The Untamed Episode 31 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
Life at the Burial Mounds was peaceful, and the residents had even managed to grow lotus flowers and roots. With a smile, Wei Wuxian instructed little Yuan that the lotus seeds grown there were not for eating but served as powerful protective talismans. Shortly after, Wen Ning brought an invitation from the Jin clan for Jin Ling's first-month celebration. Wei Wuxian was ecstatic at the prospect of seeing his senior sister, Jiang Yanli, again.
Meanwhile, rumors swept through the common folk regarding the Jin clan. People discussed the clan's proposed lookout towers and marveled at Jin Ling's prestigious birth. They recalled his seven-day celebration where he famously grasped his father Jin Zixuan’s sword, Suihua, to the delight of his parents, leading many to predict he would become a great swordsman. However, when news spread that Wei Wuxian was also invited to the upcoming celebration, widespread disapproval followed.
People questioned why the Jin clan would invite someone so notorious to a grand family event, labeling him a harbinger of disaster. Unbeknownst to them, Wei Wuxian was nearby, purchasing a small pendant. He explained to Wen Ning that this was merely an accessory; the real gift for Jin Ling was a protective rosary he had spent half a month crafting in the Demon-Subduing Palace. He boasted that with it, no low-level ghouls or demons could approach his nephew.
Wen Ning cautiously advised Wei Wuxian to control his temper around Jin Zixuan, but Wei Wuxian, genuinely happy to be invited, promised to behave. As they made their way to Lanling, they were ambushed at Qiongqi Road by Jin Zixun and his men. Jin Zixun furiously demanded that Wei Wuxian lift the "Hundred Holes Curse" from him, tearing open his robes to reveal a chest covered in ghastly sores.
Wei Wuxian, having no memory of the man, denied any involvement, stating he didn't use such insidious tricks. Enraged, Jin Zixun ordered his men to attack. In response, Wei Wuxian had Wen Ning break free from his spiritual constraints. With a thunderous roar, Wen Ning transformed into the formidable Ghost General, shielding Wei Wuxian with a massive boulder before single-handedly taking on Jin Zixun's forces.
Jin Zixun used the distraction to attack Wei Wuxian, snatching the rosary meant for Jin Ling. Just as they were about to clash, Jin Zixuan arrived, having been alerted by Jin Guangyao. Jin Zixuan reprimanded his cousin for his recklessness, arguing that the curse might not be Wei Wuxian's doing and that this ambush dishonored both him and Jiang Yanli. Unrepentant, Jin Zixun called Wei Wuxian a stain on their family and maliciously crushed the rosary.
The destruction of his gift pushed Wei Wuxian past his limit. Jin Zixuan pleaded with Wei Wuxian to have Wen Ning stand down so they could resolve the matter at Jinlin Tower, but Wei Wuxian scoffed, knowing he and Wen Ning would be killed the moment they stopped fighting. He then questioned if Jin Zixuan was truly unaware of the ambush. Caught off guard, Jin Zixuan swore he had no knowledge of it.
Ignoring Jin Zixuan's pleas, Wei Wuxian began to play his flute, Chenqing, directing Wen Ning's rage toward Jin Zixun. Jin Zixuan desperately stood between them, trying to reason with Wei Wuxian. However, Wen Ning, lost in his frenzy, perceived Jin Zixuan as a threat and lunged forward, fatally piercing him through the chest. As Jin Zixuan fell, his last thoughts were of Jiang Yanli. Horrified, Wei Wuxian froze.
The terrified Jin Zixun stumbled backward, only to be seized by the throat and killed by Wen Ning. Back at Jinlin Tower, Jiang Yanli anxiously awaited their arrival, only to receive the devastating news of her husband's death. Overwhelmed with grief, she collapsed. Wei Wuxian, after witnessing the tragedy, fainted and was carried back to the Burial Mounds by Wen Ning. He awoke to find a lucid and remorseful Wen Ning kneeling before him.
Enraged and heartbroken, Wei Wuxian attacked him, demanding to know what would now become of Jiang Yanli, Jin Ling, and himself. As Wei Wuxian broke down, Wen Qing approached and paralyzed him with a needle. She calmly explained that while he was unconscious, the Jin clan delivered an ultimatum: they would cease their pursuit if she and Wen Ning turned themselves in. She declared her intention to take her brother to Jinlin Tower to accept punishment.
Wei Wuxian struggled, protesting that he was not responsible for the curse and that finding the true caster would prove his innocence. More importantly, he argued that as Wen Ning's master, he should be the one to surrender, not Wen Ning, who was merely a weapon under his command. Wen Qing shook her head, stating the truth no longer mattered. She revealed the needle's effect would wear off in three days, by which time everything would be over.
As he pleaded, she placed a hand on his forehead, putting him into a deep sleep while tearfully whispering, "Sorry, and thank you." Wen Qing led Wen Ning outside, where the other Wen remnants had gathered, all volunteering to go with them. They arrived at Jinlin Tower and were surrounded. Jin Guangshan declared that the ones who killed his son deserved to have their "bones ground to dust."
Wen Qing held her brother's hand, accepting their fate was deserved, feeling that the peaceful days they'd had were a gift. Meanwhile, Jiang Yanli, clad in mourning clothes, knelt before Jin Zixuan's memorial tablet, a hollow shell of her former self. Three days later, Wei Wuxian awoke and stumbled outside to find the Burial Mounds eerily empty. The life and laughter were gone, replaced only by the haunting echoes of Jiang Yanli’s voice calling him home and Wen Qing's final, tearful farewell.
