Miao Fei rushed to the hospital where a doctor informed her that her father, Miao Huanyang, was not in serious condition but needed to maintain a calm mind, avoiding any extreme emotional reactions. Shortly after, Ma Shang accompanied Miao Fei into Miao Huanyang's hospital room. Miao Huanyang appeared well and warmly greeted Ma Shang, even offering to look over some work documents Ma Shang had with him.
Ma Shang explained his plan to separate the R&D department's computer network from other departments, which Miao Huanyang praised as a strong security measure. Concerned for her father's health, Miao Fei suggested Ma Shang leave. Before he did, Miao Huanyang advised Miao Fei to manage her interpersonal relationships effectively within the company. Upon returning home, Ma Shang's parents informed him that agents from National Security had visited their house for an investigation, though they claimed to have nothing to hide.
Ma Shang's mother then asked if his college girlfriend was named An Jing, noting that one of the agents who visited today also shared that name. Ma Shang remained silent, continuing to eat. After dinner, Ma Shang left the house. His father, Ma Junhai, expressed worry that his past association with Miao Huanyang might negatively impact Ma Shang and their company, despite assurances from the agents that it was a casual check.
Ma Shang's mother tried to comfort him, stating that their son was working and they were not short on money, so any business impact would not be a big deal. Meanwhile, An Jing and Du Meng were strategizing their investigation into Dinghua Group's internal personnel. They planned to prioritize middle management, the R&D department, employees on duty during Jia Changan's murder, and recent hires in important positions, especially those with questionable resume points or unusual career changes.
Separately, their colleague, He Zixuan, used the SkyEye system to locate Xu He, confirming his presence at the People's Hospital where Miao Huanyang was admitted, but Xu He quickly disappeared from their tracking. Later that night, Miao Huanyang woke up to see Xu He's figure outside his hospital room, startling him. Miao Fei, having gone out to buy coffee, was not there. Xu He then entered the room.
Miao Huanyang, visibly shaken, sternly told Xu He he would no longer help him and ordered him to leave. Xu He retorted that if Miao Huanyang were gone, all the information he had collected over the years would be useless. Miao Huanyang, enraged, threatened to expose everything, declaring it would be a "life-and-death struggle."
Xu He then insinuated that Miao Huanyang and Jia Changan were involved in illicit activities, even suggesting they might be responsible for Jia Changan's death, which Miao Huanyang vehemently denied. Miao Fei, returning with coffee, overheard the heated exchange between her father and Xu He from outside the room. Frightened, she quickly retreated to the stairwell, waiting until she heard Xu He's footsteps fade before cautiously emerging. To her surprise, Xu He was waiting for her just outside the door.
Her coffee spilled in her shock. Miao Fei confronted him, stating she had seen him at Jia Changan's funeral and demanded to know his relationship with her father. Xu He revealed they had known each other since Miao Huanyang founded Dinghua, suggesting her father had "more guts" than others in the industry. Miao Fei implored him to leave her retired and ailing father alone.
Xu He countered by invoking the saying "a father's debt has to be repaid by the son," implying that since Miao Fei was still at Dinghua, she could take her father's place in assisting him. He promised to give her all his information, assuring her father would be alright if she complied.
Ma Shang expressed his frustration and guilt to An Jing, feeling responsible for his father's company being entangled in the investigation due to its connection to Chang'an Technology and the Jia Changan case. An Jing reassured him that the investigation into his father's company was inevitable given its ties, regardless of Ma Shang's involvement. She advised him to console his parents appropriately without revealing his true role.
An Jing then informed Ma Shang that National Security would be questioning Dinghua employees the following day, partly to provide cover for him and exert pressure on other potential suspects. She highlighted the suspicious case of Wu Miao, a senior technologist who left a similar role in Tianlin City to become an assistant to the less qualified Yu Haoran at Dinghua. The next day, National Security agents arrived at Dinghua to question employees.
Ma Shang feigned surprise as he was called in for an interview, going through the motions with An Jing and other agents. He later met Cheng Lei for lunch and confided that his family was being investigated because his father had transported goods for Miao Huanyang for years, making him a "related suspect."
Cheng Lei advised Ma Shang not to mention his father's investigation at the company and to be wary of Yang Xun, whom he described as "Pang Yishan's person" and a "smiling tiger." Next, Miao Fei faced questioning from An Jing and Du Meng. She expressed her frustration, stating she had been questioned multiple times already. An Jing shifted to asking about visitors to Miao Huanyang at the hospital.
Miao Fei recognized Xu He from a photograph, confirming he had visited her father yesterday and was likely an early business partner. An Jing assured Miao Fei that they would provide any necessary assistance. Later, An Jing and Du Meng reviewed interrogation footage of Yu Haoran. Yu Haoran claimed to have taken leave on the day of Jia Changan's incident, which was confirmed, but he also revealed seeing Jia Changan at the Tianfang Hotel more than half a month prior.
This raised a crucial question for the investigators: why was Jia Changan at the hotel, and with whom, especially when he was supposedly planning his wedding with Miao Fei? Miao Fei, accompanied by Zhou Lian, decided to discard all of Jia Changan's belongings, questioning if he was truly destined for her or merely sought her father's resources. She received a phone call from Xu He, who asked her to meet him downstairs.
Xu He handed her a card and instructed her to find an opportunity to plug it into Professor Zou's computer, adding that the card also served as a key to his door. He dismissed her questions, telling her not to ask too much, as more knowledge would only increase her burden. He ignored her demand for her father's "information" until the task was complete. Upon returning home, Miao Fei thanked Zhou Lian for her companionship but requested to be alone.
As soon as Zhou Lian left, Miao Fei collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. Later, Ma Shang returned with dessert for An Jing, prompting playful jealousy from He Zixuan and Du Meng. Du Meng voiced his suspicion that Miao Fei might also be involved in the case.
