Thousand Years For You Episode 5 Recap
> Thousand Years For You Recap
Following the wedding ceremony, Lu Yan is told that tradition dictates he must serve tea to the "main husband"—a rooster named Big Red. Lu Yan finds the notion laughable. A troublemaker from another stronghold seizes the opportunity to mock him, insisting that the rules must be followed. Annoyed, Yu Dengdeng steps in to defend Lu Yan, declaring the ritual cancelled.
She warns that she can distinguish true friends from those looking to cause trouble and that she will settle scores later. The agitator tries to protest further, but his voice suddenly fails him, a result of Lu Yan's subtle and unseen intervention. To disperse the crowd, Dengdeng then announces it is time for a group photograph. As the photographer sets up his large camera, a device Lu Yan has never seen before, Dengdeng teases him.
She playfully warns him not to blink, lest the camera steals his soul, and tells him to hide behind her if he's scared. Unfazed, Lu Yan reassures her that as long as he is there, no one will harm her. Touched by his words, Dengdeng happily poses for the picture with him. At the wedding banquet, Lu Yan remains cold and silent at the main table, drawing gossip from the other guests.
To save face and protect him, Yu Dengdeng begins drinking heavily on his behalf, toasting everyone with gusto. A'xin quietly warns Lu Yan that if Dengdeng becomes too intoxicated, it could harm the spirit residing within her. Taking this to heart, Lu Yan intervenes when another toast is offered. He takes the bowl of wine meant for Dengdeng and drinks it himself.
When another guest tries to refill the bowl, Lu Yan uses his power to shatter it, putting an end to the drinking for the night. The boisterous crowd then decides it's time to escort the newlyweds to their bridal chamber. While the festivities were underway, Gu Beixi, who had been locked in a woodshed by Lu Yan, manages to get a dog to carry his belt to his men. Once freed, he rushes to find Yu Dengdeng's bridal chamber.
Inside the room, with guests still lingering outside to eavesdrop, Yu Dengdeng begins shaking the bed to create the illusion of a wedding night in progress. She explains to a bewildered Lu Yan that she must put on a show, otherwise people will look down on her as a leader, and by extension, look down on Qingquan Stronghold, which would invite bullying and oppression.
Moved by her sense of responsibility, Lu Yan takes over the task of shaking the bed until the crowd outside finally disperses. In the quiet that follows, he asks Dengdeng if she has any wishes. She reminisces about her last memory of her mother, making a snowman during a rare heavy snow, and wishes she could see her mother's face just one more time. Exhausted and drunk, she soon passes out.
The peace is shattered when a panic erupts in the stronghold. Several of the visiting stronghold leaders have mysteriously aged into immobile, scarecrow-like figures, though they are still breathing. The remaining guests immediately accuse Yu Dengdeng of poisoning them in a plot to take over their territories.
She vehemently denies the accusation and seals all exits to the stronghold to investigate and prevent the news from spreading, arguing it would cause chaos in the other strongholds if they were left leaderless. As the accusations fly, the afflicted men suddenly transform into violent, monstrous creatures and begin to attack. Lu Yan springs into action, using his fighting skills to protect Dengdeng.
Gu Beixi arrives in the middle of the chaos, and Lu Yan instructs him to get Dengdeng to safety, claiming he has his own "magic" to handle the monsters. Once the area is cleared of bystanders, Lu Yan unleashes his true power, uprooting a massive tree with his bare hands and smashing it down upon the creatures to subdue them. The display of supernatural strength leaves everyone stunned.
Lv Er, Dengdeng's second-in-command, drops to his knees, recognizing Lu Yan as a legendary spirit-hunter. The other witnesses quickly follow suit, begging Lu Yan to save them. Amidst the chaos, the surviving guests begin to argue and blame each other. Gu Beixi steps in, forcefully declaring that Qingquan Stronghold is now under his protection and warns anyone against harming Yu Dengdeng. Later, in private with his subordinate, Gu Beixi expresses his doubts.
He recounts how Lu Yan dodged a bullet at point-blank range and effortlessly trapped him in the woodshed. He deduces that someone with such immense power is no ordinary spirit-hunter and could have escaped the stronghold at any time. He concludes that Lu Yan's only reason for staying must be Yu Dengdeng herself. Determined to get Lu Yan's help, Dengdeng approaches him with an offering of rare and expensive foods, fawning over him and flattering his abilities.
Lu Yan is unmoved, coolly suggesting that the other strongholds being leaderless is actually advantageous for her. Infuriated by his callousness, Dengdeng argues that she cannot ignore the suffering of others, regardless of their allegiance. Declaring that she will hunt the source of the monsters herself if he won't help, she turns to leave. Just as she reaches the door, Lu Yan stops her.
He agrees to accompany her down the mountain to find the creature responsible, but on one condition: she must first take off her clothes. Shocked and embarrassed, Dengdeng assumes he is making a sexual demand but resolves to go through with it for the sake of her people. As she fumbles with the complex buttons of her dress, Lu Yan steps forward to assist. " There's a problem with the clothes," he says.
