Lv Er confronted Lu Yan, demanding to know his true identity. Lu Yan, however, answered without a single flaw, stating he was the owner of Xin's Sedan Chair Company at No. 2, Qingliu Lane, and had just returned from his hometown of Chuan County, whose current magistrate was Li Fengyue.

He mentioned his parents had died young, and he had an elder brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister, choosing to settle there as he was unburdened by family ties. Lv Er then apologized for Yu Dengdeng's previous reckless actions, explaining that Dengdeng had grown up without a mother and could be a bit rough. Lu Yan assured him he harbored no ill will.

Lv Er became stern, emphasizing Dengdeng's simple and faithful nature, and warned Lu Yan that if he dared to harm her, he would never let him go. After Lu Yan departed, Lv Er was visibly shaken by his own interaction. He later expressed his deep concerns to Dengdeng, calling Lu Yan too complicated and dangerous for her to marry hastily. Dengdeng dismissed his fears, reminding him that he himself had initially urged her to marry Lu Yan.

She confidently stated her investigations confirmed Lu Yan was the sedan company owner, dismissing Lv Er's ignorance about the Lu family in Chuan County. Dengdeng then unabashedly declared her intentions to marry Lu Yan for his money, good looks, and physical appeal, considering him their "cash cow." Lv Er cautioned her against being swayed by beauty, citing historical examples of emperors who fell due to it.

Dengdeng playfully interpreted this as high expectations for her, promising to fulfill them, leaving Lv Er to wonder why she was so infatuated. Meanwhile, Daqian, feeling unfairly treated by Yu Dengdeng for being assigned night patrol, grumbled to himself while drinking under the moonlight, vowing to prove his worth. Xin, identifying himself as Lu Yan's attendant, approached Daqian, offering to help with his patrol.

Xin flattered Daqian and inquired about unusual stories, especially since he heard the old Chief was a spirit-hunter. Daqian, loosened by alcohol, revealed that when Yu Dengdeng was less than three years old, she had suffered a strange illness and seemed to die. Her grandfather, the old Chief, had desperately prayed for her, and the very next day, he discovered a mysterious, luminous bird with golden feathers by a large mountain lake.

It was said that the bird exuded spiritual energy and would soon be able to speak. The old Chief then stewed the bird and gave the broth to Dengdeng, who immediately recovered, becoming exceptionally strong and, as Daqian added, prone to bullying others. Xin commented on their actions, knowing the bird was extraordinary yet still consuming it. Overhearing this, Lu Yan was consumed by a powerful rage. A furious gale erupted, and dark clouds gathered, frightening Daqian away.

Xin quickly intervened, calming Lu Yan and explaining that if Yun Xi's spirit was still intact, it could be extracted to restore her. He reasoned that ordinary humans could not truly absorb or integrate a spirit, so their master's essence must remain. Lu Yan agreed, recognizing that if the spirit had not dispersed, there was still a chance to retrieve it. He decided to use his energy core to probe Dengdeng again, confident it would resonate with Yun Xi's spirit.

His immediate goal was to extract the spirit while Yu Dengdeng was still alive. Lu Yan instructed Xin to go down the mountain ahead of time to make preparations, as a forced extraction within the stronghold could cause too much unwanted commotion. He planned to lure Dengdeng out of the stronghold the next day. Later that night, with Dengdeng asleep, Xin confirmed the situation was favorable and stood guard outside while Lu Yan entered her room to probe her spirit.

Dengdeng, however, suddenly awoke and questioned his presence. She playfully accused him of having ulterior motives, such as attempting to "murder his wife" or something more intimate. Lu Yan tried to dismiss her, but Dengdeng, asserting her dominance, pinned him down on the bed and playfully attempted to kiss him, observing his daytime seriousness contrasted with his nocturnal intrusion.

Before she could, Xin appeared, proclaiming that it wasn't time to kill her and that Lu Yan belonged to his master, before swiftly stunning Dengdeng. As Dengdeng collapsed onto Lu Yan, he was finally able to clearly sense Yun Xi's spirit within her, confirming it was still intact. Xin expressed relief, realizing that with the spirit as their foundation, there was hope for their master's re-formation.

Although Xin suggested extracting the spirit immediately, Lu Yan explained that Yun Xi's spirit was fully integrated with Dengdeng's body, requiring a forceful extraction. He reaffirmed his plan to perform the extraction at dusk the following day in a secluded area, reiterating his previous instructions for Xin to prepare for the procedure down the mountain. The next morning, Yu Dengdeng awoke with a stiff neck, attributing it to a strange dream, though Dahai suggested it was from drawing Lu Yan.

Dahai mocked her drawing, but Dengdeng proudly corrected him, stating it was "Aunt Lu." Dahai questioned her affection for "Aunt Lu," prompting Dengdeng to boast that he had visited her room the previous night, sneaked onto her bed, and they had a passionate "fight," ending with her pinning him down. However, she then comically admitted she had fallen asleep before anything more could happen, much to Dahai's disappointment.

Shortly after, Lu Yan arrived, asking why wedding preparations hadn't begun for their ceremony in two days. Dengdeng, trying to save face despite being short on funds from distributing the sedan company's money, initially feigned a generous refusal of Lu Yan's offer of financial help. When Lu Yan subtly suggested her lack of action implied the wedding wasn't important, Dengdeng quickly changed her tune, declaring it was indeed worth it and immediately set off to buy new clothes and supplies.

