Story of Kunning Palace Episode 9 Recap
> Story of Kunning Palace Recap
When Jiang Xuening heard that the jade ruyi matter was related to the Yan family, she questioned Xie Wei about it. Xie Wei said her actions might bring disaster to the Yan family. Jiang Xuening retorted, and Xie Wei, startled by the cat in her arms, struck her. The cat fled. The two quarreled, and Xie Wei left in anger while Jiang Xuening looked at the scratch on her hand, deep in thought.
Yan Lin discovered that Duke Xue had been privately stockpiling troops and urgently reported it to his father, who decided they must investigate thoroughly before informing the emperor. Xie Wei heard that Yan’s father had gone to Tongzhou and was puzzled. His class in the palace the day before had been a cover to pass a message, and he returned again today. Lü Xian teased him, saying he was doing it for Jiang Xuening.
Xie Wei admitted she had a kind heart and might eventually open up to them. Jiang Xuening, worried the jade ruyi case would implicate the Yan family, tried to find ways to stop it, but the palace was on high alert, making it difficult. The teacher didn’t use Xie Wei’s textbook but instead taught traditional female virtues. This reminded Jiang Xuening of her previous life, where such dogma was used to unjustly condemn her.
She slammed the desk, declared she was disgusted, and left, claiming stomach trouble. The teacher was furious. In the palace, she encountered Yan Lin and some young lords. Xue Ye made unpleasant remarks, but Yan Lin defended Jiang Xuening’s reputation by saying they were just childhood friends. Afterward, he left with Shen Jie. Yan Lin went to Xie Wei, who kept him back and inquired about his father.
Sensing Yan Lin was troubled, Xie Wei asked him about it, and Yan Lin said Jiang Xuening's personality easily offended others, and since she was alone in the palace, he hoped Xie Wei could look after her. Shen Zhiyi also disliked the lessons on female virtue.
When Xie Wei arrived for the guqin class, he saw the books on their desks and ordered them thrown away, saying women already had too many constraints and they weren’t there to study such things. After class, he asked Jiang Xuening to retrieve a guqin but not just for that reason. Her hand injuries needed treatment, and Xie Wei, setting aside his pride, apologized and promised to handle the jade ruyi matter.
He said Yan Lin had gone to great lengths to get her into the palace so she could learn real skills—she was a raw jade that needed refining. Jiang Xuening asked how he knew she was such. Xie Wei recounted how, four years ago, she had braved danger alone on her way to the capital, unafraid of robbers, even smashing a guqin and cutting her hand to save his life.
It was because he had seen her then that he now felt disappointment. Later, when visiting the Jiang residence again, he saw her beating a maid over a minor issue. Her reputation worsened, and Xie Wei could only lament how the capital’s decadence ruined people. Jiang Xuening was relieved after hearing Xie Wei’s explanation and playfully meowed like a cat as she left, indicating she had forgiven him.
Shen Jie, concerned about Yan Lin’s recent behavior, sought out Jiang Xuening, who told him to pass on a message. Xue Shu happened to see this. She deliberately told Wang Jiu about Xie Wei throwing the books, claiming it was Jiang Xuening’s instigation. The next day, Wang Jiu humiliated Jiang Xuening by making her recite “Chaste Rites. ” Shen Zhiyi defended her, but Wang Jiu used the late emperor’s name to suppress her. Jiang Xuening had to accept the punishment. Shen Zhiyi angrily treated Jiang Xuening’s injuries and stormed off to ask the Empress Dowager to remove Wang Jiu.
