A flustered Ye Yunshang, carrying a basin of tea, accidentally spilled it on him. Mu Xingchen then revealed to her that his father insisted he return to become the chief of their tribe and marry Yue Ying. He clarified that this agreement was merely a temporary measure, a pretense he made to be able to come back and see her.
He assured her that no matter what, he would never be separated from her. Hearing this, Ye Yunshang’s smile returned. Seeing their affectionate exchange, Ye Qiushi was pleased and invited Mu Xingchen to dinner at his home, thanking him for his help with Yuan Zhi previously. Though Mu Xingchen was still concerned about Wenxuan, he couldn't refuse the kind invitation and agreed to go, with Ye Yunshang assuring him that Chu Tianyao would soon return and Ding Xiang could assist.
Meanwhile, Chu Tianyao returned to the medical clinic and learned that Mu Xingchen had gone to the Ye family for dinner. Feeling resentment, she thought Ye Yunshang was using manipulative tactics despite claiming fair competition, and decided she couldn't miss this opportunity. She picked up a beaker containing a blue-green liquid, then retrieved a sharp dagger from a drawer and dipped its blade into the liquid, causing it to glow green.
Qiao Zhen Tian, noticing her unusual demeanor, asked what was wrong. Chu Tianyao, deflecting his question, told him that Ye Yunshang had gone home, implying that Ye Qiushi was hosting Mu Xingchen as his future son-in-law. Angered by this news, Qiao Zhen Tian immediately rushed to the Ye family residence. At the Ye family dinner, Ye Qiushi welcomed Mu Xingchen warmly, offering him aged wine. Yuan Zhi questioned why the wine, reserved for his sister’s wedding, was being served.
Ye's second wife quickly offered words of blessing, praising Ye Yunshang and Mu Xingchen as a perfect match. Understanding the implication, Yuan Zhi openly objected, calling Mu Xingchen a pervert and warning his sister to "keep her eyes open." Just then, Qiao Zhen Tian arrived and supported Yuan Zhi’s accusations, claiming he had personally seen Mu Xingchen and Chu Tianyao being intimate in a room. Ye Yunshang fiercely defended Mu Xingchen, denying the accusations and stating she knew him well.
Qiao Zhen Tian then attempted to discuss business with Ye Qiushi, warning him about Song Ziqing and the Ying Liu Society potentially targeting the Ye family and suggesting the eradication of the Crand Trading Company. Ignoring the previous conversation, Qiao Zhen Tian challenged Mu Xingchen to a drinking contest. Mu Xingchen tried to decline, citing a need to return to the clinic and his low alcohol tolerance, but Qiao Zhen Tian goaded him.
The challenge led to Qiao Zhen Tian becoming completely intoxicated. He insisted on going to Ye Yunshang’s room, but Mu Xingchen and Yuan Zhi intervened and took him away. Meanwhile, Dashan again attacked Qiao Zheng Kun. As Dashan thought he had succeeded, Shangguan Qing suddenly appeared, throwing a flying knife that wounded Dashan. Dashan managed to escape by deploying a smoke bomb.
Later, Qiao Zhen Tian visited his father, Qiao Zheng Kun, who praised his son’s "luring the enemy deep" strategy. Qiao Zheng Kun explained that he and Shangguan Qing, working together, had confirmed the assassin used Eastern martial arts, suggesting it was the Ying Liu Society retaliating against their family. He advised Qiao Zhen Tian to conduct a targeted investigation of registered Japanese individuals rather than a city-wide search, and to be cautious.
Dashan, having escaped, cursed Shangguan Qing for using a poisoned dagger. Song Ziqing informed Dashan that she had already poisoned Shangguan Wenxuan, as well as many others in the chamber of commerce, and planned to poison Ye Yunshang and Qiao Zhen Tian next to turn them into puppets, which would quickly ruin the Ye family's business. Back at the clinic, Mu Xingchen asked Chu Tianyao about Shangguan Wenxuan's condition.
Chu Tianyao revealed that only the poisoner could cure the Fuling grass poison and that Song Ziqing was the one responsible. Mu Xingchen, initially skeptical, questioned how she knew. Chu Tianyao claimed it was a guess, based on Wenxuan's condition worsening after meeting Song Ziqing, and she further confirmed Song Ziqing’s involvement in manipulating the Crand Trading Company against the Ye family, stating her desire to kill Song Ziqing.
Mu Xingchen advised her against it, asking her to care for Wenxuan while he went to investigate. He suspected Chu Tianyao knew more than she let on, prompting him to secretly follow Song Ziqing, which led him to a Japanese dojo. At the dojo, Song Ziqing greeted Chu Tianyao, confident her plan was unfolding. However, Chu Tianyao suddenly attacked her with a dagger. Song Ziqing, skilled in combat, easily disarmed her.
Dashan then appeared, recognizing the poison on the dagger as similar to the one that afflicted him, and implored Chu Tianyao for a cure. Chu Tianyao realized Dashan was the target her godfather had mentioned and was surprised by his endurance. She questioned why she should save him, to which Dashan promised her safe passage from the dojo if she provided the antidote.
When Chu Tianyao refused, Song Ziqing imprisoned her, threatening the guards with severe consequences if Chu Tianyao escaped. Mu Xingchen then appeared in Chu Tianyao's cell, instructing her to stall their captors by requesting Hibiscus dew as a medicinal ingredient, while he worked on her escape. Following his instructions, Chu Tianyao lured Song Ziqing outside. Mu Xingchen ambushed and subdued Song Ziqing, but Dashan intervened and rescued her, and they both fled.
Mu Xingchen lamented their escape, realizing it would temporarily prevent the removal of Wenxuan's poison. After his return, Mu Xingchen contacted Qiao Zhen Tian. He informed him that Dashan, wounded and poisoned during his confrontation with Qiao Zheng Kun and Shangguan Qing, was confirmed to be the assassin. He also revealed Song Ziqing's complicity. Qiao Zhen Tian immediately ordered a city-wide search for Dashan and Song Ziqing, but they managed to evade capture.
Concurrently, the Ye family faced severe financial troubles orchestrated by Song Ziqing; their bank was besieged by depositors demanding their money, and Ye Yunshang discovered that the funds allocated for medical supplies had been swindled. Amidst their exhaustion from these crises, Ye Yunshang saw Mu Xingchen returning with Chu Tianyao, which ignited her jealousy.
