Liu Wanyu called Mai Chenghuan to the hotel and even prepared a gown for her. Mai Chenghuan was confused. She thought it was just a family dinner with her aunt and uncle and didn’t see the need for all the fuss. But unable to resist Liu Wanyu’s persuasion, she reluctantly changed clothes. Noticing Liu Wanyu’s odd behavior, Mai Chenghuan was about to react when Liu Wanyu dragged her into the banquet hall.

The room was lavishly decorated, with a banner at the center of the stage announcing the engagement banquet of Xin Jialiang and Mai Chenghuan. Family and friends from both the Mai and Xin families were all present. Xin Jialiang stood on stage waiting for her. Mai Chenghuan instantly understood everything. Upon hearing that Xin Jialiang and Mai Chenghuan were getting engaged downstairs, He Dong immediately informed Yao Zhiming, who rushed over without hesitation.

Mai Chengzao and Mai Laitian arrived shortly after and blamed Liu Wanyu for acting on her own. Mai Chenghuan stood frozen in place without saying a word. Xin Jialiang thought she had agreed and kept apologizing when he realized she knew nothing about it. Xin Jiali quickly came over and urged Xin Jialiang to go through with the process and calm Xin Zhishan first. Liu Wanyu also tried to persuade Mai Chenghuan to get engaged.

Furious, Mai Chenghuan called Xin Jialiang onto the stage and publicly announced that they had broken up, apologizing to both families. Liu Wanyu tried to stop her and insisted that it was just a lovers’ quarrel and the engagement banquet should continue. But Mai Chenghuan stood firm. Liu Wanyu lost face, flew into a rage, and threatened to sever their mother-daughter relationship. Deeply hurt, Mai Chenghuan said she no longer wanted to be the obedient daughter.

Liu Wanyu slapped her hard across the face. In defiance, Mai Chenghuan left without looking back. Yao Zhiming witnessed it all and quietly walked away. Mai Laitian told Xin Zhishan to keep an eye on Xin Jialiang and not let him bother Mai Chenghuan again. Then he pulled Liu Wanyu and Mai Chengzao away. Xin Zhishan, humiliated, vented his anger on Xin Jiali. She retaliated by bringing up his extramarital affair, causing Xin Zhishan to faint on the spot.

Mai Chenghuan went alone to the riverside to clear her head. Yao Zhiming arrived shortly after to accompany and comfort her. Mai Chengzao escorted their aunt, uncle, and other relatives to the bus station. Unable to reach Mai Chenghuan by phone, he returned home to explain the situation to their parents. Mai Laitian blamed Liu Wanyu for acting without permission. Mai Chenghuan came home furious, packed her things, and decided to move out.

Liu Wanyu refused and scolded her for being ungrateful. Mai Chenghuan didn’t want to hear it, grabbed her luggage, and slammed the door. Liu Wanyu was dumbfounded, and Mai Chengzao did his best to comfort her. Mai Laitian caught up with Mai Chenghuan and gave her all his saved pocket money. Mai Chenghuan firmly refused. She just wanted to be an independent person. Mai Laitian forced the bank card into her hand, then tearfully said goodbye.

Mai Chenghuan walked out with her luggage. Yao Zhiming had been waiting outside, intending to help her find a place to stay. Mao Yongxin rushed over after receiving a call from Mai Chengzao. Mai Chenghuan didn’t want to trouble her and preferred to live with Chen Dejing. Yao Zhiming offered to drive her, but Mao Yongxin firmly refused and took her by car.

Along the way, she tried to cheer Mai Chenghuan up and promised to do everything she could to help her through this tough time. Yao Zhiming asked He Dong to buy a bouquet of sunflowers that night. He planned to give them to Chen Dejing the next morning. He Dong complied. Chen Dejing took Mai Chenghuan in and made her a cup of anti-swelling tea, encouraging her to get a good night’s sleep.

She told Mai Chenghuan to live for herself. Mai Chenghuan gave Chen Dejing the necklace Mao Yongxin had gifted her, placing a photo of the two of them inside the pendant. Chen Dejing cherished it dearly. Early the next morning, Yao Zhiming brought the sunflowers to visit Chen Dejing. She guessed he was there because of Mai Chenghuan. Yao Zhiming denied it, so Chen Dejing asked him to help wash the bedsheets.

Yao Zhiming had never done that kind of chore before. Mai Chenghuan guided him, but he still couldn’t get it right. She then taught him hand-in-hand. Yao Zhiming playfully splashed water on Mai Chenghuan’s face. Not to be outdone, she fought back. The two of them joked and laughed together. Ever since Mai Chenghuan left home, Liu Wanyu had been utterly distraught.
