Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities Episode 34 Recap
> Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities Recap
Fei Lian confronted Yu Huan about Xiao's whereabouts, having learned that Yu Huan threw her into the water, where she was likely poisoned by the Algae of Red Ghost and turned into stone. Fei Lian felt Yu Huan had become ruthless and unrecognizable, suspecting he was being coerced. Yu Huan, however, reminded Fei Lian that he had previously pleaded with Lord Zhi Zhe to give Fei Lian another chance.
Yu Huan explained that Cangliu was far darker than Fei Lian imagined. He revealed that Lord Zhi Zhe, the true ruler superior to the five masters, had given him the Algae of Red Ghost as a final chance to prevent Su Mo from entering Ghost and Deity Abyss and releasing the Dragon Deity. Yu Huan emphasized the struggles of those from humble backgrounds in Cangliu, needing to be stronger to survive.
He recounted being defeated by Su Mo multiple times and abandoned by Master Peng, adding that Master Luo and Master Lang despised him. He explained that he had sought refuge with Lord Zhi Zhe to ensure the safety of himself and his elder sister, willing to pay any price to protect them. Despite Fei Lian's warnings about the danger, Yu Huan departed for Stranded Dragon Abyss.
Meanwhile, Bai Ying and Su Mo found themselves trapped in a strange, spooky environment within Stranded Dragon Abyss, feeling a powerful mind force. A pair of eyes appeared, which Su Mo believed was guiding them through the illusion to find clues related to the Stranded Dragon Rope. The illusion transported them back seven thousand years, showing Queen Bai Wei at Dragon Silk Palace. Chun Huang introduced his sister, Ya Ren, to Bai Wei.
They quickly became acquainted, with Chun Huang often preparing special meals for Bai Wei, like fresh seafood and hot fish soup, knowing Yunhuang people preferred warm food. Bai Wei shared fascinating stories of Yunhuang with Chun Huang, tales of flower seas and moon orchids he had never encountered. Ya Ren later presented Bai Wei with a Water Protection Pearl, explaining Chun Huang had expended much magic to create it, allowing her to move freely underwater.
Bai Wei, touched by the gesture, wanted to thank Chun Huang, but Ya Ren urged her to accept it as a token of friendship. In the present, Su Mo and Bai Ying observed how close Bai Wei and Ya Ren had been, wondering what could have caused Ya Ren to later appear in the Misty Forest as Tu Luo, harboring such hatred for Bai Wei.
Bai Ying again felt the distinct sensation of being watched by a pair of eyes within the illusion, a feeling Su Mo echoed, theorizing that the vision was a deliberate hint about past events that might mirror their own future. Following Chun Huang's orders, Lord Ming Huo performed a Quanxian ritual for Bai Wei's deceased companions, wishing them eternal peace.
Later, Chun Huang took Bai Wei to the Dragon Cave, a forbidden area, where he revealed the Dragon Deity was undergoing a bone change and had just shed a dragon's tooth. Bai Wei expressed homesickness and a desire to return to Lang Gan. Chun Huang, having developed feelings for her, tried to dissuade her, citing the dangerous high tides in Biluo Sea and suggesting she consider Quanxian her home. Bai Wei responded that "it's not the same."
As a gesture of gratitude before her inevitable departure, Bai Wei brewed "Nian Gui" wine from Bixin flowers for Chun Huang. He tried the spicy wine, explaining that merpeople could not consume alcohol. Bai Wei then gave Chun Huang a letter, asking him to deliver it to Lang Gan in Wanghai Province so her family would come to retrieve her. Su Mo, in the present, surmised that the illusion would end once Lang Gan finally appeared.
Soon after, the mysterious pair of eyes reappeared, signaling a shift in the illusion. Lang Gan arrived, having tracked Bai Wei using astrology rather than any letter from her. Bai Wei introduced Chun Huang, the Sea Emperor who saved her life, to Lang Gan. Chun Huang respectfully withdrew to allow them privacy. Lang Gan expressed frustration, claiming merpeople had been unfriendly, imprisoning him, and even telling him Bai Wei had found someone else.
He urged her to leave immediately, but Bai Wei vehemently denied liking anyone else, insisting the merpeople had treated her kindly. Convinced by her pleas, Lang Gan stayed. During a subsequent banquet, Lang Gan revealed that Cangliu forces had attacked Wanghai Province, injuring his royal father, and he needed to return to lead the counter-attack. Seeing Bai Wei's distress for her people, Chun Huang pledged to help them repel the Cangliu invaders.
Chun Huang then approached the Dragon Deity, requesting a dragon tooth to forge a Splitting Sword for Lang Gan. The Dragon Deity recognized Chun Huang's intent to use the sword to unlock the Lazurite Lock, which sealed the ancient powers of Attack and Protection. The deity warned that unleashing these powers could lead to global turbulence and eternal damnation for Chun Huang.
However, Chun Huang insisted, declaring his faith in Bai Wei as the kindest woman with a heart for all people, believing she would bring peace to Yunhuang and forge a lasting friendship between Quanxian and Kongsang. The Dragon Deity conceded but imparted an ancient revelation: "the only way to fight against the void is to create and to safeguard," leaving Chun Huang to comprehend its meaning.
After returning, Chun Huang explained to Lang Gan and Bai Wei about the two ancient powers, Attack and Protection, which were sealed after someone in the past unified Yunhuang but couldn't control them. Chun Huang then presented them with the Splitting Sword, forged from the Dragon Deity's tooth, to unlock the Lazurite Lock and harness these powers. While Lang Gan expressed gratitude, he secretly regarded Chun Huang as a love rival.
In the present, Su Mo noticed that the scar on his hand, sustained while acquiring the Splitting Sword in Jiuyi Mountain, matched that of the Chun Huang in the illusion. He also recognized the Dragon Deity's prophecy about "creation and protection" as the same one Na Sheng had foretold. Su Mo found the similarities between their present and the past alarming but asserted that he did not believe in predetermined fate.
The illusion continued, narrating how Lang Gan and Bai Wei, wielding the Splitting Sword, opened the Lazurite Lock on Jing Lake island. The ancient powers of Attack and Protection were unleashed, manifesting as the Heavenly Ring and Earthly Ring, which acknowledged Lang Gan and Bai Wei as their masters. Together, they unified Yunhuang, pacified the Seven Seas, and established Jing City as their capital.
A decade later, Ya Ren arrived as Quanxian's envoy to congratulate Kongsang, proposing an alliance and offering Nian Gui wine to celebrate, though Lang Gan declined. Bai Wei took Ya Ren aside to reminisce. Bai Wei spoke of the hardships of war, thanking Chun Huang and Ya Ren for their past assistance. She then inquired about Ya Ren's "transformation." Ya Ren revealed she had transformed for a prince from a foreign land – none other than Lang Gan himself.
She had rescued him from Biluo Sea when he was severely injured and, in his delirium, he had mistaken Ya Ren for Bai Wei, falling into a relationship with her. However, once he fully recovered, he left, stating that Bai Wei was the only one in his heart. Ya Ren confided that while she transformed for him, she also "missed out for eternity," and the heartbreak of loving someone who did not belong to her caused her immense pain. Chun Huang, witnessing Ya Ren's agony, demanded to know the identity of the person who had caused her such suffering.
