News of Ma Xiaoxiao successfully passing her Peking University re-examination filled Yi Dongdong and his friends with joy. They cheered for her, with Sun Falcon eagerly suggesting they go celebrate by watching a video. However, Yi Dongdong, serious about his studies, declined, stating he needed to focus on reading.

He admitted that despite his recent efforts, his grades were still not where he wanted them to be, mentioning that his teacher said he was still ten points away from his goal of getting into Peking University. Ma Xiaoxiao then went to speak with teacher Su, revealing that she did not wish to attend Peking University.

She explained that she was unwilling to study the Chinese Literature major designated for her recommended admission and had decided to take the college entrance examination instead. Teacher Su reminded her that Peking University had always been her first choice, but Ma Xiaoxiao clarified that she hadn't known the recommended admission required her to accept a specific major. Teacher Su acknowledged that this was due to new education reform regulations implemented in May, which he hadn't fully understood himself.

Ma Xiaoxiao remained firm, stating she wanted to choose her own major and would take the exam independently. Teacher Su, respecting her decision, advised her to diligently review and prepare for the college entrance examination. As Ma Xiaoxiao left teacher Su's office, she ran into Yi Dongdong. She offered to lend him her study notes. While they chatted, a metal dustpan was thrown from an upper floor by LV Ju, a classmate, aiming for Ma Xiaoxiao.

Yi Dongdong reacted swiftly, shielding Ma Xiaoxiao and injuring his hand. Furious, Ma Xiaoxiao confronted LV Ju, who had been secretly following her. LV Ju confessed her anger, explaining that Ma Xiaoxiao's transfer to their class had demoted her to second place, and then Ma Xiaoxiao was the sole candidate recommended for Peking University. She was enraged to learn that Ma Xiaoxiao, after successfully passing, had decided to forgo the admission.

LV Ju felt that Ma Xiaoxiao had "stolen her quota." Ma Xiaoxiao firmly stated that passing the exam was her own ability, and the choice to give up the admission was her right. She warned LV Ju that her reckless act could have caused serious injury to Yi Dongdong and could jeopardize her own eligibility for the college entrance examination if reported.

She advised LV Ju to spend her time studying and preparing for the exam rather than plotting against others. Yi Dongdong was shocked to hear that Ma Xiaoxiao had abandoned her Peking University recommendation. Ma Xiaoxiao encouraged Yi Dongdong, telling him that studying requires effective methods and that he shouldn't be discouraged by a temporary lack of progress, assuring him that it was not too late to work hard. They then headed home.

Meanwhile, Zeng Xing was making arrangements for his overseas studies. Grandma Zeng offered to host a farewell banquet, but Zeng Xing preferred to celebrate after he had successfully completed his studies and returned home. At home, Ma Xiaoxiao informed her family that she had forfeited her Peking University recommended admission and had already signed the necessary paperwork. Aunt Niu and Ma Yingjun were incredulous, criticizing her for making such a significant decision without consulting them.

Ma Xiaoxiao defended her choice, asserting that she disliked the assigned Chinese Literature major and hadn't yet decided on a new one, but that she was responsible for her own life. Ma Yingjun, frustrated, blamed Aunt Niu for spoiling Ma Xiaoxiao. Inspired by Ma Xiaoxiao's determination, Yi Dongdong resolved to dedicate himself entirely to his studies. His family, including Hao Pushi, rallied around him, preparing his room and cheering him on to succeed in college.

He studied late into the night, finding encouragement by looking at Ma Xiaoxiao's notebook whenever he felt tired. Late that night, Ou Xiaojian arrived at the dock, intent on finding evidence of A FEI's smuggling activities. He covertly followed A FEI and his associates to a room holding illicit goods. Ou Xiaojian discovered a watch from a box and meticulously photographed it as evidence.

