Unique Lady Season 3 Episode 5 Recap
> Unique Lady Season 3 Recap
Lin Luojing found Jiang Xuanyu drinking alone and expressed her concern, asking why he hadn't come to the inn after his business trip. Noticing his strained smile, she urged him to share his troubles, assuring him it would help. Jiang Xuanyu confessed that his primary reason for being in Nan Yan, beyond business, was to assist Zhong Wumei in investigating the corrupt dealings of Lin Fei Yu, the Grand Chancellor.
Jiang Xuanyu recounted that he had discovered a crucial lead regarding Lin Fei Yu's conspiracy. When he arrived at the Tang Mansion, he hesitated to enter, fearing its connection to the conspiracy. As he was about to leave, Tang Father, pursued by men in black, stumbled out and collapsed into Jiang Xuanyu's arms. The assailants fled upon seeing Jiang Xuanyu. Tang Father, gravely wounded, confessed his involvement with Lin Fei Yu and expressed his regret for his actions.
With his dying breath, he implored Jiang Xuanyu to protect Tang Meng, asking him to never reveal his dark past to her, ensuring she remembers him as a loving father. Jiang Xuanyu, devastated, felt immense guilt, believing he could have saved Tang Father if he had acted sooner. Lin Luojing consoled him, advising him to respect Tang Father's last wish by telling Tang Meng that her father died of illness and by committing to caring for her.
Jiang Xuanyu worried it might be too late to make amends for his past indifference towards Tang Meng, but Lin Luojing assured him that for someone who truly loves him, it's never too late to show care and affection. She offered to inform Zhong Wumei about these developments so Jiang Xuanyu could attend to Tang Meng.
Lin Luojing reflected on the XR system, realizing she had grown to care for everyone in this world, making the prospect of eventually leaving difficult. A maid frantically informed Lin Luojing that Zhong Wumei had fainted. Lin Luojing rushed to his side, distraught, blaming herself for his condition, believing it was due to his unhealed Qing Flower Poison and their tiring journey. However, she quickly realized he was only pretending.
Annoyed, she scolded him for faking an illness after he had previously called other women's names while genuinely ill. Zhong Wumei explained that he resorted to this trick because he felt guilty for bringing her to Nan Yan without her full consent, upsetting her, and for her misunderstanding about Xiaoyu; he simply didn't know how else to gain her attention or resolve their issues. Though initially skeptical, Lin Luojing eventually forgave him, warning him not to repeat such behavior.
Zhong Wumei then promised her a special gift that night, asking her to call him "Husband," which delighted him immensely. After Lin Luojing informed Zhong Wumei about Jiang Xuanyu's situation, she directly asked Zhong Wumei if he came to Nan Yan for an investigation rather than elopement. Zhong Wumei admitted that he indeed came to investigate Lin Fei Yu's remaining forces and his mysterious disappearance from the death cell.
He didn't tell her earlier because he didn't want her to worry. Lin Luojing emphasized that as his partner, she doesn't want to be kept in the dark or feel like a burden. Zhong Wumei reassured her she is the most important person to him. Reflecting on the uncertainty of life and his brother's illness, Zhong Wumei declares his unwavering belief that they must stay together.
He proposes a formal wedding, explaining that while he initially hoped to earn favor with the Emperor by solving the Nan Yan situation to legitimize their relationship, he would have eloped with her for a wedding if the investigation failed, ensuring they could be together openly. He vows eternal devotion, and Lin Luojing reciprocates his love. Later that night, Zhong Wumei awakens from a nightmare where Lin Luojing left him.
He frantically searches for her and finds her by candlelight, having prepared a surprise for Dragon Boat Festival to make their first official holiday together memorable, given life's uncertainties. Overwhelmed by fear of losing her again, Zhong Wumei embraces her, telling her her presence is the greatest happiness and urging her never to disappear on him again. She promises to always stay by his side.
Wen Ru Yu, accompanied by her maid Shan, burst into Zhong Wumei and Lin Luojing's quarters. Zhong Wumei, annoyed, questioned her presence, advising her to tour Nan Yan with Shan while he attended to important matters. Defying his dismissive attitude, Wen Ru Yu presented a calm and reasonable front.
