Thank You Doctor Episode 25 Recap
> Thank You Doctor Recap
Tang Hua, tired of her mother's persistent matchmaking, asked Chen Zhi to pretend to be her boyfriend, an offer he eagerly accepted. She then called her mother to inform her of this new development, and her mother insisted that she bring him home for a visit. Chen Zhi, preparing for the encounter, bought numerous gifts and researched Tang Hua's mother's preferences. However, upon seeing Chen Zhi, her initial excitement turned to disappointment.
Chen Zhi tried his best to win over Tang Hua's mother, offering dried fruit snacks and Swedish health products he claimed to have purchased abroad, which seemed to impress her. When she inquired about his family's business, Tang Hua quickly interjected, explaining that Chen Zhi's family was involved in the international antique trade, making it sound like a very lucrative venture. Tang Hua's mother, recalling Chen Zhi once mentioning his parents were ordinary workers, questioned him.
Chen Zhi, feeling guilty, began to confess the truth, but Tang Hua swiftly stopped him, explaining that he was simply a low-profile individual who preferred not to flaunt his wealth at the hospital. As the conversation turned to marriage, Chen Zhi readily agreed to plans for their future, though Tang Hua quickly diverted the topic to dinner. After the meal, Tang Hua tried to hurry Chen Zhi away, but her mother encouraged him to visit often.
As Tang Hua walked him out, she reminded him that her mother was only interested in the "fake rich kid" persona, not his true self, and warned him against accepting future dinner invitations. Chen Zhi asked if she would accept him if he were genuinely wealthy, to which Tang Hua firmly replied that his financial status would not change her mind. He then mused about what if he relied solely on his own efforts, expressing his disappointment.
Meanwhile, a young woman named Fang Jing Xuan was admitted to the emergency room after a car accident, unconscious with a head injury. Xiao Yan, her attending physician, quickly ordered comprehensive scans, which revealed an epidural hematoma and a glioma. A man, initially believed to be Fang Jing Xuan's father, arrived, asking about treatment costs and suggesting fewer tests. Xiao Yan assured him all tests were essential.
Bai Shu, having heard about Xiao Yan's new patient, subtly sent Chen Zhi to gather information, implicitly hoping he would also approach Tang Hua. Chen Zhi tried to consult with Xiao Yan about the patient's condition, but she, busy explaining the severity to the family, directed him to Tang Hua. Tang Hua, suspicious of Chen Zhi's motives, believing he was using work as an excuse to get closer, quickly dismissed him.
Chen Zhi then reported to Bai Shu that Fang Jing Xuan had an epidural hematoma and a glioma, and Xiao Yan planned skull drilling followed by a craniotomy. Xu Yiran playfully teased Bai Shu about his eagerness to help Xiao Yan. Fang Jing Xuan eventually regained consciousness but adamantly refused the recommended craniotomy, explaining that she was a ballet dancer with a crucial performance scheduled in just one month.
Xiao Yan, respecting the patient's autonomy, stated that she would need a family member's signature to decline the surgery. Tang Hua, concerned about the risks of delaying surgery, expressed her suspicion that the "father" was unwilling to spend money. Moments later, the man returned with 10,000 yuan, claiming he had "raised" it, only to be told that less money would be needed if Fang Jing Xuan opted out of surgery.
As Xiao Yan and Tang Hua tried to persuade him to talk to Fang Jing Xuan, her actual parents arrived, frantic to find their daughter. The man, flustered, tried to flee but fainted. Fang Jing Xuan identified him as Zhang Cheng, the taxi driver who hit her. Her father immediately called a lawyer. Tang Hua remarked on Zhang Cheng's apparent poverty, suggesting he wouldn't be able to afford a lawyer.
Xiao Yan, however, mentioned the possibility of legal aid and instructed Tang Hua to contact Zhang Cheng's family. Fang Jing Xuan's parents explained their daughter's deep commitment to ballet, particularly her lifelong dream of dancing "Swan Lake" at the Mariinsky Theater, a dream inherited from her grandmother.
Xiao Yan then detailed the grim reality: Fang Jing Xuan's glioma was located in a functional area of her brain, making surgical removal likely to cause nerve damage and potentially end her dancing career. She also presented a compromise: a minimally invasive skull drilling to relieve pressure from the hematoma, allowing Fang Jing Xuan to perform, but requiring continuous medication and a full craniotomy for the tumor after the performance.
The parents worried Fang Jing Xuan would never agree if she knew she might not dance again. Xiao Yan, however, stressed Fang Jing Xuan's right to full disclosure. The parents ultimately agreed to inform their daughter themselves, hoping to soften the blow. They attempted to persuade Fang Jing Xuan, downplaying the surgery's impact on her dancing. However, Fang Jing Xuan remained resolute, declaring she would "even accept death" to perform.
Her parents appealed to her emotional side, reminding her of her grandmother's wishes and their own fears as her only child. Fang Jing Xuan, visibly moved, seemed to concede. As she prepared to sign the consent form, Bai Shu unexpectedly intervened. He plainly told her that a craniotomy would make it impossible for her to dance in a month and might prevent her from ever dancing again.
He then reiterated the "win-win" solution of minimally invasive surgery first, followed by the full craniotomy after her performance. Fang Jing Xuan, overwhelmed, decisively refused this complex proposition. Her parents were enraged, accusing Bai Shu of sabotaging her treatment and threatening to report him to hospital management. Fang Jing Xuan’s father confronted Lu Ping‘an, the director, about Bai Shu’s actions. Lu Ping’an tried to pacify him, offering apologies on behalf of the hospital.
Bai Shu expressed his disdain for Lu Ping'an's overly conciliatory approach, but Xiao Yan stepped in, defending Bai Shu and asserting the patient's right to informed consent. Lu Ping'an, frustrated, reprimanded Bai Shu for causing conflict and reminded them of the need for tact with agitated emergency patients. Despite the heated exchange, Xiao Yan assured Lu Ping’an that they would find a solution.
Later, Xiao Yan and Bai Shu reflected on the challenges of their profession, with Bai Shu admitting that Fang Jing Xuan's case had changed his perspective, making him realize he had sometimes prioritized immediate treatment over patient autonomy. Meanwhile, Jiang Shan informed Zhang Yunyun, Zhang Cheng's daughter, that her father had suffered a myocardial infarction due to emotional distress and was hospitalized. Zhang Yunyun approached Fang Jing Xuan's parents to apologize on her unconscious father's behalf.
Fang Jing Xuan's mother, still reeling from her daughter's predicament, angrily rejected the apology, lamenting her daughter's ruined dreams. Zhang Yunyun offered to cover medical costs and compensation, but Fang Jing Xuan's father dismissed her, stating his lawyer would handle everything. Zhang Cheng, now awake, refused the interventional surgery for his heart condition, citing a lack of funds.
Xiao Yan explained the severity of his condition, emphasizing the critical narrowing of his blood vessels and the high risk of death if untreated. Zhang Yunyun quickly agreed to the surgery, but her father again refused, saying he had no money for the procedure or a stent. Tearfully, Zhang Yunyun revealed her father's struggles: raising her alone after her mother's death, he tirelessly drove a taxi day and night, which led to his heart condition.
He was overjoyed when she was accepted into China University of Political Science and Law and worked even harder to pay her tuition, wanting to spare her from student loans. His recent chest pain, a result of overwork, had caused the accident. She realized her father was sacrificing his life for their financial burdens.
