Glory of Special Forces Episode 37 Recap
> Glory of Special Forces Recap
Shu Hai, accompanied by his adopted daughter Wei Wei and a group of thugs, prepared to leave his residence. Before setting out, Shu Hai instructed Wei Wei to fasten her bag tightly. On the way, Shu Hai, superstitious upon seeing a snake, believed it was an unlucky omen and decided to turn back. However, Yan Poyue emerged, introducing himself as "Yan Poyue, Yan as in the prodigal Yan Qing, Po means destroyer, Yue as in Yue Fei."
Shu Hai immediately pulled Wei Wei in front of him as a shield, while his men stood defensively. Yan Poyue quickly deduced that Wei Wei was not Shu Hai's biological daughter and warned the thugs to leave, stating that their offenses wouldn't lead to a death sentence, unlike Shu Hai's, and urging them to let him and Shu Hai settle the matter alone. Fearful, the thugs fled.
Shu Hai then attempted to bribe and threaten Yan Poyue, revealing a bomb in Wei Wei's backpack and showing him the remote control. He offered to abandon drug dealing and leave Wei Wei if Yan Poyue let him go, even trying to tempt him with over 200 kilograms of gold he had accumulated.
Yan Poyue, unfazed, calmly stated that his mission was either to capture or kill Shu Hai, with no other options, and mocked Shu Hai for threatening a child. He then revealed that the teddy bear he carried contained a signal jammer, rendering Shu Hai's remote useless.
After explaining the jammer's technical specifications (315 AM wireless mode, AM modulation, operating frequencies of 355 MHz and 433 MHz, current emission 2-10 mA), Yan Poyue swiftly disarmed Shu Hai, grabbed Wei Wei, and secured Shu Hai. He then promised Wei Wei he would take her back to her mother.
However, as Yan Poyue attempted to leave with Shu Hai and Wei Wei, the villagers, led by their patriarch who claimed to have watched Shu Hai grow up, blocked their path with weapons, demanding Shu Hai's release. Yan Poyue became enraged, asking if they had any conscience or could distinguish good from evil.
He acknowledged their poverty and harsh living conditions, but vehemently argued that it did not justify engaging in drug production and trafficking, which ruined countless families and was a capital offense in any era. He pointed out that while neighboring villages were developing, Shu Family Village was stagnant due to this "rotten apple" (Shu Hai) who exploited their greed with small favors, turning them into his unwitting protectors.
Yan Poyue challenged them, asking why they couldn't use their courage and determination for honest work instead of risking their lives for a dirty business. The villagers, eventually swayed by his words, made way. Upon Yan Poyue's return with Shu Hai, Qin Feng was relieved and somewhat surprised that he was unharmed. Qin Feng interrogated him, asking if he was a negotiator or could take on 200 men alone, and criticized him for putting himself and Wei Wei at risk.
Yan Poyue revealed his hidden strategy: he had concealed the bomb he seized from Shu Hai in his bag, ready to brandish it and claim it was a timed device if the villagers had become truly violent. He explained that the villagers were not inherently bad people, but their extreme poverty made them susceptible to dreams of quick wealth, blurring their sense of right and wrong.
Qin Feng acknowledged this, admitting that such human weakness is often exploited, much like Shu Hai did, and even Yan Poyue himself, by taking such risks. Qin Feng expressed that he previously wouldn't have trusted Yan Poyue for Squad Nine if he only sought personal victory, but now he could. With his individual assessment complete, Yan Poyue was ordered to return to team training.
Back at the Cheetah base, Yan Poyue was greeted by his returning teammates, Xiao Yun Jie, Yue Kong, and Guo Xiaoxiao, who had just finished an overseas competition. They playfully teased him about his "small-time" mission, where he "didn't even fire a shot" or get a scratch, contrasting it with their intense competition. Yan Poyue congratulated Yue Kong and Guo Xiaoxiao on their first-place win in shooting, although Guo Xiaoxiao lamented their failure to secure the team championship.
Later, Qin Feng mused that while obedient soldiers are easy to manage, they lack the potential for true greatness. He asserted that individuals like Yan Poyue, with both prominent strengths and weaknesses, possess limitless possibilities for future development. Qin Feng admitted that Yan Poyue initially "irked" him, but for the long-term goals of the Cheetah, he had to learn to appreciate him. With Yan Poyue's "problem" resolved, Qin Feng redirected focus to Squad Seven's training.
