Mr. Fighting Episode 19 Recap
> Mr. Fighting Recap
Fu Zi wrestled with whether to tell Hao Zeyu the truth about Teng Dan, feeling a deep sympathy for him given their years together like family. She felt it was the right thing to do. Meanwhile, Hao Zeyu called Fu Zi via video, determined to apologize to Teng Dan and demonstrating various ways to do so, which made Fu Zi smile. Fu Zi believed that Teng Dan would understand his sincerity just by his presence, without words.
Hao Zeyu revealed that Niu Meili's recent detention had made him reflect; he admitted he had always refused to acknowledge Teng Dan's profound importance to him, but the thought of Teng Dan being in Niu Meili's place made him realize he would save her without hesitation, understanding that true importance is revealed in life-or-death situations. He felt he had finally let go of his resistance. They agreed to visit Teng Dan together the following day.
The next morning, Niu Meili was awakened by a phone call and was instantly stunned and distraught. The news was that Teng Dan had committed suicide due to unbearable pain from her illness. Fu Zi, hearing this, panicked and fled. Niu Meili, looking haggard and unkempt, hadn't even applied lipstick; her eyes were empty.
Fu Zi then rushed to Hao Zeyu's house, finding him meticulously dressed, wearing a sweater Teng Dan had bought for him, ready to apologize to Teng Dan. With great reluctance and a heavy heart, Fu Zi blocked his path and, after a long hesitation, delivered the devastating news of Teng Dan's death. Hao Zeyu found it impossible to accept. Overwhelmed by distress, Fu Zi left Hao Zeyu's home, wandering aimlessly on the streets, feeling increasingly weak.
Despite her limited interactions with Teng Dan—once to deceive her for Hao Zeyu's sake and once to ask for resources—Fu Zi felt an unforgettable heartache for both Teng Dan and Hao Zeyu. She collapsed from low blood sugar and was hospitalized. Fu Zi's father rushed to the hospital, initially scolding her for not eating breakfast but revealing his deep concern by giving her chocolate. Upon learning of Teng Dan's death, his hand froze.
Hao Zeyu, filled with guilt and self-reproach, waited outside the hospital, unable to enter. He felt everyone around him was unlucky. Niu Meili was equally distraught; she detested hospitals but had accompanied Teng Dan there countless times that year, even finding a sliver of hope in those visits. Her mind was a blank, and she questioned whether concealing the truth from Hao Zeyu had been right.
Fu Zi's father tried to comfort Niu Meili, assuring her there was no right or wrong, as those who choose to leave in such a manner wish for their loved ones to live well. He ultimately withdrew his hand, seeing Niu Meili's increasing hollowness. Consumed by grief, Hao Zeyu locked himself in a wardrobe, drinking in the confined space, surrounded by memories of Teng Dan.
He recalled his own period of decadence after his father's death, when he even considered flipping a coin to decide his method of suicide; it was Teng Dan who stayed by his side, patiently comforting and advising him. He pulled out that very coin Teng Dan had left him. Concerned for Hao Zeyu, Fu Zi, Niu Meili, and Fu Zi's father worried he might also "think things through" and harm himself.
Hao Zeyu, with a face full of exhaustion, sought out Ren Jiajia, Teng Dan's daughter. Jiajia angrily revealed that Teng Dan had been suffering from late-stage cancer, in such severe pain that she was rolling on the ground days before her suicide. Teng Dan had returned home specifically to hide her illness from Hao Zeyu.
Jiajia also disclosed that Teng Dan had been planning to transfer Hao Zeyu's contract to someone else and had even used her own frail health to beg for his role in a movie, confirming that Teng Dan's entire focus was on Hao Zeyu. Jiajia berated Hao Zeyu, calling him useless, and noted that Teng Dan had left a will only for him, excluding her own daughter and husband.
Hao Zeyu received a call from an insurance company, informing him he was a beneficiary of a policy Teng Dan had taken out. This news intensified his complex emotions and pain, as he realized Teng Dan had always kept him in her thoughts. He later approached Teng Dan's husband to apologize and offer him the insurance payout, but the husband refused, stating he respected Teng Dan's decisions and choices.
Niu Meili brought food to Hao Zeyu's door, knocking repeatedly with no answer. Worried he might be suicidal, she was about to force the door open when Hao Zeyu returned from outside. He questioned Niu Meili, asking why Teng Dan made her choices, why she had accepted him, and why they had conspired to lie to him.
Niu Meili explained that she and Teng Dan were close friends since they were eighteen, asserting that for Teng Dan, she would accept anything, "even an atomic bomb," let alone Hao Zeyu. She urged him to recover and not wallow in despair. As Hao Zeyu ate, tears streamed down his face while he remembered Teng Dan's words during his father's passing: that besides family, there are friends, and no matter what happens, living well is the most important thing.
He later asked Fu Zi if she considered him a scoundrel, unworthy even of apologizing. Zhao Xiaobei prepared a meal for Niu Meili, but she couldn't eat, asking if she was an incompetent agent. Zhao Xiaobei admitted she might appear unreliable but was kind and upright, which is why Teng Dan had confidently entrusted Hao Zeyu to her. Reinvigorated, Niu Meili resolved to pull herself together. While she might not sacrifice her life for a friend, she would fulfill Teng Dan's last wish. Hao Zeyu, however, did not attend Teng Dan's memorial service.
