Han Yunxi, the eldest legitimate daughter of the Han family, endured mockery throughout her childhood due to a toxic carbuncle on her face. Despite this, she remained optimistic and strong-willed. Neglected by her father and tormented by her stepmother and stepsister, she dedicated herself to studying medicine, eventually mastering the skills to heal her own affliction.

On the wedding day of Prince Qin, Long Feiye, and Han Yunxi, the bridal sedan arrived at the Prince's Mansion, but Long Feiye was nowhere to be seen. Prince Qin, known for his refined demeanor and martial prowess, was celebrated as a war god after his recent victory against Xiqiu.

His mother, Consort Dowager Yi, believed a suitable wife should be of high standing and beneficial to his ambitions, like Baili Mingxiang, not Han Yunxi, who was from an imperial physician's family and whose appearance was widely considered unsightly. As expected, the Consort Dowager's butler declared that the auspicious time had passed and the wedding was off.

However, Han Yunxi, clad in her bridal attire, calmly countered that the marriage was decreed by the Emperor himself, a statement that clearly displeased the eavesdropping Consort Dowager. Refusing to be humiliated, Han Yunxi boldly stepped out of the sedan, tossing her red veil aside to reveal her cured, beautiful face. She walked with her back straight directly into the mansion. Inside, Han Yunxi politely greeted Consort Dowager Yi, who had attempted to defy the imperial decree.

Though furious, the Consort Dowager maintained her composure and, after a brief, tense exchange, instructed the maids to escort Han Yunxi to the wedding chamber. In the wedding chamber, Han Yunxi waited for a long time, growing drowsy. Suddenly, she heard a noise and peered outside, only to collide with a masked man who instantly grasped her throat.

Han Yunxi tried to warn him of her identity as Prince Qin's wife, but before she could finish, the individual, severely wounded and poisoned, collapsed onto her. Determined not to let anyone die on her wedding day, Han Yunxi prepared to treat his injuries. Unbeknownst to her, the man was Long Feiye, her newlywed husband, and this was not their first encounter.

A month prior, Han Yunxi, her face still afflicted and hidden by a veil, was painstakingly climbing a cliff, searching for the rare Shenyou Grass. At the summit, a masked Long Feiye led his men to a secret location to find a scripture and information about the elusive Poison Tribe. They discovered an underground chamber where experiments were being conducted on children using the Poison Tribe's gu-poison formula. Long Feiye and his men swiftly eliminated the culprits.

He hesitated to kill a maddened, gu-poisoned child, instead severing the boy's chains. They found only one volume of the scripture, leading Long Feiye to deduce that the Crown Prince must have hidden the rest. He decided they must take the gu-poisoned child with them to find the Poison Tribe. While Long Feiye was fighting off remaining assailants, he was knocked from the cliff, sending rocks tumbling down. The commotion startled Han Yunxi below, causing her to lose her grip.

As they both fell, Long Feiye caught her in mid-air, and they landed safely at the base of the cliff. The next morning, Han Yunxi awoke to Long Feiye pointing a sword at her. After she explained her purpose for being there, she seized an opportunity to incapacitate him with a self-made poison powder.

Noticing the scripture tucked inside his clothes, Han Yunxi, an avid student of medicine, was fascinated by the toxic herbs it described and took it as compensation for him having seen her face. When his deputy, Chu Xifeng, arrived, a paralyzed Long Feiye instructed him to rendezvous with General Baili and ensure the gu-poisoned child was cared for before setting off in pursuit of Han Yunxi. He cornered her near Herb-Ghost Valley, a place shrouded in a toxic mist.

To escape, Han Yunxi, having taken a homemade antidote, plunged into the mist, leaving Long Feiye blocked outside. Inside the valley, a man in red appeared behind her, curious about the pill she had swallowed. This was Gu Qishao, the charming and unrestrained Master of Herb-Ghost Valley. Discerning by scent alone that her antidote was self-refined, he was intrigued and mischievously pointed her toward a path that led her deeper into his domain.

Gu Qishao secretly observed Han Yunxi, noting her compassion when she tended to an injured rabbit and her advanced knowledge of poisons. He also recognized that the man pursuing her was no ordinary person. Intrigued, Gu Qishao decided to test her. Meanwhile, back in the capital, Emperor Tianhui feigned illness upon news of Prince Qin's return. Crown Prince Long Tianmo attempted to deliver a decree, but Chu Xifeng blocked him, claiming Long Feiye was unwell.

The suspicious Crown Prince insisted on seeing him, only to be sharply rebuked by an emerging Long Feiye. Later, during Prince Qin's grand procession into the city, Han Yunxi's younger stepsister, Han Ruoxue, openly declared her desire to marry him. In Herb-Ghost Valley, Gu Qishao challenged Han Yunxi to find three specific herbs—Yimi Flower, Guidaqiang, and Shenyou Grass—within two hours, promising to grant a wish if she succeeded. With her exceptional knowledge, she found them all.

Her wish was for an abundance of Shenyou Grass. After she left, Gu Qishao's maids, Bai Su and Zhuyu, worried she would expose their location and suggested killing her. But Gu Qishao, having taken a liking to her, instead commanded them to allow Han Yunxi free entry to the valley in the future. Han Yunxi returned quietly to the Han Mansion, only to be confronted by her father, Imperial Doctor Han Cong'an, her stepmother Mrs. Xu, and stepsister Han Ruoxue.

They falsely accused her of staying out all night with a man. To prove her innocence, Han Yunxi revealed her scarred face, arguing no man would be interested. Enraged and humiliated, Han Cong'an slapped her across the carbuncle and ordered her to kneel in punishment. Forced to kneel before a portrait of her late mother, Tianxin, Han Yunxi felt utterly hopeless about her father. However, her aunt discovered the Shenyou Grass and, ecstatic, rushed to prepare the medicine. Han Cong'an noticed Yunxi's written prescription, marveling that she had inherited her mother's talent, yet he still secretly tampered with the concoction.
