Storm Eye Episode 27 Recap
> Storm Eye Recap
Ma Shang arrived late to a meeting, explaining he had been at the hospital. He reported that Lin Xiaolan’s doctor diagnosed her condition as hypotension, which would resolve with rest. An Jing confirmed that Yu Haoran presented no issues, appearing to have been manipulated, and was now under surveillance. However, Ma Shang expressed concern over Pang Yishan, to whom Lin Xiaolan had entrusted full responsibility for Dinghua’s affairs.
An Jing added that she had deliberately tested Pang Yishan, noting his apparent fear of involvement in Yu Haoran’s matter, which she found peculiar. She then suggested assigning Lao Liu, who had been supervising Yu Haoran, to monitor Pang Yishan instead, a suggestion which was approved. Meanwhile, He Zixuan was urged to focus on identifying who was manipulating the stock market.
Later, a Vice President, identified as Fu Zong, visited Pang Yishan, inquiring about Dinghua’s recent lack of orders from his company, Yushan Mining, and expressing concern over their agreement and quota. Pang Yishan, appearing preoccupied, assured him that Dinghua would honor its commitments but stated he was too busy to discuss the matter further.
After Fu Zong left, Pang Yishan summoned Miao Fei to his office for a frank discussion, stating that in this critical period, they needed to work together for Dinghua. He emphasized the urgent need for capital to stabilize the stock market. Miao Fei acknowledged Dinghua's conservative operating strategy, which had previously rejected investment groups, fearing speculative intentions.
Pang Yishan then implied that Miao Fei was the only one who could save Dinghua, referring to her father, Miao Huanyang, and his connections. Miao Fei explained that her father was recuperating in a nursing home in Greece, in poor health, and was therefore unable to assist. Pang Yishan then requested Miao Huanyang's contact information so he could directly approach his network for investment, but Miao Fei refused, reiterating her father's delicate health.
Pang Yishan, angered by her refusal, coldly ended their discussion, asserting that he could achieve his goals without the Miao family’s involvement. Distraught, Miao Fei sought out An Jing, confessing her predicament with Pang Yishan and her inability to reveal the true state of her father’s health. An Jing acknowledged Miao Fei’s deep emotional connection to Dinghua, which her father had founded, but underscored the significant national loss if Dinghua's core technology fell into the wrong hands.
An Jing questioned Pang Yishan's consistent refusal of state-owned enterprise assistance, especially since Lin Xiaolan had sought such help. Miao Fei explained that Dinghua had always pursued independent development, a principle established by her father and upheld by Lin Xiaolan. An Jing, however, found Pang Yishan’s unwavering refusal unreasonable, given Dinghua’s desperate circumstances, and wondered if he might be hiding something.
An Jing clarified that they would maintain vigilance against anyone involved until the case was resolved, acknowledging Miao Fei’s invaluable assistance in their investigation. Meanwhile, Ma Shang and Du Meng tracked down Fan Dewei, the driver responsible for An Jing's father's accident, to a dilapidated rental house in a town slated for demolition. They found him heavily intoxicated. Fan Dewei was defensive and emotional when questioned, especially concerning his deceased daughter, and made several contradictory statements.
He claimed to have had no contact with his girlfriend, Li Fang, since his imprisonment, yet Ma Shang observed a recent photo of Li Fang and their daughter, who appeared to be around ten years old, as well as new, unopened toiletries in the house, suggesting recent visits. Du Meng noticed signs of alcohol allergy on Fan Dewei's face, casting doubt on his claim of daily drinking to cope with sorrow.
Ma Shang then noted that despite the accident report confirming high alcohol levels in his blood at the time, drinking so much with an allergy would be tantamount to suicide, thus theorizing that Fan Dewei drank to embolden himself rather than to drown his sorrows. Du Meng further noted that if Fan Dewei and Li Fang were unmarried, their daughter would not have been eligible for the charity rescue list, adding another inconsistency to Fan Dewei’s account.
