Dear Mayang Street Episode 12 Recap
> Dear Mayang Street Recap
Ma Xiaoxiao found Ou Xiaojian injured, feeling distressed and sad that her persuasion was completely useless. She asked if he was in pain, and Ou Xiaojian simply replied, "Not bad." She pressed him, asking what difficulties he was facing and offering to solve them together. However, Ou Xiaojian remained silent, leaving Ma Xiaoxiao frustrated and worried. She told him that his silence was very concerning.
Unable to get him to open up, Ma Xiaoxiao eventually left, with Ou Xiaojian watching her go, calling out her name softly. That evening, Yi Dongdong joined Ma Xiaoxiao's family for dinner. Ma Xiaoxiao returned home with no appetite, but her spirits lifted when she heard about Ma Dada already filming. Ma Dada excitedly announced that she had signed a contract with a film crew and would start filming soon.
When questioned about the necessary parental signature, she revealed that she had secretly obtained a guarantee from a distant relative, "Aunt Qi's sister's aunt," without telling her parents. Ma Yingjun was confused about this unknown relative, and Aunt Niu quickly grew angry, accusing Ma Dada of nonsense. Enraged by Ma Dada's secret actions, Aunt Niu grabbed a feather duster and began chasing her around the house.
In the commotion, Yi Dongdong was inadvertently caught in the fray, his nose getting swollen. Aunt Niu also criticized Yi Dongdong for constantly getting injured. Ma Xiaoxiao quickly intervened, offering him a hot egg to apply to his nose. Ma Xiaoxiao, holding up Ma Dada's dismal test scores, argued that given her poor grades, acting might be her only viable path, emphasizing that Ma Dada should commit to the choice she made.
With Ma Xiaoxiao and Ma Yingjun's support, Aunt Niu reluctantly agreed to let Ma Dada pursue acting, but stipulated that if she failed, she must return home and focus on her studies. Ma Dada eagerly accepted the condition. Later, Ma Dada confided in Ma Xiaoxiao, expressing her excitement about the acting opportunity. She explained that while her academic performance couldn't compare to Ma Xiaoxiao's, she hoped to discover her own strengths through this different path and treasured the chance.
Ma Xiaoxiao, realizing she hadn't truly understood her sister's aspirations, apologized. Ma Dada acknowledged that her family's concerns stemmed from love, and the sisters shared a heartfelt conversation, recognizing that open communication was key to resolving misunderstandings and truly understanding each other. Later, as Ou Xiaojian collected the newspaper for Grandma Ou, he saw Ma Xiaoxiao passing by, but she pointedly ignored him, still upset.
Soon after, Sun Falcon noticed a distinctive camera belonging to Ou Xiaojian and, curious, asked to borrow it. Ou Xiaojian initially questioned his ability to use it and reminded him about his upcoming college entrance exams, but Sun Falcon confidently stated he had experience and was confident in his sports institute exam results. Ou Xiaojian eventually allowed him to take the camera, cautioning him not to break it.
The next morning, Aunt Niu meticulously packed supplies for Ma Dada and gave Ma Yingjun a long list of instructions for taking care of their daughter and himself. Ma Yingjun, with Ma Dada, arrived at the studio's bus, but Lao Bai, the assistant director, informed him that family members were not permitted to accompany the actors due to studio regulations. Despite Ma Yingjun's deep concern, Lao Bai assured him that Ma Dada would be safely returned.
Once at the set, Ma Dada discovered her role was a female bandit, dressed in beggar's clothing. During the audition, she was accidentally kicked by an extra, leaving her sore and uncomfortable. Nevertheless, the director approved of her performance, giving her a passing mark. Later that day, the friends gathered at Zeng Hao's house for a hot pot dinner to celebrate Sun Falcon's good academic results. Yi Dongdong went to the general store to invite Ou Xiaojian.
Seeing Ou Xiaojian's head injury, Yi Dongdong expressed concern, but Ou Xiaojian brushed it off as a minor injury. When invited to the dinner, Ou Xiaojian hesitated and subtly prompted Da Pang about the time, implying he had business at the repair shop. Da Pang, catching the hint, explained that Ou Xiaojian had prior engagements. Ou Xiaojian apologized, asked Yi Dongdong to congratulate Sun Falcon for him, and declined the invitation.
