Zhang Zhe’s goal just now was to search the palace staff. Now, he only needed to search the one who had just been checked with the paper to determine if Jiang Xuening was the main suspect. Zheng Bao discovered the suspicious young palace maid and immediately found the paper on her, but when the Empress Dowager saw her, she instantly realized it was a plot by Xue Shu to frame Jiang Xuening.

Jiang Xuening quickly realized the maid was illiterate and pleaded with the Emperor for justice. The Emperor nearly resorted to torture, but the Empress Dowager stopped him, clearly wanting to smooth things over. After a thrilling night, everyone was on the way back to the palace. You Yue once again mocked Jiang Xuening, who instead looked toward Xue Shu. The Emperor even sent a special message saying he would seek justice for her.

On the road, seeing Chen Ying and Zhang Zhe leaving the palace, Jiang Xuening hurried forward to express her thanks. As she turned to leave, Zhang Zhe specifically asked about the quarrel between Yao Xi and Jiang Xuening over him and said he would break off the engagement with Yao Xi. Hearing this, Jiang Xuening stood there smiling like a fool. Xie Wei, entering the palace and seeing this, was furious.

Xie Wei asked Jiang Xuening if she had any suspects. Jiang Xuening indeed suspected Xue Shu, but she lacked conclusive evidence. However, the Empress Dowager's reaction revealed a lot. Xie Wei told Jiang Xuening not to act rashly and asked what she was doing with Zhang Zhe earlier. Jiang Xuening replied that she was simply thanking Zhang Zhe for saving her.

Xie Wei realized that Jiang Xuening liked Zhang Zhe and was furious, wishing he could flay her on behalf of Yan Lin. He warned Jiang Xuening that if she ever liked someone, she must hide it deep in her heart—otherwise, someone could exploit her weakness to bring harm. Back at the residence, Xie Wei immediately ordered an investigation into Zhang Zhe. The Empress Dowager scolded Xue Shu mildly, but she didn’t actually disapprove of her actions.

With Jiang Xuening still in the palace, she would have her chance to deal with her. Shen Zhiyi, upon hearing what happened that night, immediately had several outfits made for Jiang Xuening to support her. Shen Zhiyi unintentionally saw that Shen Jie also had a handkerchief identical to Jiang Xuening’s, confirming for Jiang Xuening that Xue Shu had framed her. But all for the position of Empress—whoever wanted it could have it; she didn’t care.

Yan Mu specially thanked Xie Wei for saving his life. Last night he took such a great risk—was it really just because he was Yan Lin’s mentor? Xie Wei simply said that Yan Mu had spent his life in battles and shouldn't be framed by petty men. Zheng Bao told Jiang Xuening that the maid who framed her was dead and that the Emperor wished to see her. These past few days, the Duke of Xue had been saying divisive things about Xie Wei to the Emperor. The Ministry of Justice said the maid was likely a rebel planted by Prince Pingnan and suggested awarding Jiang Xuening as comfort—but the Emperor's gaze toward her was far from proper.
