Oh! My Emperor Season 2 Episode 16 Recap
> Oh! My Emperor Season 2 Recap
During a council meeting, it became apparent that Chu Shengnan was pregnant. When pressed about the father, Bai Wuchen instinctively moved to raise his hand but was forcibly restrained by Chu Shengnan, who vehemently denied the pregnancy and threatened everyone present to keep the matter secret to avoid public ridicule. Her highly agitated reactions, however, only served to make the truth obvious to all.
A minister then suggested that the most appropriate course of action would be for the Emperor to bestow a marriage decree. Beitang Tang even proposed a grand six-person wedding. While the involved parties seemed joyful about their impending unions, Su Xunxian felt a growing sense of unease, believing something significant was about to happen. Meanwhile, the Grandma-Empress visited Wangyan in prison, strictly instructing the guards not to speak of her visit to anyone, fearing rumors and unnecessary trouble.
Once alone with Wangyan, she confessed that her heart had been restless because she had not seen him die. She then struck him across the face, declaring it was for her deceased son. She recounted her sacrifices for the Orion State, her distant marriage, and her climb to power, only to be betrayed by Wangyan, who had promised not to harm her family. Yet, to eliminate the Ophiuchus as a threat, he had harmed her own flesh and blood.
Now, with him trying to hurt her grandson, she vowed she could no longer tolerate his existence. The Grandma-Empress admitted that she had always felt like a mere pawn in the Orion State's grand schemes, dismissing the so-called rich and splendid life she had been given. She claimed to have only truly experienced happiness as a person when her own child was born, a happiness Wangyan cruelly destroyed.
She declared that from that day forward, she would forge her own path as the Grandma-Empress of the Zodiac State. Wangyan scoffed at her words, calling it a pipe dream and asserting that she was just a small part of a larger plan to destroy the Zodiac State. He vowed to take his secrets to his grave, leaving her descendants to be buried alongside them. Enraged, the Grandma-Empress seized Wangyan by the throat, demanding he clarify his threats.
At that moment, Wangyan used a spell, possessing the Grandma-Empress's body. The possessed Grandma-Empress then called for the guards and ordered Wangyan's original body to be removed, stating he had made a "deathbed struggle" but she had "subdued him." Beitang Yi and Luo Feifei sought the Grandma-Empress's permission for their wedding. The possessed Grandma-Empress readily approved, setting the date for the eighth of next month.
She displayed an uncharacteristic warmth towards Luo Feifei, praising her cleverness and even requesting her handmade dumplings, despite her known fish allergy. Luo Feifei found this odd, as the Grandma-Empress had collapsed from a fish allergy after eating her dumplings just recently, but she attributed it to forgetfulness due to old age. Elsewhere, Xia Bing gazed at a wooden horse in the courtyard, her thoughts drifting to the spirited horses of the desert.
Beitang Tang, sensing her homesickness, spoke tenderly of how much she must miss her hometown, regardless of how much fun she might find elsewhere. He earnestly promised to always stay by her side, take her to interesting places, and enjoy delicious food. He even envisioned them having children together and visiting her homeland in a few years. Though initially taken aback by his forwardness, Xia Bing allowed Beitang Tang to playfully ride her on the wooden horse.
Beitang Yi later gathered everyone to formalize the wedding plans. He announced that he and Beitang Tang would be getting married together on the 8th of next month, along with Luo Feifei and Xia Bing. A minister expressed concern about the national treasury regarding the multi-person wedding, but Beitang Yi insisted on providing the very best for Luo Feifei, declaring his unwavering devotion.
Su Xunxian generously offered to cover half the wedding expenses to ensure Beitang Yi only married Luo Feifei. Chu Shengnan, attempting to embody a gentle demeanor for Bai Wuchen, revealed their decision to postpone their own wedding until after their child was born, opting instead for a sightseeing tour first due to her shyness. Despite this, Beitang Yi ultimately affirmed his commitment to a grand wedding for himself and Luo Feifei.
As preparations continued, Master Mei presented rare treasures from the national treasury as betrothal gifts for Luo Feifei, describing each one in elaborate detail. Luo Feifei, however, seemed unimpressed, even making an offhand remark about "Monkey Sun" when presented with an item from Aolai State. In contrast, Su Xunxian presented Luo Feifei with an array of delicious foods from across the capital, which she genuinely appreciated.
Beitang Tang approached Xia Bing to discuss their upcoming wedding, expressing his desire to give her nothing but the best. Xia Bing, however, remained distant, asserting that their marriage was merely a political tool for diplomatic relations between their two states, making her personal feelings irrelevant. Beitang Tang sincerely countered that he was grateful for the alliance, as it allowed him the joy of marrying her. He reiterated his happiness at their union, but Xia Bing remained somewhat detached before making to leave.
