handsome everywhere" as the man she had chosen. With a flourish, Lu Yan conjured a shower of albizia flowers, explaining their significance in Shu as symbols of enduring love and marital bliss, echoing his parents' lifelong devotion.
He then formally proposed to Dengdeng, saying, "It's been a thousand years since we met in ancient times. It's a blessing that you like me in this life. You know my love. Please be my wife. Dengdeng, from now on, I, Lu Yan, am willing to accompany you as your husband. Will you marry me?" Tears of joy streamed down Dengdeng's face as she cried, "Yes!" and embraced him tightly amidst the blooming albizia.
The next day, Dengdeng informed Paralyzed Yu and Lv Er of her decision to marry Lu Yan again, officially, the day after tomorrow. Both fathers were initially outraged by the haste and lack of consultation. Lv Er, despite some initial objections about the rushed timing, eventually supported the idea, suggesting a wedding might bring good luck after Dengdeng’s recent fright. Paralyzed Yu, however, remained vehemently opposed, accusing Lu Yan of being too presumptive.
Dengdeng affectionately defended Lu Yan, teasing her father about his own courtship and playfully calling Lu Yan a valuable "antique" hero, just as he was Ancient Shu’s great general. She earnestly expressed her deep love, confessing her lifelong dream of wearing an embroidered red wedding dress and being married to her hero, a dream Lu Yan fulfilled. Moved by her sincerity and Lv Er's emotional reaction, Paralyzed Yu finally relented. Later, Paralyzed Yu spoke privately with Lu Yan.
He recounted Dengdeng’s childhood without her mother and his initial dislike of Lu Yan, fearing he would take her away. However, after observing Lu Yan, he now considered him a man worthy of entrusting Dengdeng’s life to. Paralyzed Yu blessed their union, asking Lu Yan to promise never to hurt Dengdeng and to tell him if his love ever faded, so he could bring his daughter home. Lu Yan solemnly vowed to protect Dengdeng with his life.
Meanwhile, Lv Er, observing the persistently cloudy sky, worried it was a bad omen, but Dengdeng dismissed his concerns. She later told Xin that she planned a surprise for Lu Yan at the wedding, asking him to ensure Lu Yan was prepared. Xin, still sad but committed, promised to prepare the most beautiful bridal sedan and encourage Lu Yan to be more expressive. Meanwhile, Gu Beixi attempted to help Bai Shiqi, but she maintained her distance.
Bai Shiqi explained that she felt his kindness stemmed from guilt over her family's past and that she didn't want to misunderstand his feelings, preferring they remain just friends. Later, Bai Shiqi delivered a package of makeup to Dengdeng, playfully sending Gu Beixi away, calling it a "girls' secret."
Lu Yan presented the stronghold with lavish betrothal gifts, including livestock, fertile land, gold, as well as provisions for a school and a clinic in Qingquan Mountain, demonstrating his deep vision for the village's future prosperity, education, and health. Paralyzed Yu and the other villagers were deeply impressed by Lu Yan's thoughtful and generous offerings. Dengdeng, touched by Lu Yan's efforts, thanked him for doing so much for her.
He simply replied that it was his duty, having no personal need for such wealth. Dengdeng then put on a magnificent embroidered red wedding dress, looking so radiant that she felt it made her truly appear as a wife beside her husband. After the ceremony, Dengdeng suggested they all go shopping for clothes down the mountain. Gu Beixi, noticing Lu Yan and Dengdeng's affectionate behavior, decided to take Bai Shiqi elsewhere, promising her a surprise.
