Following their unauthorized absence from school, Geng Geng and Lu Xinghe were summoned to Director Pan's office. Pan informed them he would not punish them for cutting class, but instead assigned them a task: to photograph and translate for a visiting Japanese student delegation from Sakura Middle School. Geng Geng was to be the photographer, and Lu Xinghe, despite initially denying it, was assigned as the translator, as evidence suggested he had lived in Japan.

Geng Geng was distressed, explaining that her class had a basketball match, and she wanted to photograph it. Director Pan dismissed her concerns, stating she was "led astray by Lu Xinghe’s individualism" and reminded her she was a member of Zhenhua. He offered a compromise: if her class reached the finals, she could photograph. Lu Xinghe advised Geng Geng against arguing with Director Pan, assuring her he had her back.

Before the delegation's arrival, the school was abuzz with excitement for the basketball match. Geng Geng's classmates discussed preparing water for the players, and Yu Huai, confident in his skills, boasted about his past MVP titles and expected popularity. He even asked Geng Geng to photograph him during the game. Geng Geng, however, had to decline when she received Director Pan’s assignment. The Japanese delegation arrived at Zhenhua, warmly welcomed by students and staff.

A student named Yamin from Sakura Middle School delivered a speech emphasizing the long-standing cultural exchanges between China and Japan. Geng Geng, though assigned to the delegation, noticed Yu Huai seemed preoccupied. She faked a stomachache to try and sneak away to the ongoing basketball match but was caught by Director Pan. She learned that Class 5 had won its semi-final. Later, Geng Geng congratulated Yu Huai on his performance, and he thanked her.

He then asked if she would come to their next game. Returning home, Geng Geng was met by her father, who informed her that Miss Qi was moving in. Miss Qi's son, Fanfan, was playing with Geng Geng’s cherished plane toy. Despite Miss Qi's suggestion to put away the toys, Geng Geng’s father encouraged Fanfan to continue playing, stating toys were meant to be played with and wouldn’t break.

Later, Geng Geng discovered her plane was indeed broken and confronted Fanfan, who blamed the adults. Her father dismissed her distress, saying it was "just a toy" and criticized her for making a scene in front of the new family. Overwhelmed, Geng Geng called her biological mother, recounting how the plane was a precious 10th birthday gift from her parents.

Her mother advised her to focus on her studies and manage her relationship with her new family, promising to get her another gift in the future. Geng Geng later realized that her first batch of photos for the Japanese delegation was completely unusable due to incorrect camera settings. Director Pan had emphasized the importance of these photos for school publications and city newspapers, threatening severe punishment if they were unsatisfactory.

Desperate, Geng Geng sought help from Yu Huai, showing him the blurry photos, but he jokingly teased her about her lack of photographic talent. During class, Yu Huai was reprimanded by a teacher for drawing basketball strategies. He and Geng Geng left the classroom together. Later, during a basketball game, Yu Huai appeared agitated and aggressive, a tension Geng Geng and a friend noted.

Determined to watch Yu Huai play in the finals, Geng Geng, during Director Pan's speech to the Japanese delegation, seized an opportunity. As Pan spoke about Zhenhua's excellent educational methods and spirit, Geng Geng subtly suggested to Lu Xinghe that the delegation might enjoy watching the basketball finals to "feel the diligence and progress" of Zhenhua students. Lu Xinghe, understanding her intention, gave a "creative translation" to the Japanese students, who enthusiastically agreed to attend the game.

Lu Xinghe then relayed their excitement to Director Pan, using Pan's own school motto, which flattered Pan into permitting everyone to go to the basketball court. At the finals, Geng Geng cheered for Yu Huai, but during the match, Yu Huai sustained an injury. Geng Geng and a friend accompanied him to the infirmary, only to find it empty. Yu Huai later downplayed his injury, saying he was used to spraining his ankle.

Geng Geng promised to find a way to help him, and he thanked her. As evening fell, Geng Geng left school and saw a woman burning paper offerings outside the gate. Jiang Niannian appeared and explained that the woman was the mother of a student who had committed suicide years ago during an exam, and she came to mourn her child annually before exams.

This somber scene led to a discussion among students about the looming mid-term exams and the potential consequences, including students being swapped back to different classes if they failed. Her friend Beta offered to help Geng Geng, but warned of the risk of students being swapped back to different classes if their mid-term exam results were poor, urging Geng Geng to "get going."
