Xie Wei warned Zhou Yinzhi that no one must know about Jiang Xuening, or it would cost him his life. Zhou Yinzhi felt wronged because Duke Xue had already begun to suspect him. He wanted to use Jiang Xuening to threaten Xie Wei into cleaning up the aftermath of tonight's events. Xie Wei agreed, as long as he remained loyal to Jiang Xuening. Jiang Xuening was already in danger.

If he couldn’t stop them, Xie Wei intended to head to Tongzhou immediately. Zhang Zhe and Jiang Xuening followed Huang to San Niang Zi, where Prince Pingnan’s rebel faction was gathering. Zhang Zhe claimed to be from Dujun Mountain, but San Niang Zi saw through Jiang Xuening's disguise as a man. Zhang Zhe said she was his sister, but it didn’t fully dispel their doubts. When Jiang Xuening was abducted by the rebels, her father was deeply worried.

Xie Wei told him the truth and promised to take full responsibility for Jiang Xuening’s safety, requesting that the matter be kept secret. Her father would claim publicly that Jiang Xuening had gone to a temple to pray for her mother. Jiang Xuening and Zhang Zhe spent the night temporarily at the rebel base. Many of Zhang Zhe’s actions reminded Jiang Xuening of their past life.

Back then, when they were attacked, Zhang Zhe had refused to drink water she had touched, but now he drank it without hesitation. San Niang Zi arranged a separate room for them to rest. Still suspicious, the rebels eavesdropped outside. Zhang Zhe and Jiang Xuening had to communicate cautiously by writing on their hands. Zhang Zhe promised to find a way to get her out. For Jiang Xuening, she would always trust Zhang Zhe.

As soon as she said it, memories of their ambiguous past surged back. When Zhang Zhe tried to leave, Jiang Xuening grabbed his sleeve, saying it would arouse suspicion, and she was afraid to be alone. Xie Wei asked the emperor to give him the Yan family seal to go to Tongzhou and coordinate the situation. Duke Xue, displeased upon learning of the scheme, opposed the plan.

The emperor did not give full command to Xie Wei, only permitting him to go ahead while Duke Xue would bring reinforcements a few days later. The next morning, Jiang Xuening slept soundly leaning on Zhang Zhe. News came that Feng Mingyu wanted to see Zhang Zhe. No one had ever seen the real person from Dujun Mountain.

Seeing Feng Mingyu trying to make a move, Jiang Xuening grabbed Zhang Zhe’s hand and shouted at him, turning the suspicion on Feng Mingyu. But Feng Mingyu refused to confirm Zhang Zhe’s identity. At this crucial moment, Xue Dingfei appeared. Jiang Xuening was shocked — had Xue Dingfei in their past life also returned to the palace under Prince Pingnan’s orders?

Xue Dingfei still acted like a dissolute noble, but even he confirmed Zhang Zhe’s identity, and Feng Mingyu could no longer object. Duke Xue was ordered to take the Xingwu Guard to Tongzhou, but he remained wary of Xie Wei. Xie Wei rushed to where Zhang Zhe and Jiang Xuening had stayed the night before and found clues left by Xiaobao, deciding to hasten to Tongzhou. Xue Dingfei found a chance to relay messages with Xiaobao.

Zhang Zhe discovered saltpeter on the carriage. When Xue Dingfei burst into the carriage, Zhang Zhe turned the tables and threatened him. Xue Dingfei revealed his mission, which led Zhang Zhe to suspect he was working for Xie Wei, much to Xue Dingfei’s frustration. Zhang Zhe believed Xie Wei was too entangled with the rebels, but Jiang Xuening firmly trusted that Xie Wei was a good man.

Zhang Zhe responded that wrong was still wrong, which made Jiang Xuening even more upset. Xie Wei arrived at the Tongzhou military camp, but the Yan family troops did not trust him until he showed a letter from Yan Mu, which finally convinced them.
