As Jin Guangyao found himself impaled by Lan Xichen’s sword, Lan Xichen sternly reminded him that he had promised to show no mercy if Jin Guangyao made another move. Jin Guangyao, however, denied taking any action, accusing Nie Huaisang of manipulating the situation. In agony, Jin Guangyao stared at Nie Huaisang, realizing he had been cunningly trapped by someone who expertly feigned ignorance, calling him out for his years of hidden deception.

Nie Huaisang, still appearing innocent, insisted to Lan Xichen that he had indeed seen Jin Guangyao reaching behind his back. As Lan Xichen grappled with doubt, Jin Guangyao, with tears in his eyes, confessed to countless lies and harmful deeds throughout his life but vehemently denied ever intending to harm Lan Xichen. He reminded Lan Xichen that it was he who saved him when Cloud Recesses was burnt down and later wholeheartedly assisted the Gusu Lan clan in its reconstruction.

He questioned if he had ever tried to suppress the Lan clan over the years, or if he had ever wronged him, save for the recent suppression of Lan Xichen’s spiritual power. Jin Guangyao lamented that Lan Xichen, like Nie Mingjue, could not tolerate him and now refused to grant him a way out.

With blood staining his hands from the sword he still clutched, Jin Guangyao declared that since Lan Xichen would not let him live, they would perish together. Suddenly, Jin Guangyao tightened his grip on Lan Xichen’s shoulder, pulling them both towards Nie Mingjue’s coffin. As Jin Guangyao’s blood seeped into the coffin, it began to shake violently, causing the Guanyin Temple to tremble and objects to fall, signaling an imminent collapse.

As others frantically fled, Jin Guangyao, with a pained smile, invited Lan Xichen to die with him. Lan Xichen hesitated, unable to deliver the killing blow, resigned to their shared fate. Yet, in a final, unexpected act, Jin Guangyao forcefully pushed Lan Xichen away, choosing to be buried alone with Nie Mingjue’s coffin in the collapsing ruins. Having narrowly escaped, Lan Xichen sat solemnly outside the crumbling temple, his mind clouded with sorrow.

He mused on his past understanding of Jin Guangyao, admitting he thought he knew him, then realizing he didn't, and after a brief period of renewed understanding, now felt utterly lost again. Nie Huaisang, sitting beside him, offered a placating remark that no one could truly comprehend another person. Lan Xichen slowly turned to him, questioning if Nie Huaisang had truly seen Jin Guangyao attempting to attack him from behind.

Nie Huaisang, with a hint of something unreadable in his eyes, maintained his usual evasiveness, stating that he couldn't be certain. With Jin Guangyao’s death, the last of the sacrificial scars on Wei Wuxian's arm disappeared. He and Lan Wangji prepared to depart with Lil' Apple. Back in the temple, Jin Ling, unable to find Wei Wuxian, learned from Jiang Cheng that Wei Wuxian had already left.

Jin Ling childishly chastised his uncle for not trying to make Wei Wuxian stay. Jiang Cheng feigned a move to strike Jin Ling, telling him to return home. Jin Ling persisted, asking if Jiang Cheng had something he wanted to say to Wei Wuxian, but Jiang Cheng simply shook his head.

Jiang Cheng silently recalled a painful memory from their youth: during their escape from Wen clan cultivators, he had deliberately lured the pursuers away from Wei Wuxian, resulting in his capture and the loss of his golden core. Just as Wei Wuxian could not bring himself to tell Jiang Cheng the truth about giving him his golden core back then, Jiang Cheng knew he could not voice his unspoken farewells now.

He could only silently wish Wei Wuxian to take care. As Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji continued on their way with Lil’ Apple, Sizhui and Wen Ning unexpectedly caught up. Sizhui, having recently begun to recall fragmented memories, confessed his uncertainty and sought clarity from them.

He described bewildering recollections: of being planted in the ground like a radish by Wei Wuxian, who claimed it would make him grow taller and sprout little friends, and of Wei Wuxian boasting about his cooking skills, only to make eye-blinding and awful-tasting dishes. He remembered Wei Wuxian inviting Lan Wangji to a meal only to run off without paying, leaving Lan Wangji to foot the bill. Most crucially, Sizhui remembered his surname used to be Wen.

Wei Wuxian, at first surprised, then ecstatic, and finally disbelieving, struggled to process the revelation, as he had long believed Wen Yuan had perished. It was Lan Wangji who confirmed that this was the truth he had kept hidden: Sizhui was indeed Wen Yuan. Sizhui, overwhelmed with emotion, tearfully embraced Wei Wuxian, both laughing and crying.

Wei Wuxian playfully recounted how he had taught Sizhui certain things, which Lan Wangji quickly dismissed as nonsense, leading to lighthearted banter, with Wen Ning playfully corroborating some of Wei Wuxian’s claims. Wen Ning then informed Wei Wuxian of his and Sizhui's plans: they would journey to Qishan to erect a cenotaph for their fallen clan members. Afterward, he would escort Sizhui back to Cloud Recesses.

Wen Ning stated his intention to forge his own path from then on, seeking an independent and free life, and would no longer follow Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian expressed his happiness for Wen Ning, wishing him a future free from worry. After bidding farewell to Sizhui and Wen Ning, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji returned to Cloud Recesses. Lan Wangji had taken on the immense responsibility of the Excellency. There, they encountered Nie Huaisang once more.

Wei Wuxian, who had long suspected Nie Huaisang of orchestrating the recent events from behind the scenes, pointedly asked him, after all his elaborate schemes, if he had no desire to become the Excellency himself. Nie Huaisang calmly fanned himself, gazing into the distance. He declared himself a sensible man: he would never shirk responsibilities that were his, but he would also never attempt to do what was not meant for him. With that, Nie Huaisang strolled away.

Wei Wuxian saw no need to press him further, concluding that since everything was over, more questions would be pointless. Embracing his free-spirited nature, Wei Wuxian decided to wander the world, making his home wherever he roamed. He began to bid farewell to Lan Wangji, suggesting they would meet again someday. As Wei Wuxian started to walk away with Lil' Apple, playing his flute, Chenqing, he suddenly heard Lan Wangji call out "Wei Ying" from behind him. Wei Wuxian turned, a look of surprise transforming into a delighted smile.
