Zhang Cheng, who had just regained consciousness, steadfastly refused surgery, citing financial concerns over compensating Fang Jing Xuan and covering his daughter's tuition. His daughter, Zhang Yun Yun, tearfully pleaded with him, explaining the life-threatening danger if he didn't get a stent in time. She offered to take on part-time jobs for her college expenses, emphasizing that having already lost her mother, she couldn't bear to lose her father too.

The emotional exchange culminated in a tearful embrace between father and daughter. Observing their plight, Xiao Yan initiated the process to apply for a medical fund jointly established by a former patient, their family, and the hospital. She soon returned with the good news that the fund would cover ninety percent of Zhang Cheng's medical expenses, including hospitalization, physician, surgery, and the stent, bringing immense relief and joy to both father and daughter, who then agreed to the surgery.

Zhang Yun Yun, who had just been admitted to the University of Political Science and Law, reassured her father that she would manage her studies and part-time work to ease his financial burden, and implored him not to abandon his life. Meanwhile, after a late-night phone call with Xiao Yan revealed Fang Jing Xuan's continued reluctance for surgery, Bai Shu took it upon himself to intervene.

The next morning, he presented Fang Jing Xuan with documented successful cases of trepanation surgery, assuring her of its high success rate and that timely removal of the hematoma would not jeopardize her upcoming performance at the Mariinsky Theatre within a month. He respected her dream but insisted she return for full treatment after the performance. Despite her initial skepticism, accusing him of collusion with her parents, Bai Shu's earnest explanation of respecting patient's dreams ultimately convinced her.

Her parents later confirmed to Xiao Yan that Fang Jing Xuan had signed the consent form. Xiao Yan, observing Bai Shu asleep at his desk after his all-night research, secretly took a photo, acknowledging his dedicated efforts. Following the successful surgery to clear her epidural hematoma, Fang Jing Xuan was informed she could be discharged in a week, with instructions to rest and take medication, promising to return for the complete surgery after her performance.

Later, Zhang Yun Yun visited Fang Jing Xuan, offering ¥5,000 as initial compensation. Fang Jing Xuan's father, Fang Anping, refused the money, explaining that the accident, while unfortunate, had unexpectedly revealed Fang Jing Xuan's glioma, which he considered a "blessing in disguise." Fang Jing Xuan herself had decided not to hold Zhang Cheng accountable, urging Zhang Yun Yun to use the money for her tuition. Deeply grateful, Zhang Yun Yun was then invited to see Fang Jing Xuan.

The two young women connected immediately, discussing their aspirations—Fang Jing Xuan's dream of dancing at the Mariinsky Theatre and Zhang Yun Yun's ambition to become a lawyer after just enrolling in the University of Political Science and Law, while interning part-time to ease her father's financial strain. They found common ground in their determination for their respective futures. Chen Zhi continued his relentless pursuit of Tang Hua. During lunch, he tried to engage her in conversation, but she was unimpressed.

After he discreetly took a phone call, Tang Hua, assuming he was being manipulative, left the cafeteria. Later that day, Tang Hua returned home to find Chen Zhi in her kitchen, having been invited by her mother to cook dinner. Tang Hua's mother praised Chen Zhi's cooking skills and his family values, but Tang Hua was furious, confronting him when her mother was out of earshot. Chen Zhi claimed he forgot to tell her about the call.

Tang Hua adamantly told him that his attempts to curry favor with her mother were futile and only intensified her dislike for him, making it clear there was no future for them. Desperate, Chen Zhi sought advice from Xu Yiran, who encouraged him to persist with unwavering determination. The next morning, when Tang Hua struggled to hail a taxi, Chen Zhi appeared in a rented car, offering her a ride to the hospital.

Though initially hesitant, she accepted due to the urgency. Upon arrival, Tang Hua warned him not to disclose their shared ride to any colleagues. Chen Zhi agreed, only to immediately confide the entire story to Xu Yiran, proudly mentioning Tang Hua's comment about his "thick skin," which Xu Yiran promptly clarified was not a compliment. At the Emergency Department, Tang Hua was examining a 50-year-old male patient complaining of abdominal discomfort and bloody stool, suspecting hemorrhoids.

While Tang Hua conducted blood tests and a digital rectal exam, the patient, an old Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, began to lecture her on TCM theories, diagnosing her own perceived bodily weaknesses and prescribing herbal remedies. Tang Hua expressed her exasperation to Xiao Yan, who then took over the case.

After further examination, Xiao Yan diagnosed the patient with an early colon tumor and recommended minimally invasive surgical removal by the Anorectal Department, assuring him of a high success rate if caught early. Later, Chen Yan Ke and her boyfriend Da Zhi, who were visiting Shanghai, arrived at the Emergency Department because Chen Yan Ke had a tonsil infection and low-grade fever. Bai Shu examined her, noting an inflamed throat, a tonsil abscess, and yellow exudation.

He ordered blood tests, which confirmed a bacterial infection, and prescribed antibiotics. As they were leaving, Chen Yan Ke nearly fell due to a sore heel, which Da Zhi noticed. At the same time, Xiao Yan, walking by, twisted her ankle due to ill-fitting shoes. Bai Shu quickly came to her aid, offering external medication and even a pair of his own comfortable shoes.

Tang Hua, witnessing Bai Shu's attentive care, bluntly told Xiao Yan that Bai Shu clearly had feelings for her, and that in her opinion, he was not worthy of Xiao Yan. Xiao Yan nervously tried to dismiss the notion. Bai Shu, however, had noticed Chen Yan Ke's foot injury and asked Lin Zhi to call the couple back for a re-examination.

Xiao Yan also examined Chen Yan Ke's severely swollen heel, which showed signs of pus, and determined it required surgical drainage for bacterial culture. Bai Shu suspected the throat and foot infections might be caused by the same bacteria. The culture results revealed "Klebsiella pneumoniae", a "superbug" typically associated with hospital environments. Chen Zhi recalled that Da Zhi had been hospitalized for pneumonia six months prior.

Bai Shu concluded that Da Zhi had become a healthy carrier of "Klebsiella pneumoniae" during his previous hospitalization and had unknowingly transmitted it to Chen Yan Ke through bodily fluid contact, leading to her infection when her immunity was weakened by travel exhaustion. He explained that since Da Zhi had been a carrier for so long, antibiotics would be less effective for him, and advised caution during intimate contact to reduce transmission risk.

Overwhelmed by guilt, Da Zhi felt he was unworthy of Chen Yan Ke and decided to leave, entrusting Chen Zhi with a goodbye letter for her. Bai Shu, however, immediately instructed Chen Zhi to discard the letter and quickly bring Chen Yan Ke to stop Da Zhi. Chen Yan Ke confronted Da Zhi as he tried to leave, questioning his willingness to abandon her over "such a small matter."

Xiao Yan intervened, reassuring Da Zhi that he bore no fault for unknowingly carrying the bacteria and that preventive measures could manage the risk. She passionately argued against giving up on love, sharing stories of enduring love witnessed in the hospital, such as the sacrifices made by Lin Ruo Yun and Li Shi Lei, and an elderly man's unwavering care for his comatose wife.

Xiao Yan highlighted the privilege of living in a peaceful era with advanced medical care, contrasting it with war-torn regions where lives are lost instantly. She urged them to embrace their love and overcome this "small bacteria" together. Moved by her words, Da Zhi tearfully apologized to Chen Yan Ke and embraced her, resolving to stay.

Reflecting on the incident, Bai Shu advised Chen Zhi that a good doctor must not only see the illness but also the person, implying that Chen Zhi should have seen Chen Yan Ke's enduring love for Da Zhi beyond his infection.