She acknowledged their difficult situation and, recognizing her role as a royal, offered to move out of the Prince’s Mansion and even accept Lin Luojing as a co-wife if Zhong Wumei returned to Sheng Jing. Just then, Zhong Wumei's lingering Qing Flower Poison flared up, causing him to suffer a sudden pain.
Zhang Ji clarified that Zhong Wumei’s earlier faint had not been entirely fake; the poison's residue was still affecting him, and he had only pretended to be fully recovered to avoid worrying Lin Luojing. Seeing Zhong Wumei’s weakened state, Lin Luojing decided they must return to Sheng Jing for his health, agreeing to Wen Ru Yu’s terms. Wen Ru Yu, secretly pleased, immediately went to prepare for their journey.
It was later revealed that this strategy was orchestrated by her maid, Shan. Shan had advised Wen Ru Yu that the only way to break the deadlock and compel Zhong Wumei to return was for her to personally retrieve him. This act would force Zhong Wumei to address the alliance between Bei Yu and Sheng Jing, and the Emperor would have difficulty shielding him once the Princess herself had confronted him.
Despite Wen Ru Yu's initial reluctance and humiliation at humbling herself, Shan convinced her that this was the path to eventually winning Zhong Wumei's heart and ensuring he treated her well, even if Lin Luojing remained. After consoling Tang Meng who grieved her father's passing, Jiang Xuanyu vowed to stay by her side always, promising to make amends and cherish her for life. He then sent a letter to Zhong Wumei.
In the letter, Jiang Xuanyu reported that he had completed his investigation and enclosed a list of Lin Fei Yu's trusted followers, urging him to handle it carefully. He further explained that his experiences in Nan Yan had made him realize the unpredictable nature of life, prompting his early return to Sheng Jing to manage the aftermath of Lin Fei Yu's conspiracy.
On their long journey back to Sheng Jing, Lin Luojing, Zhong Wumei, Zhang Ji, and their companions lightened the mood by playing a card game. Lin Luojing, a self-proclaimed "expert card player" from her hometown, consistently won, much to the frustration of Zhong Wumei and Zhang Ji, whose faces were soon covered in paper strips.
Zhong Wumei, annoyed by his losses, declared he wouldn't play anymore, leading to playful banter with Lin Luojing, who teased him for being a "tsundere" and a "petty man." Meanwhile, Liu Xiuwen, worried about Lin Luojing's safety from Lin Fei Yu's faction, discreetly followed their carriage. As they passed through a forest, men in black attacked them.
Liu Xiuwen single-handedly fended off the assassins, fighting ferociously and nearly sacrificing himself, until Yi Yi arrived and helped him eliminate the remaining attackers. After the ambush, Yi Yi confronted Liu Xiuwen, observing that he still couldn't let go of Lin Luojing, evident by his swift action to protect her from Lin Fei Yu's men.
She reminded him that he once asked Lin Luojing to choose between him and Zhong Wumei, and now she posed the same question to him: who would he choose if she and Lin Luojing were at odds? Liu Xiuwen responded that while Yi Yi had saved his life fifteen years ago, it was Lin Luojing who, after all those years of merely existing, made him feel truly alive for the first time.
Yi Yi, hurt, insisted she could do just as much for him. Liu Xiuwen then stated that this was the last time he would prioritize Lin Luojing over other matters, acknowledging that sometimes, self-delusion brought a strange form of contentment. He pondered why he always lost his composure and yielded when Lin Luojing was involved.
Upon their return to the Prince's Mansion, Wen Ru Yu honored her promise and moved out, restoring a sense of peace to Lin Luojing's daily life, reminiscent of her early days in the household. Lin Luojing teased her maid, Xi Que, about Zhang Ji, remarking on how Zhang Ji now seemed much happier since he wouldn't have to worry about Zhong Wumei as much.
Later, Lin Luojing tried to give Zhong Wumei his medicine, but he childishly complained about its bitterness and refused to drink it, reminding her how easy it was to drink when she wasn't around to share his sorrow. Lin Luojing, amused, called him a "tsundere" for his sudden coyness, and he playfully claimed to have learned it from her.
Seeing he wouldn't budge, Lin Luojing devised a clever solution: she quickly donned a doctor's outfit for a "cosplay" and returned, posing as the Immortal Doctor's apprentice. She sternly warned Zhong Wumei that if he didn't take his medicine, he might never see his beloved consort again, finally convincing him to comply.
