Sun Binyu hosts a dinner party at his home, inviting Liang Chen, Ding Jiayun, and Director He. Lu Jing, who lives nearby, makes several trips to Sun Binyu’s home under various pretexts—borrowing vinegar, garlic, and even a pan—to see Liang Chen. During his visits, he observes the comfortable dynamic between Liang Chen and Ding Jiayun, who has cooked the entire meal and receives high praise from the guests.
Later that evening, as Liang Chen and Ding Jiayun prepare to leave together, Lu Jing, who is heading downstairs to throw out the trash, sees them. Noting that she is not dressed warmly, he takes off his own coat and puts it around her shoulders. He then makes a pointed comment that she should wear more, as she is "not as strong and healthy as young people," before walking away.
The next day, a distracted Lu Jing plays chess with Sun Binyu, subtly steering the conversation toward Liang Chen and Ding Jiayun. He asks why a singer and an actor would be so close, prompting Sun Binyu to suggest they might have romantic feelings for each other. Shortly after, Liang Chen arrives to return the coat Lu Jing lent her, surprised to find him there.
Lu Jing accepts the coat and teases her, questioning the "strong wind" that made the gesture necessary and referencing her earlier joke about wanting a "big hug." He remarks that she is "pretty and sweet-voiced," and when she dismisses his words as a joke, he coolly retorts that he tends to take things seriously, causing her to blush. As Liang Chen leaves, Lu Jing offers to walk her downstairs, using his trash as an excuse.
In the elevator, he notices her staring at the alarm button and correctly guesses that she is fantasizing about the elevator malfunctioning. When he points it out, she defensively asks if she should be staring at him instead, to which he calmly replies, "Sure," leaving her flustered. Meanwhile, Liang Chen needs a partner for an upcoming live stream promotion for "Beautiful Soul." Her manager, Liu Yiqing, contacts the popular gamer "Herman," who is Lu Jing's public alias.
Unbeknownst to them, Lu Jing is also "Taro," the expert gamer who has been training Liang Chen's in-game avatar. Initially, Lu Jing refuses the offer. He confides in his roommate that he is waiting for Liang Chen to become desperate enough to beg him. After the rejection, Liang Chen laments to Sun Binyu. Ding Jiayun then learns of her predicament and calls to offer his help. Just as Liang Chen is about to accept, a call comes through from "Herman." Lu Jing has changed his mind and agrees to the collaboration, securing his spot as her partner.
