Lu Yan, possessing exceptional senses, overheard Bai Shiqi and Gu Beixi's discussion about Chief Bai's plan to execute the Spirit Clan at the execution ground that very day. He immediately set off to investigate the situation, instructing Xin to remain behind and look after Dengdeng and the others. Moments later, Gu Beixi arrived, not realizing Lu Yan had already departed.

Upon learning from Xin that Lu Yan was on his way to the execution ground, Gu Beixi expressed frustration, accusing Lu Yan of attempting to claim all the credit. Gu Beixi then tried to leave to go to the execution ground himself, but Dengdeng, noticing his hasty departure and flustered demeanor, intercepted him. She pressed him for answers, knowing he was concealing something.

When Gu Beixi remained evasive, Dengdeng questioned Xin, who finally disclosed that Bai Shiqi had sent word about the execution and Lu Yan had gone to intervene. Angered that Lu Yan had gone alone, Dengdeng declared that as Lu Yan's person, she should be there too. Gu Beixi attempted to convince her to stay and care for her father, but Dengdeng refused, asserting her inability to stand by while the Spirit Clan faced danger.

She then commanded her people to arm themselves and head for the execution ground. As Dengdeng prepared to leave, Lv Er informed her that Paralyzed Yu wished to speak with her. Paralyzed Yu, having heard of her intention to break into the execution ground, told her he would not stop her this time. He confessed his regret for failing to save her mother in the past and urged Dengdeng to save Lu Yan so she wouldn't live with similar regrets.

Dengdeng promised to return safely and, in turn, asked her father to hold on. At the execution ground, the captured Spirit Clan members desperately pleaded for their lives. Despite their pleas, Chief Bai ordered the execution to proceed. Just as the police prepared to fire, Lu Yan appeared, swiftly cutting the chains binding the Spirit Clan members and urging them to flee. Enraged, Chief Bai denounced Lu Yan as a monster and ordered his officers to open fire.

Several Spirit Clan members were hit and fell. To shield them, Lu Yan quickly conjured a protective energy barrier. Witnessing Lu Yan's formidable power, Chief Bai escalated the assault, demanding heavy weapons and maximum firepower to eliminate them all. Despite the relentless gunfire directed at his barrier, Lu Yan maintained his composure. However, a new crisis emerged as the Spirit Clan members within his protection inexplicably turned violent, attacking each other.

Chief Bai, observing this internal chaos, intensified his assault on the barrier, even deploying cannons. Recognizing the immediate threat, Lu Yan shifted his focus to neutralizing the attacking police. The police officer, revealed to be under the control of the King of Worm, confronted Lu Yan, questioning if killing him would truly free the Spirit Clan from the spirit worms.

He then revealed the grim truth: the only way to remove the spirit worms was for Lu Yan to release all of his energy, effectively sacrificing himself. The King of Worm then unleashed a potent toxin, further driving the Spirit Clan into a murderous frenzy against one another. Overcome with grief and a profound sense of sacrifice, Lu Yan looked towards the approaching Dengdeng and tearfully apologized.

He then made his difficult choice, raising his hands to cast a spell that encased the King of Worm within the barrier. At this critical moment, Dengdeng, Gu Beixi, and their group, having used a diversionary tactic to breach the city's defenses, finally stormed into the execution ground. Lu Yan poured all his strength into the spell to defeat the King of Worm, ignoring the alarming changes within his own Energy Core.

In his heart, he offered an apology to Dengdeng, regretting that he would break his promise to grow old with her. A brilliant light erupted, and the barrier vanished. Lu Yan, utterly drained and weak, collapsed. Dengdeng was the first to react, rushing to his side, calling his name in anguish. She cradled him, chiding him for acting alone, asserting that he was hers and could not die without her permission.

Lu Yan, barely conscious, asked her to promise to live well, but Dengdeng vehemently refused. As Lu Yan's life force faded, Dengdeng and Xin desperately tried to infuse him with their energy, but their efforts were in vain. Dengdeng gently laid him down, pressing her face against his chest, pleading with him to awaken.

She invoked the Energy Core within him, declaring that if it had truly belonged to her three thousand years ago, she implored it to help Lu Yan now. She recounted his long wait for her and their unfulfilled dreams, begging for help so they could have children and a life together. Her impassioned plea awakened Yun Xi's energy. Dengdeng, enveloped in a golden light and growing golden wings, embraced Lu Yan. Her abundant energy revitalized him, and he finally awoke.

The awakened Spirit Clan members, recognizing Dengdeng as the Saintess, immediately knelt in reverence. Everyone celebrated Lu Yan's recovery and the Saintess's return, oblivious that the King of Worm's influence was not entirely vanquished. Back at the dilapidated temple, Dengdeng and Lu Yan found the last concubine and other Spirit Clan members had fully regained their human forms, and Paralyzed Yu was completely recovered and enjoying a hearty meal.

The Spirit Clan members gratefully acknowledged Dengdeng as the Saintess and thanked General Yan for slaying the King of Worm and granting them a new life. Dengdeng advised them to leave Yingdu City as soon as possible, offering them refuge in Qingquan Town or her own village, which they happily accepted. Paralyzed Yu expressed his gratitude to Lu Yan, remarking on his impressive actions that day. Dengdeng then playfully exaggerated Lu Yan's heroism to everyone.

When Lu Yan mentioned he'd recover in a few days, Dengdeng playfully insisted on personally overseeing his recovery, suggesting it would take at least a month, then extending it to years, even a lifetime, proclaiming he couldn't leave her anyway. The next day, she decided they should leave the shabby temple to find a better place for Lu Yan to recuperate. Later, Bai Shiqi's maid, Cuizhu, arrived to summon Gu Beixi.

Bai Shiqi, meeting with him, thanked him for his concern and information, while he, in turn, acknowledged her crucial warning. He apologized for the trouble her family might face due to their actions, but Bai Shiqi reassured him her family would be fine, cautioning him and his companions about the consequences of assaulting the police and freeing the Spirit Clan, and urging them to leave Yingdu immediately.

Bai Shiqi confessed she was there to say goodbye, understanding that his heart lay elsewhere. She asked him to take care of himself, to recover, and to look after Dengdeng, imploring him not to forget her as they were now "friends of life and death." Gu Beixi assured her he would not forget her, expressing how his perception of her had changed, seeing her as courageous and different from other girls.

He promised to invite her to his mountain village once the current crisis passed, describing a life of drinking and feasting that was more enjoyable than city life. Bai Shiqi made him promise to uphold his word. Before leaving, they shared a farewell hug, with Bai Shiqi reminding him, "Chieftain Gu, you promised to take me to drink and eat meat. Don't break your promise." That night, a heartbroken Gu Beixi, heavily intoxicated, confessed his deep love for Dengdeng.

However, he acknowledged her profound affection for Lu Yan, an intensity he had never witnessed before. He decided to let go of his feelings for her, pouring out a drink as a symbolic farewell to his unrequited love. He resolved to maintain a distance from Dengdeng from that day forward, whether as a brother or a stranger, but vowed to continue protecting her, as it had become an ingrained habit.
