By now, Jiang Xuening thoroughly understood Xie Wei. When he asked whether she was still afraid of him, Jiang Xuening admitted she was more worried about the perilous state of the capital.

In truth, she had always wanted to ask Xie Wei if he planned to rebel, and Xie Wei was surprised that she cared so much about this question. Xue Dingfei came to say goodbye, confessing he had always known that this name was the embodiment of Xie Wei’s hatred. Xie Wei, Jiang Xuening, and others had just reunited with Yan Mu when Zhang Zhe arrived. Summoned by Xie Wei, Jiang Xuening advised him to think carefully about the imperial edict. As for her, she didn’t want to implicate the Jiang family and intended to lie low for a while.

But Xie Wei, enraged by her meeting with Zhang Zhe, lost control, repeatedly insisting that Jiang Xuening belonged to him. The room filled with ambiguity. When Lü Xian came to see Xie Wei, he was turned away by Daoyin. After their tender moment, Xie Wei proposed marriage to Jiang Xuening, but she gave no answer. Before dawn the next day, Xie Wei went to a military meeting. Jiang Xuening, fuming with anger, waited all day without seeing him.

Xie Wei spent the day in the military camp, visibly uneasy. Yan Mu and Yan Lin noticed it too—everyone could see Xie Wei and Jiang Xuening’s feelings for each other. But Yan Lin held no resentment; whoever Jiang Xuening chose was her own decision. As for Xie Wei, he had suffered greatly over the years. When Xie Wei returned home and learned Jiang Xuening had waited for him all day, he hesitated whether to go see her. Lü Xian, however, saw it clearly—Xie Wei was afraid of losing her.
