Grace worked late at her office when a delivery person brought her a coffee she hadn't ordered. Shortly after, Ning Weikai called, asking if she had received it. He told her to look out the window, and she saw his car parked below, indicating he was waiting for her. When she heard him cough, she asked if he had caught a cold. Ning Weikai downplayed it, saying he was fine and would wait for her.
Despite her earlier insistence that she was too busy, Grace sent an office security guard down with Chinese cold medicine and a jacket for Ning Weikai, who felt a surge of warmth from her gesture. Meanwhile, Chen Zheng was still at the Japanese restaurant, deeply intoxicated after Chen Yayi failed to show up. The waiter approached, urging him to settle his bill as the restaurant was closing.
Chen Zheng, too drunk to leave, eventually allowed the waiter to call Chen Yayi from his phone. Chen Yayi, annoyed by his persistent calls from earlier, initially refused to come, claiming she barely knew him. However, when the waiter explained Chen Zheng was drunk and hadn't paid, she grudgingly went to pick him up. Finding him passed out, she tried to get his address to call him a cab, but his drunken state made it impossible.
With no other option, she brought him back to her own apartment. After getting him settled, Chen Yayi tried to review her design lessons, but the flickering lights in her room distracted her. Chen Zheng, who was only feigning sleep, startled her, and they began playfully bickering. Chen Yayi then reminded him that he still owed her money.
During their interaction, Chen Zheng, now more lucid, confessed that he felt comfortable with her and asked if she liked him, to which Chen Yayi admitted she liked him "a little bit" but felt they were unsuited. Chen Zheng then unexpectedly kissed Chen Yayi, and they passionately kissed back. That night, Chen Zheng stayed over at Chen Yayi's apartment. At Wenda, Li Zhicheng requested to see the company's accounts.
Financial Director Hao Ling, looking to Xue Mingtao for guidance, suggested she would send the ledgers to his office later. Li Zhicheng, however, calmly insisted on seeing them immediately. Xue Mingtao, feigning cooperation, accompanied Li Zhicheng to the finance department and instructed Hao Ling to provide all necessary documents to Li Zhicheng at his request. The next morning, Chen Zheng found Chen Yayi had already left for class.
He waited for her outside her classroom and then took her to a rooftop. There, Chen Zheng made a heartfelt confession, deleting all female contacts and social media apps from his phone to prove his sincerity and promising to change his irresponsible habits. Although Chen Yayi expressed hesitation, feeling they were unsuited due to their different backgrounds, she was moved by his efforts and agreed to try dating.
Chen Zheng, delighted, then jokingly expressed his affection for her money-conscious nature, reminding her that he still owed her money. Later, Li Zhicheng and Gu Yanzhi stayed up all night examining Wenda's financial records from the past decade. Gu Yanzhi noted that the accounts appeared spotless, but Li Zhicheng found this suspicious. He argued that Wenda had been struggling for five years and couldn't possibly have such a perfectly clean ledger.
He suspected the accounts were falsified and that Hao Ling, as Xue Mingtao's subordinate, must be keeping a real ledger as leverage against him. Li Zhicheng believed this true ledger was her ultimate weapon for survival if their relationship soured. Recognizing a pattern of repeatedly used numbers in the fake ledgers, Li Zhicheng explained it was a common human subconscious behavior when fabricating large amounts of data. Together, they devised a strategy to uncover the real ledger.
Separately, Xue Mingtao convened a private meeting with other board members, probing if Li Zhicheng had contacted them. Relieved when they denied it, Xue Mingtao hypocritically urged them to vote fairly in the upcoming election for the good of Wenda. He then dismissed the others, but asked Zhao to stay. Xue Mingtao then subtly threatened Zhao, bringing up a past kickback scheme involving an international school uniform contract and implicating Zhao's wife.
He warned Zhao that if he didn't help maintain the current situation at Aida, he would expose him to Li Zhicheng. Zhao's expression turned grim. To get the real ledger, Li Zhicheng orchestrated a "lure the tiger from its mountain" strategy. Gu Yanzhi invited the entire finance department, including Hao Ling, out for a seafood dinner. Despite Hao Ling's initial reluctance and excuses about work, Gu Yanzhi's persistence eventually swayed her.
As the finance team left, Li Zhicheng put the second part of his plan into action: "startling the snake." He had someone briefly enter and then quickly leave the finance department, which Hao Ling noticed as she was locking up. Panicked, she immediately rushed back to check if her secret "Transactions Ledger" was still there. Unbeknownst to her, Li Zhicheng and Gu Yanzhi were observing her reaction via surveillance, confirming the existence and location of the real ledger.
Li Zhicheng then instructed that the real ledger be handed to Gu Yanzhi immediately for a third-party audit to reveal the extent of Xue Mingtao's embezzlement. Meanwhile, Lin Qian, frustrated with repetitive cleaning tasks, expressed her eagerness to learn the craft of Snowy Smoke silk. She then learned from her Senior Sister, who was deeply upset, that her husband (Lin Qian's Senior Brother) had left the Geng family household to pursue business in Hainan.
Her Senior Sister confided in Lin Qian about her husband leaving after seven years of marriage, expressing that she didn't realize seven years could be so easily forgotten. Teacher Geng, observing her Senior Sister's distress, called Lin Qian to the courtyard and instructed her to gaze at the sky. Though perplexed, Lin Qian complied. As night fell, Teacher Geng appeared and asked Lin Qian what she had observed.
Lin Qian described the sky's transformation over time, drawing a parallel to Snowy Smoke silk, which also changes and becomes more beautiful with age. She mused that time, not the Geng family, was the true creator of the silk's unique patterns. Lin Qian then asked Teacher Geng if she was angry about her Senior Brother's departure. Teacher Geng calmly replied that anger would not change the facts.
She taught Lin Qian that only by emptying one's mind can one see what is most important, and then revealed that her own husband had also left her years ago. She imparted a profound lesson to Lin Qian: true love is about supporting your partner's choices and allowing them to be who they want, even if it means letting go. Concluding their conversation, Teacher Geng granted Lin Qian a much-needed break.
Later that evening, Li Zhicheng and Lin Qian enjoyed a tranquil boat ride under the night sky. Lin Qian shared Teacher Geng's wisdom about love being an act of support and fulfillment. She thanked Li Zhicheng for enabling her to leave Aida and pursue her personal aspirations, moving him to reach out and tenderly hold her hand. The next day, Wenda's board meeting was held for the CEO election. Zhao appeared burdened, while Xue Mingtao exuded confidence.
After the votes were cast, a board member announced the results: none of the three candidates had secured more than 50% of the votes. Consequently, the election was declared invalid, much to Xue Mingtao's subtle delight, as a faint, triumphant smile played on his lips.
