Long Feiye, in a black bathing robe, sensed Han Yunxi lingering outside his chamber and called her in. Caught trying to discover a hidden mark on him, Han Yunxi fabricated an excuse, explaining that the entire mansion knew she had been driven out of Moon Pavilion. She expressed her fear of being cast out by Consort Dowager Yi, who despised her origins, leaving her with no dignity.

Boldly, she asked him to treat her better to secure her position, offering her medical and poison skills as a way to be useful. Long Feiye coldly dismissed her, asserting that his mansion had many imperial and poison doctors, rendering her skills useless. After she left, Han Yunxi silently vowed to prove her worth, frustrated by his inaccessibility which prevented her from checking for the mark.

Meanwhile, in Herb-Ghost Valley, Gu Qishao and Bai Su discussed Long Feiye’s surprisingly swift recovery. Gu Qishao recalled that during Long Feiye's previous search of the valley, his skilled poison doctors could not overcome a minor poison barrier. He wondered if Long Feiye now had an even more formidable poison expert by his side.

Bai Su, unconcerned, affirmed that Gu Qishao's true objective had been achieved, as Long Feiye would now likely attribute the recent murder cases to the Crown Prince. Later, Han Yunxi discovered an old veil she used to wear due to carbuncles on her face, along with a medical record, among her belongings. When a maid offered to tidy her things, Han Yunxi insisted on handling it herself, quickly hiding the medical record to prevent its discovery.

Elsewhere, at the arrangement of Beili’s Crown Prince Jun Yizheng, Gu Qishao rode to meet Princess Chu Qingge of Xiqiu. Chu Qingge stated her motive for cooperation: Prince Qin had killed her father and slaughtered her soldiers, plunging Xiqiu into turmoil and forcing her into a political marriage. She sought Gu Qishao's help for intelligence, particularly on the imperial harem's power factions. Gu Qishao agreed, requesting palace intelligence in return, and gave her a gift of refined poisons for self-defense.

He arranged future meetings at Herb-Ghost Valley, all while concealing his true identity as Jun Yixie, a prince of Beili. He then revealed that their mutual enemy, Long Feiye, would soon face difficulties from the ongoing "case of the minister of the Grand Court," which would serve as a catalyst for his downfall, given Emperor Tianhui's existing apprehension towards the popular prince.

In Beili, Crown Prince Jun Yizheng reported to his mother that he had successfully persuaded Chu Qingge to accept the political marriage to destabilize Tianning. He assured her of his safety during his secret trip to Xiqiu, citing the many Beili spies among Xiqiu's high-ranking officials. He explained that Xiqiu was now under Beili's influence and that they could control Chu Qingge by threatening her brother, the Crown Prince of Xiqiu.

His mother approved, and when she asked who would assist Chu Qingge in Tianning, Jun Yizheng named his royal brother, Jun Yixie, vowing to keep him busy. As Chu Qingge neared the capital, she discussed Gu Qishao with her nanny, Mammy Lin. She found him skilled but uninhibited, sensing that Jun Yizheng might struggle to control him.

Acknowledging the dangers of the suspicious Emperor Tianhui and the treacherous harem, Chu Qingge passionately declared her marriage was solely for revenge against Long Feiye. She instructed Mammy Lin to have their spies monitor the case of the minister of the Grand Court to identify Long Feiye's enemies as potential allies and to contact Gu Qishao directly at Herb-Ghost Valley if needed. Han Yunxi spent her days studying the unique poisons described in her bracelet's medical records.

Shifting focus from trying to impress Long Feiye, she devised a new plan to see the mark on him. She decided to use a colorless, odorless Blister Poison on his bed, which would cause blisters on his lower body and force him to seek her medical treatment, giving her the perfect opportunity to examine his legs. Unbeknownst to her, Long Feiye was receiving a report from Chu Xifeng.

He learned that Han Yunxi had remained in her pavilion, while the Crown Prince frequented a brothel and the Grand Marshal was in seclusion. Long Feiye deduced they believed he would not expose the secret of the gu-abetted men. Xifeng also reported that Gu Qishao had evaded their trackers on the night Long Feiye was injured. Shortly after, Long Feiye was ambushed upon leaving his mansion.

Recognizing the assassins as the Crown Prince's men, he deemed pursuit a waste of time and returned to Moon Pavilion, where he found Han Yunxi emerging from his room. She claimed she was retrieving a lost medicine bottle, but Long Feiye forbade her from entering his chamber without permission again. Once inside, he detected an unusual scent from his bed and ordered Senior Maid Zhao to change all the bedding, unknowingly foiling Han Yunxi's plan due to his extreme mysophobia.

Eager to learn more, Han Yunxi questioned servants about Long Feiye’s private life, asking if he had concubines or visited brothels. She learned he had extreme mysophobia and preferred to be alone, leading her to speculate he might have a hidden illness. This gossip reached Consort Dowager Yi, who, exasperated, summoned Han Yunxi.

She lectured her on royal etiquette, forcing her to practice walking with a tea tray on her head, and ordered her to change Long Feiye’s clothes and wash his feet that evening. Despite her outward protests, Han Yunxi was inwardly pleased by the opportunity. That evening, Han Yunxi entered Long Feiye's chamber to wash his feet as commanded. Long Feiye dismissed the supervising maid, asserting he would teach his own wife.

As Han Yunxi meticulously removed two layers of his socks, he playfully kicked her, sending her sprawling. A nearby maid interpreted his prank as a sign of affection. Internally, Han Yunxi cataloged the parts of Long Feiye’s body she had seen, blushing as she realized her thoughts had strayed beyond professional detachment. Later, Long Feiye smiled subtly in his bath, recalling the incident, while Han Yunxi lay in her bed, replaying the moments in her mind with a newfound shyness.

Days later, Emperor Tianhui tasked Long Feiye with personally welcoming Princess Chu Qingge. This triggered a flashback to the war with Xiqiu a month prior. His forces were surrounded and outnumbered. A loyal soldier urged him to retreat, but Long Feiye insisted on leading the charge. The Xiqiu Emperor mocked him, revealing his true goal was not Emperor Tianhui, but a hidden being who could turn ordinary people into formidable soldiers.

He demanded Long Feiye surrender, but Long Feiye fiercely refused. As he fought, he underwent a painful transformation. The Xiqiu Emperor recognized him with dawning horror as the legendary "gu-abetted man" he had sought his entire life, and was promptly killed. Enduring immense pain, Long Feiye single-handedly eliminated the remaining enemy forces.