Later that evening, An Jing continued to monitor Pang Yishan, who attended his fourth business gathering, observing his tireless dedication with growing unease. She instructed a colleague, Xiao Li, to maintain close surveillance on him. Elsewhere, Li Fang visited Fan Dewei, showing concern. Fan Dewei, however, told her not to visit anymore, saying he was moving to a new place and would contact her then.
As Li Fang was leaving, Du Meng and Ma Shang intercepted her, requesting her cooperation with a few questions. They then brought Li Fang back to Fan Dewei's residence, startling him. Ma Shang revealed that they had spoken with Li Fang and that many secrets were coming to light.
He explained to Fan Dewei that his daughter’s hematopoietic stem cell transplantation was tampered with; the medical team that collected the cells was different from the one that performed the surgery, and they even operated at different hospitals. Ma Shang revealed that someone had manipulated the process and tampered with the files, making the doctors believe they were transplanting matched cells.
His daughter was then moved to another hospital for recovery, where the doctors, unaware of the actual situation, struggled to identify the cause of the rejection. Ma Shang asserted that the surgery was a ploy to silence Fan Dewei. Overwhelmed by the truth, Fan Dewei broke down and confessed that the car accident was not accidental.
He recounted how someone had provided him with the time, location, and details of the target vehicle, instructing him simply to stop the car in exchange for his daughter’s medical treatment. The idea of drinking and causing an accident was also suggested by them. Despite his alcohol allergy, Fan Dewei drank heavily out of fear, leading him to lose control and fatally hit the person.
When asked to identify the instigator, Fan Dewei could only recall that it was "an old man," a detail that visibly alarmed Ma Shang and Du Meng. Following Fan Dewei's confession, Ma Shang and Du Meng met with An Jing. Du Meng, hesitant to deliver the grim news, deferred to Ma Shang. Upon hearing the truth about her father’s death, An Jing became highly emotional, attempting to immediately confront Fan Dewei.
Ma Shang restrained her, reminding her of the protocols, and held her as she wept. After an overnight interrogation, Fan Dewei provided a full confession, but the identity of the old man who ordered the hit remained elusive, with no name or clear description. Ma Shang acknowledged that a composite sketch had been made but noted that after more than ten years, its effectiveness would likely be limited, though they would continue to investigate.
He also inquired about investigating Hermes, but Song Bureau Chief explained the difficulties involved, noting that Director Qin was already working with the foreign affairs department to explore diplomatic pressure. Preparing to return to Dinghua, Ma Shang expressed his commitment to his duties, noting the company’s current critical state. Song Bureau Chief voiced his profound regret over the original investigation into An Jing’s father’s case, feeling responsible for the truth being buried for a decade.
Ma Shang reassured him, explaining that Fan Dewei’s motivation to save his daughter would have prevented him from speaking out, and crucial evidence was not available at the time, thus absolving Song Bureau Chief of blame. Song Bureau Chief thanked Ma Shang, agreeing that uncovering the truth was the best solace for fallen comrades. Later, An Jing confided in Du Meng, expressing her apprehension about facing her mother.
Her mother had always believed her father's death was not an accident, and now her suspicions were tragically confirmed. An Jing worried that sharing the truth would cause her mother further emotional distress. Du Meng confessed he had similar concerns about telling An Jing, but Ma Shang had pointed out that An Jing, as an adult, had the right to know the truth, and he believed the same applied to An Jing’s mother. An Jing thanked him for his understanding.
As Ma Shang arrived at Dinghua, he was greeted with news that Pang Yishan had successfully secured a company to inject capital into Dinghua. He quickly sought out Miao Fei, and together they attempted to attend the meeting, but a security guard barred their entry, stating that only individuals on Pang Yishan’s approved list were permitted. Ma Shang immediately telephoned An Jing to relay this significant development.