During their shopping trip, Lu Yan bought numerous expensive decorative items. Dengdeng, concerned about the mounting costs, secretly instructed Dahai to curb Lu Yan's spending. When Lu Yan seemingly overheard, she quickly put on a show of lavish generosity, proclaiming that she would be responsible for "borrowing money to support the family" while he was "responsible for being beautiful," allowing him to buy whatever he pleased.

She then went to the photo studio to personally deliver a wedding invitation to Mr. Ya. There, Dengdeng respectfully greeted Mr. Ya, reminding him of her childhood visits with her father and requesting he continue to call her Dengdeng, not "Miss Yu." Mr. Ya congratulated her. Dengdeng confirmed her father hadn't returned but expected him to make it for the wedding. She then specifically asked Mr. Ya to attend with his camera to capture her wedding photos.

On their return journey, Yu Dengdeng complained about the bumpy ride in her sedan and asked to switch with Lu Yan, a move orchestrated by him. As they entered a bamboo forest, a thick fog descended, causing the rest of the convoy to go in circles and lose their way due to a spell Xin had arranged. Dengdeng, disoriented and alone in the fog, called out for Dahai.

Lu Yan appeared and proceeded with his attempt to extract Yun Xi's spirit. However, the spirit immediately dispersed upon extraction, shocking Lu Yan, who hastily gathered the scattered fragments and returned them to Dengdeng's body. Dengdeng awoke with a sharp pain in her heart but was unaware of the extraction attempt. She requested Lu Yan carry her, but he insisted she walk herself. Joking nervously about wild beasts, Dengdeng's words proved prophetic as menacing wild men suddenly surrounded them.

Lu Yan quickly warned her that her dagger was useless against these non-human attackers. Just as he prepared to fight, a gunshot rang out and the wild men collapsed. Meanwhile, Gu Beixi and his subordinate, hiding nearby, observed the scene. The subordinate noted the unexpected sedan switch but confirmed that the hired "mister" was right about the wild men's ferocity.

Though enraged at Dengdeng being put in harm's way, Gu Beixi was urged by his subordinate to retreat before their involvement was discovered. Believing the threat was neutralized, they departed. However, the wild men unexpectedly reanimated and renewed their attack. Dengdeng, without hesitation, shielded Lu Yan and was bitten, falling unconscious. Lu Yan swiftly subdued the wild men, realizing that other Spirit Clan members were involved in the attack.

Elsewhere, the remaining Qingquan Stronghold members were also attacked by the wild men, but Xin arrived in time to repel them. Back at the stronghold, despite her own bite wound, Dengdeng prioritized caring for Dahai, who had been injured. Realizing the spirit extraction had failed, Xin consulted ancient texts and discovered a "Spirit-hunter Manual" written by Yu Houdao, possibly an ancestor of Yu Dengdeng.

The manual explained that 500 years ago, a spirit-hunter had accidentally swallowed a Spirit Clan spirit, causing immense anger. The clan forcibly extracted it, but it scattered due to the thinning spiritual energy of the world. Spirit Clan spirits, being of "supreme Yin" energy, were fragile; removing them normally was akin to protecting a candle flame from a strong wind.

The only method for successful extraction was during a full moon night, utilizing a "spirit bone" and an ancient spirit-extraction formation drawn with the bone ashes of ancient Spirit Clan members. This meant that Yu Dengdeng's life had to be protected until the full moon, as the spirit would disperse if her body died. Xin worried about finding such ancient spirit clan bone ashes. Lu Yan then revealed that the ancestral temple of the Yu family housed Ying Dragon Bones.

Xin questioned if the ancestral temple's powerful barrier was created by these bones and whether Lu Yan could bypass it. Lu Yan confirmed the barrier was indeed powered by Ying Dragon Bone energy, too strong to force without alerting others, which he wished to avoid. Soon after, Yu Dengdeng entered Lu Yan's room without knocking, playfully stating there was no need to knock in her own home.

She offered to give him a massage after his battle with the wild men, but he declined. She then presented him with handmade glutinous rice cakes, claiming they were his favorite, recalling how he had "gulped them down" previously. Lu Yan denied this, but Dengdeng insisted, admitting she made them herself after Li's shop ran out. He reluctantly tasted them, offering a noncommittal "not bad." Dengdeng teasingly declared that from now on, "not bad" would count as "I like it."

She then boldly asked if he liked "her". Lu Yan deflected, asking if that was her only reason for visiting. Dengdeng clarified she wanted to thank him for saving her life, dismissing his attempts to credit the hunter. She emphasized their bond as a couple who had faced life and death together, admitting she was captivated by his bravery. Lu Yan, in turn, thanked her for protecting him first. Dengdeng pledged her unwavering support.

Seizing the opportunity, Lu Yan inquired about the secrets and formidable barrier of the Yu family ancestral temple. Dengdeng claimed there were no secrets and that she had found nothing unusual during her many visits. When Lu Yan asked to be taken inside, Dengdeng explained that the ancestral temple was only accessible to Yu family members during important festivals for ancestor worship, with the next opportunity being the Mid-autumn Festival.

However, she then added that once they were married the next day, he would become a Yu family member, and she could take him to pay respects to the ancestors the following morning.