Meanwhile, Wei Wei, who had been abducted three years prior, had developed a severe psychological dependency on Shu Hai. She had been confined in a dark room and only allowed to see him every three days to receive food and briefly leave, leading to a profound attachment. Now back with her family, she refused to communicate with them and occasionally became hysterical. Wei Wei expressed a strong desire to see Yan Poyue.
After numerous reports through various military and public security channels, Qin Feng drove Yan Poyue to the hospital. Yan Poyue brought a large teddy bear and gently tried to engage Wei Wei, peeling an orange for her. Wei Wei, shyly, presented him with a card that read, "I like you. I want to be your bride when I grow up."
Yan Poyue smiled and, in response, made a pinky promise with her, asking her to be a good, healthy girl and cooperate with her doctors. He promised to keep her card. Further intelligence gathered from Shu Hai's interrogation by public security revealed a major cross-border armed drug trafficking operation planned by the Red Scorpion organization for early next month. The operation was significant in scale and would be personally escorted by Red Scorpion's leader, Xing Tian.
This presented a crucial opportunity to capture Xing Tian and seize a massive quantity of drugs. During a meeting, Xing Tian discussed with a subordinate how their new drug-growing land promised double the yield, but lamented the difficulty of shipping it. He expressed his belief that there was a mole within Red Scorpion and planned to "send him to die" during this operation.
He stated that a new path for transport had been established, and he would personally oversee the shipment. Miya, a close associate, insisted on accompanying him, promising to ensure his safe return. Qin Feng briefed the Cheetah team, detailing the operation. He explained that recent tight border security had led to a huge backlog of drugs in the hands of foreign traffickers, who were now desperate to offload them.
Red Scorpion had united several major drug trafficking groups to form a large, formidable joint transport team, potentially including veteran mercenaries, to dump tons of drugs into China via the dense jungle. Qin Feng instructed his team not to engage with excessive firepower upon initial contact but to let the enemy enter the jungle.
Once inside, they were to employ their specialized jungle warfare tactics, "striking like a cheetah on all sides," to "tear off a piece of flesh from the enemy's body" with every attack, bleeding them out until they were weakened for a final assault. Qin Feng emphasized his paramount goal: not just victory, but for every single team member to return alive.
The plan also noted that an undercover officer would participate in the drug transport and wear specific clothing for identification. The Cheetah team then deployed and waited for seven days along a side road of the Tea Horse Road, near the Ziyin Mountain pass, their expected route for the drug traffickers. Yan Poyue, while on lookout with Xiao Yun Jie, confirmed their high certainty of the enemy's chosen path. Yue Kong also remained vigilant with Guo Xiaoxiao.
On the enemy's side, Lai, the leader of the drug convoy, reassured his nervous subordinate, Xiao Fei, who was uneasy about meeting armed police, by saying he never knew "how to spell the word scare." As the convoy neared Ziyin Mountain pass, Lai halted, citing the location as an ideal ambush spot. To test for an ambush, Lai initiated "reconnaissance by fire" by opening fire into the pass.
Despite the initial shelling, all Cheetah members, including Yan Poyue, Xiao Yun Jie, Guo Xiaoxiao, Yue Kong, Xu Yang, Mu Qing, and Bai Long, reported being safe. Lai then stalled again, claiming his shoe was loose, a tactic to lure the Cheetah into revealing themselves. A Cheetah report confirmed ten targets, with no undercover markings. Qin Feng gave the order to fire, and the Cheetah team opened up on the drug traffickers.
Xiao Fei urged Lai to retreat, but Lai revealed his true intent: they were not there to deliver goods, as the real shipment was with Xing Tian. Their actual mission was to eliminate Cheetah. The traffickers quickly responded with a devastating mortar barrage. Xiao Yun Jie immediately screamed for Yan Poyue to run, warning him about the mortar fire.
As the shelling intensified, Xiao Yun Jie sustained severe injuries, Bai Long was buried under debris, and Yue Kong's position erupted in flames, a sacrifice he made to protect Guo Xiaoxiao. Guo Xiaoxiao, witnessing the chaos and her comrades falling, hysterically looked into the distance, tearfully stood her ground, and began bravely shooting down several incoming mortar shells.
Yan Poyue desperately tried to bandage Xiao Yun Jie, who kept shouting at him to leave and save himself, explaining that the enemy were expert mortar operators and that both Squad Nine and the narcotics team would be wiped out if Yan Poyue didn't act. Ignoring Xiao Yun Jie's pleas, Yan Poyue silenced him and declared his intention to destroy the enemy's mortar base.