Yi Dongdong and Da Pang found his behavior somewhat perplexing. Back at Zeng Hao's, Yi Dongdong informed the others that Ou Xiaojian couldn't make it as he was "very busy." Since Ou Xiaojian wasn't coming, Sun Falcon decided to use Ou Xiaojian's camera to take group photos. Despite not having any film, he enthusiastically directed everyone to pose with their cups and corn, making them wait while he "captured the moment," much to their growing hunger.
Ma Xiaoxiao finally interjected, chastising him for teasing them with food, as everyone was starving. The moment she gave the signal to start eating, everyone quickly devoured all the beef in their bowls. News of Ma Dada's acting debut spread quickly through Mayang Street. Neighbors congratulated Aunt Niu, praising Ma Dada for becoming an "actor" and even a "little princess," to which Aunt Niu responded with modest smiles. Meanwhile, Grandma Ou, seeing Ou Xiaojian's head injury, expressed her deep worry.
She didn't want him living a dangerous life that kept her constantly on edge, especially after his father's sudden departure. She pleaded with him to live a stable and peaceful life, to which Ou Xiaojian apologized for causing her concern. As night fell, Ma Yingjun patiently waited by a tree for Ma Dada to finish work. When she finally emerged, her face was smudged with dirt and makeup, and she appeared exhausted, much to the family's dismay and sympathy.
Ma Xiaoxiao lovingly prepared hot water for her sister. Aunt Niu was heartbroken to see Ma Dada's injuries and suggested she quit, but Ma Dada, citing her contract, insisted on seeing it through. Ma Xiaoxiao also checked on her sister's resolve, and Ma Dada affirmed her desire to continue. Lao Bai soon arranged another job for Ma Dada – an advertisement shoot. During this time, Ma Yingjun suddenly fainted and was rushed to the hospital.
While Ma Dada delivered a heartfelt performance in the advertisement, earning praise and her labor fee, her father's health was deteriorating. Ma Yingjun, upon waking, initially believed he was fine and wanted to be discharged, even attempting a split to prove his health, but the doctor advised him to remain for observation. The results revealed that Ma Yingjun had a congenital condition: blood vessels that were narrower than normal, causing insufficient blood supply with age.
His other health indicators were also critical. The doctor explained that while incurable, the condition could be managed by avoiding excitement and overexertion; otherwise, he risked collapsing again. AFèi and his men visited Ou Xiaojian at the general store to thank him for saving face in the previous incident, presenting him with a box of pagers as a gift. Ou Xiaojian instructed Da Pang to sell them discreetly, ensuring Grandma Ou wouldn't find out.
Later, Ou Xiaojian met with Uncle Li, who noticed his injury. Ou Xiaojian urged Uncle Li to arrest AFèi and his gang quickly, expressing concern that he was becoming too deeply entrenched in their world and might inadvertently become their leader if AFèi were removed.
He longed for a normal life, feeling that his undercover persona was becoming too ingrained, and wished to end his dangerous double life as soon as possible because he had made a promise to Ma Xiaoxiao that he couldn't break. Uncle Li assured him he had already applied to his superiors. Regarding the pagers, Ou Xiaojian asked if he should sell them. Uncle Li suggested selling them to identify potential "big fish" among the buyers.
With only thirty days left until the college entrance examination, the school announced a week-long self-study period at home, allowing students to focus on their weak areas based on recent mock exam results. Ma Xiaoxiao was praised by a teacher for her continued diligence, despite having already secured a recommendation to Peking University. Hearing about Ma Yingjun's illness, the teacher expressed concern and offered to visit him.
Ma Xiaoxiao, deeply touched, informed her that her father was expected to be discharged that day. The teacher also noted Ma Xiaoxiao's weight loss, reminding her to balance work and rest. After school, Yi Dongdong offered to help Ma Xiaoxiao carry her stack of test papers, but she insisted on carrying most of them herself. He then proudly declared his ambition to also attend a university in Beijing, inspired by her.
He jokingly called her his role model, often hearing his mother praise her. He also cheekily asked if he could "cadge" meals at her house since she was cooking more now, implying his own cooking was bad. Ma Xiaoxiao, amused, chased after him.