However, A FEI and his men unexpectedly returned, forcing Ou Xiaojian to hide by submerging himself in the water. This caused him to get thoroughly soaked and develop a fever. While Yi Dongdong was engrossed in his studies at home, he heard Ma Xiaoxiao's voice. He quickly went to her, finding her struggling to help a drenched and feverish Ou Xiaojian. Together, they managed to get Ou Xiaojian back to his house.

Inside, Yi Dongdong helped Ou Xiaojian change into dry clothes, while Ma Xiaoxiao, noticing his high fever of 39. 8 degrees Celsius, searched for antipyretics. Yi Dongdong found the medicine, and Ma Xiaoxiao gently fed it to Ou Xiaojian.

Yi Dongdong offered to stay and look after Ou Xiaojian, but Ma Xiaoxiao insisted she should stay, reasoning that Yi Dongdong wouldn't be able to assist Ou Xiaojian to the toilet if needed, and his mother, Hao Pushi, would "chase him all over the street" if he didn't return home. Yi Dongdong jokingly accepted his fate, but Ma Xiaoxiao remained firm.

As Ma Xiaoxiao continued to care for Ou Xiaojian, Yi Dongdong reflected on the day's events, mentioning his hand injury sustained while protecting Ma Xiaoxiao. He inquired about Ou Xiaojian's condition, but Ma Xiaoxiao only knew he was already wet when she found him after her shower. Yi Dongdong then asked Ma Xiaoxiao if Aunt Niu's opposition was the reason she gave up her Peking University recommendation.

Ma Xiaoxiao clarified that she had signed the confirmation because she simply didn't like the designated major. She then asked Yi Dongdong if he would abandon a recommended admission for a preferred major. He admitted he couldn't do it like her but wholeheartedly supported her decision. Ma Xiaoxiao expressed how much more relaxed she felt after talking to him.

Yi Dongdong then realized Ma Xiaoxiao still intended to go to Beijing, which made him anxious about his own chances of getting into a university there. Eventually, Yi Dongdong fell asleep while watching over Ou Xiaojian. Ma Xiaoxiao took it upon herself to cook porridge and fed it to Ou Xiaojian when he awoke.

He complimented her cooking, but when she pressed him about what happened, he deflected, vaguely stating that getting involved in society was "to make life more meaningful." Ma Xiaoxiao challenged his rationale, asking what meaning there was in constant conflict. Ou Xiaojian countered by questioning the meaning of their relentless pursuit of top grades and continuous exams, asserting that ultimately, everyone would "mix with society."

Ma Xiaoxiao then told him that she had given up her Peking University Chinese Literature recommendation. Ou Xiaojian, initially concerned she wouldn't go to Beijing, was reassured when she confirmed her intentions. He encouraged her to choose what truly resonated with her, emphasizing that "as long as you like it, that's the best."

When she admitted she hadn't yet decided on a major, mentioning Zeng Xing's suggestion of architecture, Ou Xiaojian playfully teased her, suggesting she might as well "get involved in society early." He jokingly offered to "cover her." Ma Xiaoxiao then urged him to rest. The following morning, Ou Xiaojian woke a groggy Yi Dongdong, again thanking him for his help.

Yi Dongdong quickly slipped home, narrowly avoiding detection by Hao Pushi, who was already up doing chores and would have been furious about his overnight absence. Hao Pushi noticed his fatigue and jokingly asked if he had been "doing thief things last night." Soon after, Sun Falcon and Liang Xiaobao appeared, dragging a reluctant Yi Dongdong to watch a movie. Sun Falcon, nervous about an upcoming physical test, insisted they needed to relax.

Yi Dongdong protested, saying he had an English text to memorize, but Sun Falcon was adamant. Inside the cinema, police suddenly raided the premises, causing pandemonium. Everyone scrambled to escape. Sun Falcon, seemingly inspired by the movie, dramatically leaped from an upper level. The scene descended into chaos, and Yi Dongdong, alarmed, called out Sun Falcon's name.
